[Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Due to the existence of shadows, especially in urban environments, it is difficult to extract semantic information from aerial and high-resolution satellite images. In this paper, an efficient method of correcting shadow effects using multisource data sets in aerial color images is proposed. The proposed method has three steps. First, it accurately detects the shadowed regions using the image geometry and the solar position of the image acquisition data. Then, the detected shadowed regions are segmented according to land surface type. Finally, the shadow effects of the segmented regions are corrected by directly comparing the same non shadow features with the segmented shadows. In the application part of this paper, the proposed techniques were applied in the extraction of an asphalt road from an image. [Termes IGN] zone ruraleRésumé : (Auteur) Image segmentation can be performed on raw radiometric data, but also on transformed colour spaces, or, for high-resolution images, on textural features. We review several existing colour space transformations and textural features, and investigate which combination of inputs gives best results for the task of segmenting high-resolution multispectral aerial images of rural areas into its constituent cartographic objects such as fields, orchards, forests, or lakes, with a hierarchical segmentation algorithm. A method to quantitatively evaluate the quality of a hierarchical image segmentation is presented, and the behaviour of the segmentation algorithm for various parameter sets is also explored. [Termes IGN] végétationRésumé : (Auteur) A new algorithm for deriving skeletons and segmentations from point cloud data in O(n) time is explained in this publication. This skeleton is represented as a graph, which can be embedded into the point cloud. The CAMPINO method, (C)ollapsing (A)nd (M)erging (P)rocedures (IN) (O)ctree-graphs, is based on cycle elimination in a graph as derived from an octree based space division procedure. The algorithm is able to extract the skeleton from point clouds generated from either one or multiple viewpoints. The correspondence between the vertices of the graph and the original points of the point cloud is used to derive an initial segmentation of these points. The principle of the algorithm is demonstrated on a synthetic point cloud consisting of 3 connected tori. Initially this algorithm was developed to obtain skeletons from point clouds representing natural trees, measured with the terrestrial laser scanner IMAGER 5003 of Zoller+Fröhlich. The results show that CAMPINO is able to automatically derive realistic skeletons that fit the original point cloud well and are suited as a basis for e.g. further automatic feature extraction or skeleton-based registration. [Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) An approach for tree species classification in urban areas from high resolution colour infrared (CIR) aerial images and the corresponding Digital Surface Model (DSM) is described in this paper. The proposed method is a supervised classification one based on a Support Vector Machines (SVM) classifier. Texture features from the Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) are computed to form feature vectors for both per-pixel and per-region classification approaches. The two approaches are presented and results obtained are evaluated and compared both against each other and also against a manual defined ground truth. To perform tree species classification on highdensity urban area images, trees must previously be segmented into individual objects. All intermediary methods developed to segment individual trees will also be shortly described. Tree parameters (height, crown diameter) are estimated from the DSM. These parameters together with the tree species information are used for a 3D realistic modelling of the trees in urban environments. Results of the described system are presented for a typical scene.
