[Termes IGN] zone humideRésumé : (Auteur) Les zones humides situées au coeur des marges semi-arides du domaine méditerranéen sont des milieux fragiles, sensibles aux variations introduites dans leurs bilans climatiques et/ou hydrologiques et particulièrement marquées par des pressions anthropiques accrues depuis les années 1960. En Anatolie centrale, la disparition rapide et récente des zones humides revêt de multiples facettes. L'objectif de cet article est de monter comment le traitement d'une série d'images satellitales multispectrales (LANDSAT TM et SPOT XS) permet de mettre en évidence d'une part, la vitesse des changements structurels au sein de la zone humide d'Akgol (i.e. contraction, fragmentation et mutations) à partir d'une analyse diachronique régressive (2000-1993-1987-1984) et, d'autre part, d'identifier la nature des transformations spatiales (i.e. ouverture de la roselière, progression de la steppe herbacée, etc.) à partir de classifications croisées. Ces résultats sont utiles à une meilleure compréhension de la sensibilité des marais aux dynamiques récentes des paysages centre-anatoliens. [Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) AdaBoost, a machine learning technique, is employed for supervised classification of land-cover categories of geostatistical data. We introduce contextual classifiers based on neighboring pixels. First, posterior probabilities are calculated at all pixels. Then averages of the log posteriors are calculated in different neighborhoods and are then used as contextual classification functions. Weights for the classification functions can be determined by minimizing the empirical risk with multiclass. Finally, a convex combination of classification functions is obtained. The classification is performed by a noniterative maximization procedure. The proposed method is applied to artificial multispectral images and benchmark datasets. The performance of the proposed method is excellent and similar to Markov-random-field-based classifier, which requires an iterative maximization procedure. [Termes IGN] transformation de HoughRésumé : (Auteur) From the recent availability of images recorded by synthetic aperture radar (SAR) airborne systems, automatic results of digital elevation models (DEMs) on urban structures have been published lately. This paper deals with automatic extraction of three-dimensional (3-D) buildings from stereoscopic high-resolution images recorded by the SAR airborne RAMSES sensor from the French Aerospace Research Center (ONERA). On these images, roofs are not very textured whereas typical strong L-shaped echoes are visible. These returns generally result from dihedral corners between ground and structures. They provide a part of the building footprints and the ground altitude, but not the building heights. Thus, we present an adapted processing scheme in two steps. First is stereoscopic structure extraction from L-shaped echoes. Buildings are detected on each image using the Hough transform. Then they are recognized during a stereoscopic refinement stage based on a criterion optimization. Second, is height measurement. As most of previous extracted footprints indicate the ground altitude, building heights are found by monoscopic and stereoscopic measures. Between structures, ground altitudes are obtained by a dense matching process. Experiments are performed on images representing an industrial area. Results are compared with a ground truth. Advantages and limitations of the method are brought out. [Termes IGN] SibérieRésumé : (Auteur) Satellite data offer unrivaled utility in monitoring and quantifying large scale land cover change over time. Radiometric consistency among collocated multi-temporal imagery is difficult to maintain, however, due to variations in sensor characteristics, atmospheric conditions, solar angle, and sensor view angle that can obscure surface change detection. To detect accurate landscape change using multitemporal images, we developed a variation of the pseudoinvariant feature (PIF) normalization scheme: the temporally invariant cluster (TIC) method. Image data were acquired on June 9, 1990 (Landsat 4), June 20, 2000 (Landsat 7), and August 26, 2001 (Landsat 7) to analyze boreal forest near the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk using the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), enhanced vegetation index (EVI), and reduced simple ratio (RSR). The temporally invariant cluster (TIC) centers were identified via a point density map of collocated pixel VIs from the base image and the target image, and a normalization regression line was created to intersect all TIC centers. Target image VI values were then recalculated using the regression function so that these two images could be compared using the resulting common radiometric scale. We found that EVI was very indicative of vegetation structure because of its sensitivity to shadowing effects and could thus be used to separate conifer forests from deciduous forests and grass/crop lands. Conversely, because NDVI reduced the radiometric influence of shadow, it did not allow for distinctions among these vegetation types. After normalization, correlations of NDVI and EVI with forest leaf area index (LAI) field measurements combined for 2000 and 2001 were significantly improved; the r2 values in these regressions rose from 0.49 to 0.69 and from 0.46 to 0.61, respectively. An EVI "cancellation effect" where FVI was positively related to understory greenness but negatively related to forest canopy coverage was evident across a post fire chronosequence with normalized data. These findings indicate that the TIC method provides a simple, effective and repeatable method to create radiometrically comparable data sets for remote detection of landscape change. Compared to some previous relative radiometric normalization methods, this new method does not require high level programming and statistical skills, yet remains sensitive to landscape changes occurring over seasonal and inter-annual time scales. In addition, the TIC method maintains sensitivity to subtle changes in vegetation phenology and enables normalization even when invariant features are rare. While this normalization method allowed detection of a range of land use, land cover, and phonological/biophysical changes in the Siberian boreal forest region studied here, it is necessary to further examine images representing a wide variety of ecoregions to thoroughly evaluate the TIC method against other normalization schemes.
