[Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) The spatial familiarity of environments is an important high-level user context for location-based services (LBS). Knowing users' familiarity level of environments is helpful for enabling context-aware LBS that can automatically adapt information services according to users' familiarity with the environment. Unlike state-of-the-art studies that used questionnaires, sketch maps, mobile phone positioning (GPS) data, and social media data to measure spatial familiarity, this study explored the potential of a new type of sensory data - eye movement data - to infer users' spatial familiarity of environments using a machine learning approach. We collected 38 participants' eye movement data when they were performing map-based navigation tasks in familiar and unfamiliar urban environments. We trained and cross-validated a random forest classifier to infer whether the users were familiar or unfamiliar with the environments (i.e., binary classification). By combining basic statistical features and fixation semantic features, we achieved a best accuracy of 81% in a 10-fold classification and 70% in the leave-one-task-out (LOTO) classification. We found that the pupil diameter, fixation dispersion, saccade duration, fixation count and duration on the map were the most important features for detecting users' spatial familiarity. Our results indicate that detecting users' spatial familiarity from eye tracking data is feasible in map-based navigation and only a few seconds (e.g., 5 s) of eye movement data is sufficient for such detection. These results could be used to develop context-aware LBS that adapt their services to users' familiarity with the environments. [Termes IGN] segmentation sémantiqueRésumé : (auteur) With increasing urbanization, flooding is a major challenge for many cities today. Based on forecast precipitation, topography, and pipe networks, flood simulations can provide early warnings for areas and buildings at risk of flooding. Basement windows, doors, and underground garage entrances are common places where floodwater can flow into a building. Some buildings have been prepared or designed considering the threat of flooding, but others have not. Therefore, knowing the heights of these facade openings helps to identify places that are more susceptible to water ingress. However, such data is not yet readily available in most cities. Traditional surveying of the desired targets may be used, but this is a very time-consuming and laborious process. Instead, mobile mapping using LiDAR (light detection and ranging) is an efficient tool to obtain a large amount of high-density 3D measurement data. To use this method, it is required to extract the desired facade openings from the data in a fully automatic manner. This research presents a new process for the extraction of windows and doors from LiDAR mobile mapping data. Deep learning object detection models are trained to identify these objects. Usually, this requires to provide large amounts of manual annotations.
In this paper, we mitigate this problem by leveraging a rule-based method. In a first step, the rule-based method is used to generate pseudo-labels. A semi-supervised learning strategy is then applied with three different levels of supervision. The results show that using only automatically generated pseudo-labels, the learning-based model outperforms the rule-based approach by 14.6% in terms of F1-score. After five hours of human supervision, it is possible to improve the model by another 6.2%. By comparing the detected facade openings' heights with the predicted water levels from a flood simulation model, a map can be produced which assigns per-building flood risk levels. Thus, our research provides a new geographic information layer for fine-grained urban emergency response. This information can be combined with flood forecasting to provide a more targeted disaster prevention guide for the city's infrastructure and residential buildings. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first attempt to achieve such a large scale, fine-grained building flood risk mapping.

[Termes IGN] web mappingRésumé : (auteur) Maps in the form of digital images are widely available in geoportals, Web pages, and other data sources. The metadata of map images, such as spatial extents and place names, are critical for their indexing and searching. However, many map images have either mismatched metadata or no metadata at all. Recent developments in deep learning offer new possibilities for enriching the metadata of map images via image-based information extraction. One major challenge of using deep learning models is that they often require large amounts of training data that have to be manually labeled. To address this challenge, this paper presents a deep learning approach with GIS-based data augmentation that can automatically generate labeled training map images from shapefiles using GIS operations. We utilize such an approach to enrich the metadata of map images by adding spatial extents and place names extracted from map images. We evaluate this GIS-based data augmentation approach by using it to train multiple deep learning models and testing them on two different datasets: a Web Map Service image dataset at the continental scale and an online map image dataset at the state scale. We then discuss the advantages and limitations of the proposed approach. [Termes IGN] similitude sémantiqueRésumé : (auteur) Digital libraries represent the most valuable resource for storing, querying, and retrieving scientific literature. Traditionally, the reader/analyst aims to compose a set of articles based on keywords, according to his/her preferences, and manually inspect the resulting list of documents. Except for the articles which share citations or common keywords, the results retrieved will be limited to those which fulfill a syntactic match. Besides, if instead of having an article as a reference, the user has an image, the process of finding and exploring articles with similar content becomes infeasible. This paper proposes a visual analytic methodology for exploring and analyzing scientific document collections that consider both textual and image content. The proposed technique relies on combining multiple Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) components and multidimensional projection to map the documents to a visual space based on their similarity, thus enabling an interactive exploration. Moreover, we extend its analytical capabilities with visual resources to display complementary information on selected documents that uncover hidden patterns and semantic relations. We evidence the effectiveness of our methodology through three case studies and a user evaluation, which attest to its usefulness during the process of scientific collections exploration. [Termes IGN] signalisation routièreRésumé : (auteur) The category of road marking is a crucial element in Mobile laser scanning systems’ (MLSs) applications such as intelligent traffic systems, high-definition maps, location and navigation services. Due to the complexity of road scenes, considerable and various categories, occlusion and uneven intensities in MLS point clouds, finely road marking classification is considered as the challenging work. This paper proposes a graph attention network named GAT_SCNet to simultaneously group the road markings into 11 categories from MLS point clouds. Concretely, the proposed GAT_SCNet model constructs serial computable subgraphs and fulfills a multi-head attention mechanism to encode the geometric, topological, and spatial relationships between the node and neighbors to generate the distinguishable descriptor of road marking. To assess the effectiveness and generalization of the GAT_SCNet model, we conduct extensive experiments on five test datasets of about 100 km in total captured by different MLS systems. Three accuracy evaluation metrics: average Precision, Recall, and of 11 categories on the test datasets exceed 91%, respectively. Accuracy evaluations and comparative studies show that our method has achieved a new state-of-the-art work on road marking classification, especially on similar linear road markings like stop lines, zebra crossings, and dotted lines.
