[Termes IGN] visionIndex. décimale : THESE Thèses et HDR Résumé : (auteur) This thesis work deals with extracting features and low-level primitives from perceptual image information to understand scenes. Motivated by the needs and problems in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) vision based navigation, we propose novel methods focusing on image understanding problems. This work explores three main pieces of information in an image: intensity, color, and texture. In the first chapter of the manuscript, we work with the intensity information through image contours. We combine this information with human perception concepts, such as the Helmholtz principle and the Gestalt laws, to propose an unsupervised framework for object detection and identification. We validate this methodology in the last stage of the drone navigation, just before the landing. In the following chapters of the manuscript, we explore the color and texture information contained in the images. First, we present an analysis of color and texture as global distributions of an image. This approach leads us to study the Optimal Transport theory and its properties as a true metric for color and texture distributions comparison. We review and compare the most popular similarity measures between distributions to show the importance of a metric with the correct properties such as non-negativity and symmetry. We validate such concepts in two image retrieval systems based on the similarity of color distribution and texture energy distribution. Finally, we build an image representation that exploits the relationship between color and texture information. The image representation results from the image’s spectral decomposition, which we obtain by the convolution with a family of Gabor filters. We present in detail the improvements to the Gabor filter and the properties of the complex color spaces. We validate our methodology with a series of segmentation and boundary detection algorithms based on the computed perceptual feature space. [Termes IGN] urbanisationRésumé : (auteur) With rapid urbanization, the disposal and management of urban construction waste have become the main concerns of urban management. The distribution of urban construction waste is characterized by its wide range, irregularity, and ease of confusion with the surrounding ground objects, such as bare soil, buildings, and vegetation. Therefore, it is difficult to extract and identify information related to urban construction waste by using the traditional single spectral feature analysis method due to the problem of spectral confusion between construction waste and the surrounding ground objects, especially in the context of very-high-resolution (VHR) remote sensing images. Considering the multi-feature analysis method for VHR remote sensing images, we propose an optimal method that combines morphological indexing and hierarchical segmentation to extract the information on urban construction waste in VHR images. By comparing the differences between construction waste and the surrounding ground objects in terms of the spectrum, geometry, texture, and other features, we selected an optimal feature subset to improve the separability of the construction waste and other objects; then, we established a classification model of knowledge rules to achieve the rapid and accurate extraction of construction waste information. We also chose two experimental areas of Beijing to validate our algorithm. By using construction waste separability quality evaluation indexes, the identification accuracy of construction waste in the two study areas was determined to be 96.6% and 96.2%, the separability indexes of the construction waste and buildings reached 1.000, and the separability indexes of the construction waste and vegetation reached 1.000 and 0.818. The experimental results show that our method can accurately identify the exposed construction waste and construction waste covered with a dust screen, and it can effectively solve the problem of spectral confusion between the construction waste and the bare soil, buildings, and vegetation. [Termes IGN] vectorisationRésumé : (auteur) Maps have been a unique source of knowledge for centuries. Such historical documents provide invaluable information for analyzing the complex spatial transformation of landscapes over important time frames. This is particularly true for urban areas that encompass multiple interleaved research domains (social sciences, economy, etc.). The large amount and significant diversity of map sources call for automatic image processing techniques in order to extract the relevant objects under a vectorial shape. The complexity of maps (text, noise, digiti-zation artifacts, etc.) has hindered the capacity of proposing a versatile and efficient raster-to-vector approaches for decades. We propose alearnable, reproducible, and reusable solution for the automatic transformation of raster maps into vector objects (building blocks, streets, rivers). It is built upon the complementary strength of mathematical morphology and convolutional neural networks through efficient edge filtering. Even more, we modify ConnNet and combine with deep edgefiltering architecture to make use of pixel connectivity information and built an end-to-end system without requiring any post-processing techniques. In this paper, we focus on the comprehensive benchmark on various architectures on multiple datasets coupled with a novel vectorization step. Our experimental results on a new public dataset using COCO Panoptic metric exhibit very encouraging results confirmedby a qualitative analysis of the success and failure cases of our approach. [Termes IGN] zone d'intérêtRésumé : (Auteur) Up-to-date cadastral maps are crucial for urban planning. Creating those maps with the classical geodetic methods is expensive and time-consuming. Emerge of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) made a possibility for quick acquisition of data with much more details than it was possible before. The topic of the research refers to the challenges of automatic extraction of building footprints on high-resolution orthophotos. The objectives of this study were as follows: (1) to test the possibility of using different publicly available datasets (Tanzania, AIRS and Inria) for neural network training and then test the generalisation capability of the model on the Area Of Interest (AOI); (2) to evaluate the effect of the normalised digital surface model (nDSM) on the results of neural network training and implementation. Evaluation of the results shown that the models trained on the Tanzania (IoU 36.4%), AIRS (IoU 64.4%) and Inria (IoU 7.4%) datasets doesn't satisfy the requested accuracy to update cadastral maps in study area. Much better results are achieved in the second part of the study, where the training of the neural network was done on tiles (256x256) of the orthophoto of AOI created from data acquired using UAV. A combination of RGB orthophoto with nDSM resulted in a 2% increase of IoU, achieving the final IoU of over 90%. [Termes IGN] trafic maritimeRésumé : (auteur) Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) plays a remarkable role in ocean surveillance, with capabilities of detecting oil spills, icebergs, and marine traffic both at daytime and at night, regardless of clouds and extreme weather conditions. The detection of ocean objects using SAR relies on well-established methods, mostly adaptive thresholding algorithms. In most waters, the dominant ocean objects are ships, whereas in arctic waters the vast majority of objects are icebergs drifting in the ocean and can be mistaken for ships in terms of navigation and ocean surveillance. Since these objects can look very much alike in SAR images, the determination of what objects actually are still relies on manual detection and human interpretation. With the increasing interest in the arctic regions for marine transportation, it is crucial to develop novel approaches for automatic monitoring of the traffic in these waters with satellite data. Hence, this study aims at proposing a deep learning model based on YoloV3 for discriminating icebergs and ships, which could be used for mapping ocean objects ahead of a journey. Using dual-polarization Sentinel-1 data, we pilot-tested our approach on a case study in Greenland. Our findings reveal that our approach is capable of training a deep learning model with reliable detection accuracy. Our methodical approach along with the choice of data and classifiers can be of great importance to climate change researchers, shipping industries and biodiversity analysts. The main difficulties were faced in the creation of training data in the Arctic waters and we concluded that future work must focus on issues regarding training data.
