[Termes IGN] saillanceRésumé : (auteur) We present an unsupervised 3D deep learning framework based on a ubiquitously true proposition named by us view-object consistency as it states that a 3D object and its projected 2D views always belong to the same object class. To validate its effectiveness, we design a multi-view CNN instantiating it for salient view selection and interest point detection of 3D objects, which quintessentially cannot be handled by supervised learning due to the difficulty of collecting sufficient and consistent training data. Our unsupervised multi-view CNN, namely UMVCNN, branches off two channels which encode the knowledge within each 2D view and the 3D object respectively and also exploits both intra-view and inter-view knowledge of the object. It ends with a new loss layer which formulates the view-object consistency by impelling the two channels to generate consistent classification outcomes. The UMVCNN is then integrated with a global distinction adjustment scheme to incorporate global cues into salient view selection. We evaluate our method for salient view section both qualitatively and quantitatively, demonstrating its superiority over several state-of-the-art methods. In addition, we showcase that our method can be used to select salient views of 3D scenes containing multiple objects. We also develop a method based on the UMVCNN for 3D interest point detection and conduct comparative evaluations on a publicly available benchmark, which shows that the UMVCNN is amenable to different 3D shape understanding tasks. [Termes IGN] réseau neuronal de graphesRésumé : (auteur) Spectral unmixing is an effective tool to mine information at the subpixel level from complex hyperspectral images. To consider the spatially correlated materials distributions in the scene, many algorithms unmix the data in a spatial–spectral fashion; however, existing models are usually unable to model spectral variability simultaneously. In this article, we present a variational autoencoder-based deep generative model for spatial–spectral unmixing (DGMSSU) with endmember variability, by linking the generated endmembers to the probability distributions of endmember bundles extracted from the hyperspectral imagery via discriminators. Besides the convolutional autoencoder-like architecture that can only model the spatial information within the regular patch inputs, DGMSSU is able to alternatively choose graph convolutional networks or self-attention mechanism modules to handle the irregular but more flexible data—superpixel. Experimental results on a simulated dataset, as well as two well-known real hyperspectral images, show the superiority of our proposed approach in comparison with other state-of-the-art spatial–spectral unmixing methods. Compared to the conventional unmixing methods that consider the endmember variability, our proposed model generates more accurate endmembers on each subimage by the adversarial training process. [Termes IGN] site archéologiqueRésumé : (auteur) Machine Learning-based workflows are being progressively used for the automatic detection of archaeological objects (intended as below-surface sites) in remote sensing data. Despite promising results in the detection phase, there is still a lack of a standard set of measures to evaluate the performance of object detection methods, since buried archaeological sites often have distinctive shapes that set them aside from other types of objects included in mainstream remote sensing datasets (e.g., Dataset of Object deTection in Aerial images, DOTA). Additionally, archaeological research relies heavily on geospatial information when validating the output of an object detection procedure, a type of information that is not normally considered in regular machine learning validation pipelines. This paper tackles these shortcomings by introducing two novel automatic evaluation measures, namely ‘centroid-based’ and ‘pixel-based’, designed to encode the salient aspects of the archaeologists’ thinking process. To test their usability, an experiment with different object detection deep neural networks was conducted on a LiDAR dataset. The experimental results show that these two automatic measures closely resemble the semi-automatic one currently used by archaeologists and therefore can be adopted as fully automatic evaluation measures in archaeological remote sensing detection. Adoption will facilitate cross-study comparisons and close collaboration between machine learning and archaeological researchers, which in turn will encourage the development of novel human-centred archaeological object detection tools. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) Two months after the hurricanes Irma and Maria hit Barbuda, the construction of a new international airport led to accusations of degrading the Codrington Lagoon National Park and contravening the conventions of the Ramsar Program. Scientists have analyzed the aftermath with respect to historical legacies, disaster capitalism, manifestation of climate injustices and green gentrification. The main objective of this study was to quantify and allocate land use and land cover change (LULCC) in Barbuda before and after the 2017 Hurricane disasters. Remote sensing data and volunteered geographic information were analyzed to detect the potential changes in natural LULC so that human activities and the emergence of artificial surfaces could be detected. Human-induced LULCC occurred at different sites on the island, with decreased activities in Codrington, but increased and continued activities at Coco and Palmetto Points. With an accuracy of 97.1 %, we estimated a total increase of vegetated areas by 6.56 km2, and a simultaneous slight increase in roads and buildings with a total length of 249.67 km and a total area of 1.43 km2. The vegetation condition itself depict a steady decrease since 2017. New hotspots of human activity emerged on the island in the Codrington Lagoon National Park. Based on forecast precipitation, topography, and pipe networks, flood simulations can provide early warnings for areas and buildings at risk of flooding. Basement windows, doors, and underground garage entrances are common places where floodwater can flow into a building. Some buildings have been prepared or designed considering the threat of flooding, but others have not. Therefore, knowing the heights of these facade openings helps to identify places that are more susceptible to water ingress. However, such data is not yet readily available in most cities. Traditional surveying of the desired targets may be used, but this is a very time-consuming and laborious process. Instead, mobile mapping using LiDAR (light detection and ranging) is an efficient tool to obtain a large amount of high-density 3D measurement data. To use this method, it is required to extract the desired facade openings from the data in a fully automatic manner. This research presents a new process for the extraction of windows and doors from LiDAR mobile mapping data. Deep learning object detection models are trained to identify these objects. Usually, this requires to provide large amounts of manual annotations.
In this paper, we mitigate this problem by leveraging a rule-based method. In a first step, the rule-based method is used to generate pseudo-labels. A semi-supervised learning strategy is then applied with three different levels of supervision. The results show that using only automatically generated pseudo-labels, the learning-based model outperforms the rule-based approach by 14.6% in terms of F1-score. After five hours of human supervision, it is possible to improve the model by another 6.2%. By comparing the detected facade openings' heights with the predicted water levels from a flood simulation model, a map can be produced which assigns per-building flood risk levels. Thus, our research provides a new geographic information layer for fine-grained urban emergency response. This information can be combined with flood forecasting to provide a more targeted disaster prevention guide for the city's infrastructure and residential buildings.
