[Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (auteur) The WorldView-2 high spatial resolution satellite with eight multispectral imaging bands is ideally suited for extracting built-up areas (BUs) from remote sensing images. In this study, an object-based automatic multi-index BUs extraction method was developed. First, several indices, including BUs extraction index (NBEIr-c), vegetation extraction index(NDVInir2-r) and water extraction index (NDWI b-nir1), were developed to obtain the BUs, vegetation and water maps, and then the fractional-order Darwinian particle swarm optimization (FODPSO) algorithm was employed to automatically segment the multi-index images and obtained BUs, water, vegetation and bare soil (BS) information. Finally, the extracted BUs results were optimized via an object-based analysis method and the results were compared with those of two other relevant indices, which confirmed the proposed method had a higher accuracy and exhibited higher performance when separating the BS from the BUs. [Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (auteur) To analyze types and patterns of greening trends across a city, this study seeks to identify a method of creating very high-resolution urban vegetation maps that scales over space and time. Vegetation poses unique challenges for image segmentation because it is patchy, has ragged boundaries, and high in-class heterogeneity. Existing and emerging public datasets with the spatial resolution necessary to identify granular urban vegetation lack a depth of affordable and accessible labeled training data, making unsupervised segmentation desirable. This study evaluates three unsupervised methods of segmenting urban vegetation: clustering with k-means using k-means++ seeding; clustering with a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM); and an unsupervised, backpropagating convolutional neural network (CNN) with simple iterative linear clustering superpixels. When benchmarked against internal validity metrics and hand-coded data, k-means is more accurate than GMM and CNN in segmenting urban vegetation. K-means is not able to differentiate between water and shadows, however, and when this segment is important GMM is best for probabilistically identifying secondary land cover class membership. Though we find the unsupervised CNN shows high degrees of accuracy on built urban landscape features, its accuracy when segmenting vegetation does not justify its complexity. Despite limitations, for segmenting urban vegetation, k-means has the highest performance, is the simplest, and is more efficient than alternatives. [Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (auteur) Spatial analysis and pattern recognition with vector spatial data is particularly useful to enrich raw data. In road networks, for instance, there are many patterns and structures that are implicit with only road line features, among which highway interchange appeared very complex to recognize with vector-based techniques. The goal is to find the roads that belong to an interchange, such as the slip roads and the highway roads connected to the slip roads. To go further than state-of-the-art vector-based techniques, this article proposes to use raster-based deep learning techniques to recognize highway interchanges. The contribution of this work is to study how to optimally convert vector data into small images suitable for state-of-the-art deep learning models. Image classification with a convolutional neural network (i.e., is there an interchange in this image or not?) and image segmentation with a u-net (i.e., find the pixels that cover the interchange) are experimented and give better results than existing vector-based techniques in this specific use case (99.5% against 74%). [Termes IGN] superpixelRésumé : (auteur) The region-level SAR image classification algorithms which combine CNN (Convolutional Neural Networks) with super-pixel have been proposed to enhance the classification accuracy compared with the pixel-level algorithms. However, the spatial constraints between the super-pixel regions are not considered, which may limit the performance of these algorithms. To address this problem, an RCC-MRF (RCC, Region Category Confidence-degree) and CNN based region-level SAR image classification algorithm which explores the deep features extracted by CNN and the spatial constraints between super-pixel regions is proposed in this paper. The initial labels of super-pixel regions are obtained using a voting strategy based on the predicted labels CNN. The unary energy function of RCC-MRF is designed to find the category that a region most probably belongs to by using the RCC term which is constructed based on the probability distributions over all categories of pixels predicted by CNN. The binary energy function of RCC-MRF explores the spatial constraints between the adjacent super-pixel regions. In our proposed algorithm, the pixel-level misclassifications can be reduced by the smoothing within regions and the region-level misclassifications will be rectified by minimizing the energy function of RCC-MRF. Experiments have been done on simulated and real SAR images to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm notably outperforms the other CNN-based region-level SAR image classification algorithms. [Termes IGN] vision par ordinateurRésumé : (auteur) This article proposes an efficient and adaptive statistical superpixel merging approach with edge penalty for polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) image segmentation. Based on the initial superpixel over-segmentation result obtained by our previously proposed adaptive polarimetric superpixel generation algorithm (Pol-ASLIC), this work achieves efficient and accurate PolSAR image segmentation by merging superpixels using the statistical region merging (SRM) framework. This article proposes to define a new dissimilarity measure between superpixels, which takes the edge penalty into consideration, leading to a reasonable and accurate merging order for superpixel pairs. With regard to the merging predicate of superpixels, a polarimetric homogeneity measurement (HoM) is used to define the merging threshold, making the merging predicate and merging threshold adaptive to the PolSAR image content. Experimental results on three airborne and one spaceborne PolSAR data sets demonstrate that the proposed approach can effectively improve the computation efficiency and segmentation accuracy in comparison with state-of-the-art merging-based methods for PolSAR data. More importantly, the proposed approach is free of parameters and easy to use.
