[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This paper develops a method for analysing changes in a surface, a scalar function defined over a two-dimensional region. The method is based on the topological method for a static surface that uses critical points (peaks, bottoms, and cols) and their connecting lines. To extend the topological method to spatio-temporal domain, four types of primitive events are proposed : 1) generation, 2) disappearance, 3) movement, and 4) switch. The change of a surface is described by a combination of these primitives. From sufaces of two times a set of primitive events that cause the change is deduced. They are stored in GIS as spatial objects with attributes, and their spatio-temporal pattern is visually analysed. To test the validity of the method, the change of retail cluster in Shinjuku and Shibuya area in Tokyo is analysed. The empiracal study yielded some interesting finding that help us changes in the spatial structure of retailing. [Termes IGN] nivellement par GPSRésumé : (Auteur) A GPS survey designed to precisely estimate ellipsoidal height was conducted in 1997 on benchmarks of a precise leveling line in Imperial Valley, California, a line actively leveled to monitor ground subsidence related to geothermal fluid withdrawal. The survey duplicated a 1995 survey. Data were analyzed to estimate differences in ellipsoidal height between adjacent benchmarks. GPSderived height differences for 1997 were compared to 1995 differences. Discrepancies were analyzed to identify leveling sections in which vertical movement might have occurred. Three such sections were identified. [Termes IGN] zone d'intérêtRésumé : (auteur) The aim of this application is to detect changes in an aerial scene by comparing stereo pairs taken at intervals of several years in order to update a database. The result is a set of image locations that have a high likelihood to contain changes. Each location will be submitted to a human operator who will either validate the given change and update the database or reject it. We are mainly interested in changes occurring for a specific class of objects: buildings. To isolate new construction, we provide an algorithm that works in two steps. First, during a focusing phase, we aim to eliminate a large part of the scene without losing any actual changes. This is achieved with a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) comparison between the two different dates. Then, in the second phase, we classify regions of interest (ROI). Each ROI is described by four images: a stereo pair of the focusing area at the first date and a stereo pair of the focusing area at the second date. To decide whether or not the ROI contains a change, we classify each of the four images as building or non-building. The building vs non-building classifier is a combination of several decision trees induced by learning. Each node of a decision tree is identified with a graph of features which is more likely to describe buildings than background. Finally, the classification results at the two different dates are compared. [Termes IGN] surveillance écologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The impact of global change on land surface attributes will not be uniformly distributed geographically. Changes in land surface attributes have major implications for ecosystem processes, geochemical cycles and society. Assessing the regions “at risk” of rapid land-cover changes and/or natural disasters is therefore a priority for global change research and for policies aimed at mitigating the impact of these changes. The paper describes a change detection technique based on the multi-temporal changevector to two years of SPOT VEGETATION data. The main processes detected are related to droughts, floods and deforestation. The study was extended to Europe and the whole of Africa over a time period from May 1998 to April 2000. Continental scale maps of change in surface attributes were generated over the growing seasons of every biome. Finally, a validation of the change patches identified allows us to interpret the type of change and their environmental significance.
