[Termes IGN] radar à antenne synthétiqueRésumé : (auteur) Change detection (CD) is a crucial topic in many remote sensing applications. In the recent years, satellite polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) systems (e.g., the Sentinel-1 constellation) became a suitable tool for multitemporal monitoring due to the regular acquisitions with a short revisit time in different polarimetric channels. Methods for CD in PolSAR data mainly focus on binary CD (i.e., they provide information about the presence/absence of change only), whereas the polarimetric enhanced information provides multiple features that can be exploited for performing multiclass CD. In this article, we introduce a novel framework for the characterization of multitemporal changes in dual-polarimetric data. The framework is based on the definition of polarimetric change vectors (PCVs) and their representation in a polar coordinate system. PCVs allow characterizing and, thus, to separate multiclass changes in terms of target properties of the single-time scenes and the scattering theory. The proposed model is used to: 1) derive the statistical behaviors of change and no change classes in PolSAR multitemporal images; 2) design an automatic and unsupervised strategy to estimate the optimal number of changes; and 3) distinguish no change from change classes and the kinds of change from each other. An experimental analysis has been conducted on three multitemporal PolSAR data sets having different complexities in terms of number and kinds of change classes. The results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach and the better performance with respect to both specific techniques for CD in dual-pol SAR data and a general multiclass CD method, not designed for PolSAR data. [Termes IGN] surface cultivéeRésumé : (auteur) The combined study of vegetation coverage (VC) and land use change provides important scientific guidance for the restoration and protection of arid regions. Taking Hongjian Nur (HJN) Lake in the desert region as a case study, the VC of this area was calculated using a normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), which is based on a mixed pixel decomposition method. A grey forecasting model (GM) (1, 1) was used to predict future VC. The driving factors of VC and land use change were analyzed. The results indicate that the average VC of the whole watershed showed a gradual increase from 0.29 to 0.49 during 2000–2017. The prediction results of the GM VC showed that the greening trend is projected to continue until 2027. The area of farmland in the watershed increased significantly and its area was mainly converted from unused land, grassland, and forest. The reason for increased VC may be that the combination of the exploitation of unused land and climate change, which is contrary to the country’s sustainable development goals (SDG; goal 15). Therefore, the particularities of the local ecological environment in China’s desert area needs to be considered in the development of ecological engineering projects. [Termes IGN] précision de la classificationRésumé : (auteur) The performance of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image change detection is mainly relied on the quality of the difference image and the accuracy of the classification method. Considering the above mentioned issues, this paper proposes an unsupervised framework for SAR image change detection in which each pixel is taken as a vertex and the collection of pixels is represented by hyperedges in a hypergraph. Thus, the task of SAR image change detection is formulated as the problem of hypergraph matching and hypergraph partition. First, instead of using the K nearest neighbour rule, we propose a coupling neighbourhood based on the spatial-intensity constraint to gather the neighbours for each vertex. Then, hyperedges are constructed on the pixels and their coupling neighbours. The weight of hyperedge is computed via the sum of the patch-based pairwise affinities within the hyperedge. Through modelling the two hypergraphs on the bi-temporal SAR images, not only the change level of vertices is described, but also the changes of local grouping and consistency within hyperedge are excavated. Thus, the difference image with a good separability can be obtained by matching each vertex and hyperedge between the two hypergraphs. Finally, a generalized hypergraph partition technique is employed to classify changed and unchanged areas in the generated difference image. Experimental results on real SAR datasets confirm the validity of the proposed framework in improving the robustness and accuracy of change detection. [Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (Auteur) Unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and structure-from-motion photogrammetry are transforming the way we produce topo- graphic data, with applications covering many disciplines in the geosciences, including coastal studies. To overcome limitations of ground control points (GCPs), we evaluate direct georeferencing (DG) of consumer UAS imagery for the cost-effective measurement of beach topography. Using DG, camera positions determined with on-board instruments provide air control points for photogrammetry, obviating the need for presurveyed GCPs. We validate the approach at Orewa Beach, New Zealand, achieving vertical accuracies similar to light detection and ranging ( Numéro de notice : A2020-187 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.14358/PERS.86.5.289 Date de publication en ligne : 01/05/2020 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.14358/PERS.86.5.289 Format de la ressource électronique : URL Article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=95037

The release of NLCD 2016 provides important new information on land change patterns across CONUS from 2001 to 2016. For land cover, seven epochs were concurrently generated for years 2001, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2011, 2013, and 2016. Products reveal that land cover change is significant across most land cover classes and time periods. The land cover product was validated using existing reference data from the legacy NLCD 2011 accuracy assessment, applied to the 2011 epoch of the NLCD 2016 product line. The legacy and new NLCD 2011 overall accuracies were 82% and 83%, respectively, (standard error (SE) was 0.5%), demonstrating a small but significant increase in overall accuracy. Between 2001 and 2016, the CONUS landscape experienced significant change, with almost 8% of the landscape having experienced a land cover change at least once during this period. Nearly 50% of that change involves forest, driven by change agents of harvest, fire, disease and pests that resulted in an overall forest decline, including increasing fragmentation and loss of interior forest. Agricultural change represented 15.9% of the change, with total agricultural spatial extent showing only a slight increase of 4778 km2, however there was a substantial decline (7.94%) in pasture/hay during this time, transitioning mostly to cultivated crop. Water and wetland change comprised 15.2% of change and represent highly dynamic land cover classes from epoch to epoch, heavily influenced by precipitation. Grass and shrub change comprise 14.5% of the total change, with most change resulting from fire. Developed change was the most persistent and permanent land change increase adding almost 29,000 km2 over 15 years (5.6% of total CONUS change), with southern states exhibiting expansion much faster than most of the northern states. Temporal rates of developed change increased in 2001–2006 at twice the rate of 2011–2016, reflecting a slowdown in CONUS economic activity. Future NLCD plans include increasing monitoring frequency, reducing latency time between satellite imaging and product delivery, improving accuracy and expanding the variety of products available in an integrated database.
