[Termes IGN] triangulation de DelaunayRésumé : (Auteur) Clustering algorithms typically use the Euclidean distance. However, spatial proximity is dependent on obstacles, caused by related information in other layers of the spatial database. We present a clustering algorithm suitable for large spatial databases with obstacles. The algorithm is free of user-supplied arguments and incorporates global and local variations. The algorithm detects clusters in complex scenarios and successfully supports association analysis between layers. All this occurs within O(n log n+[s + t] log n) expected time, where n is the number of points, s is the number of line segments that determine the obstacles and t is the number of Delaunay edges intersecting the obstacles. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a study on modeling fuzzy topological relations between uncertain objects in GIS. Quasi-coincidence and quasi-difference, which are used to distinguish the topological relations between fuzzy objects, and to indicate the effect of one fuzzy object on another in a fuzzy topology adopted for the development. Geometrically, features in GIS can be classified as point features, linear features, and polygon or region features. In this paper, we first introduce several basic concepts in fuzzy topology that will be used in this study. This is followed by several definitions of fuzzy points, fuzzy lines, and fuzzy regions for GIS objects. Next, the level at which one fuzzy object affects the other is modeled based on the sum and difference of the membership functions that are quasi-coincident and quasi-different, respectively. Finally, an applicable example of using quasi-coincidence and quasi-difference based on the new definitions of fuzzy point, line and polygon is given. [Termes IGN] occupation du solRésumé : (Auteur) The present study focuses on the development of a new land cover classification product over France at 1 km resolution. It is based on data sets from the Earth observing system SPOT4/VEGETATION. The satellite measurements are aimed at supporting regional efforts to set up global mosaics on new land cover products. They have been acquired in the frame of the Global Land Cover 2000 project. The instrument design relies on advanced technology, which leads to an improved radiometric and geometric resolution data. Such characteristics allow taking full benefit of the daily repetitiveness of the VEGETATION wide field-of-view sensor without the drawback of a variable pixel size on the image edge. Several physical processing steps are successively operated to the images on a per-pixel basis to remove detector blindness, to filter cloud contamination, and finally to correct both atmospheric and surface anisotropy effects. A new thematic map using the K-means clustering method has been built. First, the results of the satellite-based land cover classification has been successfully compared with the Coordination of Information on the Environment (CORINE) database which serves as a reference to appraise the reliability of the study. Then, it has been inter-compared with land cover products derived from MODIS and AVHRR sensors. For this, an aggregative scheme particularly focused on major land units (forest, grassland, cropland) adopted in order to yield a whole mapping at the same geographic projection and space resolution. The discrepancies between maps enhance the quality of the proposed product, thanks to the use of advanced data processing and a more appropriate method. [Termes IGN] photo-interprétation assistée par ordinateurRésumé : (Auteur) Three major problems are faced when mapping natural vegetation with mid-resolution satellite images using conventional supervised classification techniques: defining the adequate hierarchical level for mapping; defining discrete land cover units discernible by the satellite; and selecting representative training sites. In order to solve these problems, we developed an approach based on the: (1) definition of ecologically meaningful units as mosaics or repetitive combinations of structural types, (2) utilization of spectral information (indirectly) to define the units, (3) exploration of two alternative methods to classify the units once they are defined: the traditional, Maximum Likelihood method, which was enhanced by analyzing objective ways of selecting the best training sites, and an alternative method using Discriminant Functions directly obtained from the statistical analysis of signatures. The study was carried out in a heterogeneous mountain rangeland in central Argentina using Landsat data and 251 field sampling sites. On the basis of our analysis combining terrain information (a matrix of 251 stands X 14 land cover attributes) and satellite data (a matrix of 251 stands x 8 bands), we defined 8 land cover units (mosaics of structural types) for mapping, emphasizing the structural types which had stronger effects on reflectance. The comparison through field validation of both methods for mapping units showed that classification based on Discriminant Functions produced better results than the traditional Maximum Likelihood method (accuracy of 86% vs. 78%). [Termes IGN] traitement d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Timely and accurate change detection of Earth's surface features is extremely important for understanding relationships and interactions between human and natural phenomena in order to promote better decision making. Remote sensing data are primary sources extensively used for change detection in recent decades. Many change detection techniques have been developed. This paper summarizes and reviews these techniques. Previous literature has shown that image differencing, principal component analysis and post-classification comparison are the most common methods used for change detection. In recent years, spectral mixture analysis, artificial neural networks and integration of geographical information system and remote sensing data have become important techniques for change detection applications. Different change detection algorithms have their own merits and no single approach is optimal and applicable to all cases. In practice, different algorithms are often compared to find the best change detection results for a specific application. Research of change detection techniques is still an active topic and new techniques are needed to effectively use the increasingly diverse and complex remotely sensed data available or projected to be soon available from satellite and airborne sensors. This paper is a comprehensive exploration of all the major change detection approaches implemented as found in the literature.
