[Termes IGN] polarimétrie radarRésumé : (auteur) A new method for unmixing radar polarimetric images with optical images is proposed. It was found that the polarimetric covariance matrix can be unmixed considering a linear model. As a result, this model is used to produce unmixed covariance matrices based on land cover types. We hope to prove that this unmixing of the polarimetric information produce greater information for land cover classification. [Termes IGN] mise à jour de base de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Land-Cover databases (LC-DB) are very useful for environmental purposes, but need to be regularly updated to provide robust and instructive spatial indicators. Moreover, very high resolution satellite images allow to cover large areas regularly. Thus, automatic methods have to been developed to tackle this issue. In this paper, a hierarchical inspection method is proposed to both update and extend LC-DB using satellite image. This framework is successfully applied on the French National LC-DB using a single VHR satellite image. [Termes IGN] variation saisonnièreRésumé : (Auteur) Lidar-based 3D tree reconstruction enables the retrieval of detailed tree structure; however, many existing methods are based on high-density discrete return lidar datasets. In this paper, we propose the use of small footprint waveform lidar data to achieve branch-level tree reconstruction for both leaf-off and leaf-on conditions. The DIRSIG simulation environment was used for algorithm validation purposes. Leaf-off data served as reference, and leaf-on reconstruction for a particular tree resulted in an average branch length difference of 0.07 m and an average angular difference of approximately 6 degrees for both tilt and azimuth angles. Compared to in situ methods this approach may be used by an airborne system for accurate estimation of forest biomass, forest inventory, land degradation, etc. in large scale applications. Furthermore, since this approach can also be applied on leaf-on trees, the tree skeleton characterization eventually can be conducted year round and will be less dependent on seasonal changes. [Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) In this study, we propose a novel methodology for automated detection of buildings from single very-high-resolution (VHR) multispectral images. The methodology uses the principal evidence of buildings: the shadows that they cast. We model the directional spatial relationship between buildings and their shadows using a recently proposed probabilistic landscape approach. An effective shadow post-processing step is developed to focus on landscapes that belong to building regions. The building regions are detected using an original two-level graph theory approach. In the first level, each shadow region is addressed separately, and building regions are identified via iterative graph cuts designed in two-label partitioning. The final building regions are characterised in a second level in which the previously labelled building regions are subjected to a single-step multi-label graph optimisation performed over the entire image domain. Numerical assessments performed on 16 VHR GeoEye-1 images demonstrate that the proposed approach is highly robust and reliable. A distinctive specialty of the proposed approach is its applicability to buildings with diverse characteristics as well as to VHR images with significantly different illumination properties.
