[Termes IGN] test de performanceIndex. décimale : PROJET Mémoires : Rapports de projet - stage des ingénieurs de 2e année Résumé : (Auteur) L’équipe « Exploration Technology » de l’Helmholtz Institut Freiberg est une équipe qui a été formée très récemment et qui a pour but de créer et tester des outils permettant l’analyse et la surveillance de terrains d’étude en utilisant la photogrammétrie et la télédétection. Ce rapport présente les différents logiciels et scripts testés pour construire des modèles 3D et des Modèles Numériques de Terrain (MNT) avec la méthode de Structure from Motion, regarder les changements au cours du temps et analyser un terrain d’étude. Les principaux logiciels testés sont SURE, Photoscan, OpenCV, Cosi-Corr et ENVI Ces outils ont été utilisés afin d’étudier les changements au niveau de l’ancienne mine de Halle, au Nord de Leipzig. En effet, cette ancienne mine de lignite et de potasse présente un dôme de résidus avec des risques de glissement de terrain et un bassin drainant changeant très rapidement par cristallisation et dissolution de sels. Il s’agit donc d’un terrain idéal pour étudier les changements pouvant survenir au cours du temps. Note de contenu : 1. INTRODUCTION

[Termes IGN] image radar moiréeRésumé : (auteur) Coherent change detection using paired synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images is often performed using a classical coherence estimator that is invariant to the true variances of the populations underlying each paired sample. While attractive, this estimator is biased and requires a significant number of samples to yield good performance. Increasing sample size often results in decreased image resolution. Thus, we propose the use of Berger's coherence estimate because, with the same number of pixels, the estimator effectively doubles the sample support without sacrificing resolution when the underlying population variances are equal or near equal. A potential drawback of this approach is that it is not invariant since its distribution depends on the pixel pair population variances. While Berger's estimator is inherently sensitive to the inequality of population variances, we propose a method of insulating the detector from this acuity. A two-stage change statistic is introduced to combine a noncoherent intensity change statistic given by the sample variance ratio, followed by the alternative Berger estimator, which assumes equal population variances. The first-stage detector identifies pixel pairs that have nonequal variances as changes caused by the displacement of sizeable object. The pixel pairs that are identified to have equal or near-equal variances in the first stage are used as an input to the second stage. The second-stage test uses the alternative Berger coherence estimator to detect subtle changes such as tire tracks and footprints. We show experimentally that the proposed method yields higher contrast SAR change detection images than the classical coherent change detector (state of the art), the alternative coherent change detector, and the intensity change detector. Experimental results are presented to show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed algorithm for SAR change detection. [Termes IGN] TogoRésumé : (auteur) In this study, land cover changes between 1972 and 2013 were investigated in the Binah River watershed (North of Togo and Benin) using remote sensing and geographic information system technologies. Multitemporal satellite images—Landsat MSS (1972), TM (1987), and OLI-TIRS (2013)—were processed using object-based image analysis and post–classification comparison methods including landscape metrics and changes trajectories analysis. Land cover maps referring to five main land cover classes, namely, agricultural land, forest land, savannah, settlements, and water bodies, were produced for each acquisition date. The overall accuracies were 76.64% (1972), 83.52% (1987), and 88.84% (2013) with respective Kappa statistics of 0.69, 0.78, and 0.86. The assessment of the spatiotemporal pattern of land cover changes indicates that savannah, the main vegetation type, has undergone the most dominant change, decreasing from 67% of the basin area in 1972 to 56% in 1987 and 33% in 2013. At the same time, agricultural land has significantly increased from 15% in 1972 to 24% in 1987 and 43% in 2013, while some proportions of agricultural land were converted to savannah relating to fallow agriculture. In total, more than 55% of the landscape experienced changes between 1972 and 2013. These changes are primarily due to human activities and population growth. In addition, agricultural activities significantly contributed to the increase in the number of patches, degree of division, and splitting index of forest and savannah vegetations and the decrease in their effective mesh sizes. These results indicate further fragmentation of forest and savannah vegetations between 1972 and 2013. Further research is needed to quantitatively evaluate the influences of individual factors of human activities and to separate these from the impacts of climate change-driven disturbances. Indeed, the development of new satellite remote sensing missions leads to an increasing amount of multi-temporal data, with improved spatial, spectral, and temporal resolutions, available at various scales (Berger and Aschbacher, 2012; Belward and Skøien, 2015). In parallel, data becomes available for free, often through dedicated infrastructures, with the opening of satellite and aerial image archives (Landsat and Spot World Heritage, Sentinel missions (Wulder and Coops, 2014)) and with the growing power of benchmark contests, more focused on very high resolution data provision (Benedek and Szirányi, 2009; Rottensteiner et al., 2014; Vallet et al., 2015) or on data fusion (Debes et al., 2014). [Termes IGN] variabilitéRésumé : (auteur) Automatically detecting forest disturbances as they occur can be extremely challenging for certain types of environments, particularly those presenting strong natural variations. Here, we use a generic structural break detection framework (BFAST) to improve the monitoring of forest cover loss by combining multiple data streams. Forest change monitoring is performed using Landsat data in combination with MODIS or rainfall data to further improve the modelling and monitoring. We tested the use of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) with varying spatial aggregation window sizes as well as a rainfall derived index as external regressors. The method was evaluated on a dry tropical forest area in lowland Bolivia where forest cover loss is known to occur, and we validated the results against a set of ground truth samples manually interpreted using the TimeSync environment. We found that the addition of an external regressor allows to take advantage of the difference in spatial extent between human induced and naturally induced variations and only detect the processes of interest. Of all configurations, we found the 13 by 13 km MODIS NDVI window to be the most successful, with an overall accuracy of 87%. Compared with a single pixel approach, the proposed method produced better time-series model fits resulting in increases of overall accuracy (from 82% to 87%), and decrease in omission and commission errors (from 33% to 24% and from 3% to 0% respectively). The presented approach seems particularly relevant for areas with high inter-annual natural variability, such as forests regularly experiencing exceptional drought events.
