[Termes IGN] volcanRésumé : (Auteur) This study presents two approaches of textural classification on a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) ERS-2 image, with the aim of the location of the flows of lava and of the serviced zones around the volcanic site of the Mountain Cameroon. The first approach is a method of progressive supervised classification, where a single class is extracted at the same moment, by using 7 parameters of texture stemming from the run length method. Three classes of texture were extracted by this method and the images from the three classes were merged by the red green blue coloured composition to produce the final map. For purposes of comparison, a not supervised classification was applied to the same image. The applied not supervised classification uses parameters of texture stemming from the co-occurrence matrix method, and it lays on the detection of the peaks of a histogram. The results obtained by the two methods are coherent, and the validation of the results was made by observations during a recent mission on the site of study. [Termes IGN] vue 3DRésumé : (Auteur) In the year 1988, a new topographical map 1:50,000 of the Mount Everest region was published by the National Geographic Society. The full map content was derived from aerial images of scale 1:35,000, acquired in a 1984 photogrammetric flight. This highly acclaimed topographical map, produced with Swiss photogrammetric and cartographic know-how, serves until nowadays as an important work of reference. We took the analogue data (images, contours), converted them into digital form through scanning, and produced a texture-mapped 3D computer model. With a DTM of 10 m grid-size and natural texture pixel-size of 1 m this model is currently the best dataset available for an area of 25 by 25 km around the summit of Mount Everest. This paper reports about the production procedure of the model and shows some high-resolution photorealistic visualization results. The dataset has been used in the meantime by cartographers and animation experts for the production of new map-related visualization products and is much sought after by scientists of various disciplines. [Termes IGN] zone urbaine denseRésumé : (Auteur) This paper deals with the automatic extraction of the road network in dense urban areas using a few-meters resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. The first part presents the proposed method, which is an adaptation of previous work to the specific case of urban areas. The major modifications are 1) the clique potentials of the Markov random field that extracts the road network are adapted and 2) a multiscale framework is used. Results on shutle mission and aerial SAR images with different resolutions are presented. The second part is dedicated to road extraction combining two SAR images taken with different flight directions (orthogonal and antiparallel passes), and the obtained improvement is analyzed. [Termes IGN] méthode robusteRésumé : (Auteur) There are many factors to consider in carrying out a hyperspectral data classification. Perhaps chief among them are class training sample size, dimensionality, and distribution separability. The intent of this study is to design a classification procedure that is robust and maximally effective, but which provides the analyst with significant assists, thus simplifying the analyst's task. The result is a quadratic mixture classifier based on Mixed-LOOC2 regulized discriminant analysis and nonparametric weighted feature extraction. This procedure has the advantage of providing improved classification accuracy compared to typical previous methods but requires minimal need to consider the factor mentioned above. Experimental results demonstrating these properties are presented. [Termes IGN] transformation de HoughRésumé : (Auteur) Creating three dimensional (3D) models of a real urban objects is an important goal in a wide variety of applications. This paper describes a method that utilizes airborne laser elevation images and aerial images for the 3-D reconstruction of urban objects. Our modeling approach uses the vertical geometric pattern analysis of elevation images. These pattern correspond to object contours and, thus enable the extraction of the object. In addition, to provide realistic textured details, textures are cut from aerial images and mapped onto 3-D models. Our textures-mapping approach can avoid geometry mismatching and enable the automatic registration to determine the most reliable correspondence between projected outlines of 3-D models and contours of real objects shown in aerial images. Edge pairs, which are matched with projected outlines, are detected from aerial images. In order to minimize mismatching, we apply the voting technique based on the generalized Hough transform. Experimental results show that 3-D reconstruction of urban objects generally successful.
