[Termes IGN] image multitemporelleRésumé : (Auteur) The new generation of satellite hyperspectral (HS) sensors can acquire very detailed spectral information directly related to land surface materials. Thus, when multitemporal images are considered, they allow us to detect many potential changes in land covers. This paper addresses the change-detection (CD) problem in multitemporal HS remote sensing images, analyzing the complexity of this task. A novel hierarchical CD approach is proposed, which is aimed at identifying all the possible change classes present between the considered images. In greater detail, in order to formalize the CD problem in HS images, an analysis of the concept of “change” is given from the perspective of pixel spectral behaviors. The proposed novel hierarchical scheme is developed by considering spectral change information to identify the change classes having discriminable spectral behaviors. Due to the fact that, in real applications, reference samples are often not available, the proposed approach is designed in an unsupervised way. Experimental results obtained on both simulated and real multitemporal HS images demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed CD method. [Termes IGN] Yunnan (Chine)Résumé : (Auteur) Changes in forest composition impact ecological services, and are considered important factors driving global climate change. A hybrid sampling method along with a modelling approach to map current and past land cover in Kunming, China is reported. MODIS land cover (2001–2011) data-sets were used to detect pixels with no apparent change. Around 3000 ‘no change points’ were systematically selected and sampled using Google Earth’s high-resolution imagery. Thirty-five per cent of these points were verified and used for training and validation. We used Random forests to classify multi-temporal Landsat imagery. Results show that forest cover has had a net decrease of 14385 ha (1.3% of forest area), which was primary converted to shrublands (11%), urban and barren land (2.7%) and agriculture (2.5%). Our validation indicates an overall accuracy (Kappa) of 82%. Our methodology can be used to consistently map the dynamics of land cover change in similar areas with minimum costs. [Termes IGN] tempêteRésumé : (auteur) The availability of Landsat data (Landsat 4, 5, 7 and 8) from ~30 years makes it possible to analyze the forest long term dynamics at high resolution (30m). The performances of the Landsat time-series have been already demonstrated for mapping and monitoring the annual clear-cuts and the storm damage in the Landes Forest, that covers ~1 million ha in southwestern France and that is heavily managed with even-aged stands with rather short rotations after clear-cut harvesting. Our objectives aimed at improving, automating, and enriching these previous methods. This was to operationally produce over the whole Landes Forest not only (1) the annual maps of clear-cutting from 1984 up the current year but also (2) the map of the current age that was derived from the forest change detected every year since 1984. The developed methodology used the time-series of surface reflectance and cloud mask provided for Landsat by USGS and sought to cope the possible absence of cloud-free image during the interest season or the numerous missing data in Landsat 7 images after 2002. The retrospective processing of the Landsat time-series from 1984 to 2014 made it possible the prediction of actual current age with a satisfactory accuracy. [Termes IGN] précision infrapixellaireRésumé : (auteur) Course-resolution remotely sensed images are high in temporal repetition rates, but their low spatial resolution limits their application in updating land cover maps. Our proposed land cover updating method involves the use of coarse-resolution images to update fine-resolution land cover maps. The method comprises change detection and sub-pixel mapping methods. The current coarse-resolution image is unmixed, and the previous fine-resolution map is spatially degraded to produce current and previous class fraction images. A change detection method is applied to these fraction images to create a fine-resolution binary change/non-change map. Finally, a sub-pixel mapping method is applied to update the fine-resolution pixel labels that are changed in the change/ non-change map. The proposed method is compared with a pixel-based classification method and two sub-pixel mapping methods. The proposed method maintains most of the spatial patterns of land cover classes that are unchanged in the previous and current images, whereas other methods cannot.
