[Termes IGN] Virginie (Etats-Unis)Résumé : (Auteur) Feature reduction in a remote sensing dataset is often desirable to decrease the processing time required to perform a classification and improve overall classification accuracy. This paper introduces a feature reduction method based on the singular value decomposition (SVD). This SVD-based feature reduction method reduces the storage and processing requirements of the SVD by utilizing a training dataset. This feature reduction technique was applied to training data from two multitemporal datasets of Landsat TM/ETM+ imagery acquired over a forested area in Virginia, USA and Rondônia, Brazil. Subsequent parallel iterative guided spectral class rejection (pIGSCR) forest/non-forest classifications were performed to determine the quality of the feature reduction. The classifications of the Virginia data were five times faster using SVD-based feature reduction without affecting the classification accuracy. Feature reduction using the SVD was also compared to feature reduction using principal components analysis (PCA). The highest average accuracies for the Virginia dataset (88.34%) and for the Rondônia dataset (93.31%) were achieved using the SVD. The results presented here indicate that SVD-based feature reduction can produce statistically significantly better classifications than PCA. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Geographic information systems (GIS) are generally used for representation, analysis and management of marine resource data. One of the most important resources intensively studied by marine biologists is fish stock dynamics. Fish aggregations are a fundamental component of fish stock dynamics that must be well understood to establish efficient recovery strategies in the context of declining aquatic resources. Despite many interesting capabilities of current GIS, these tools are prone to problems due to the 3D and dynamic nature of the marine data, including fisheries data. This paper proposes a new approach for modelling and visualizing fish aggregations in a 3D space. The proposed approach is based on an integrated approach using dynamic Delaunay tetrahedralization and the á-shapes 3D clustering algorithm. The proposed approach is first validated using several experimental data sets. Next, it is applied to acoustic fisheries data to extract, visualize and analyze fish aggregations. The proposed approach also has the potential for tracking and studying fish dynamics and behaviour, if needed. At the end of the paper, some results are presented, and the benefits and limitations of the proposed 3D model are discussed. [Termes IGN] visualisationRésumé : (Auteur) Parallel coordinates, re-orderable matrices, and dendrograms, widely used methods for visual exploration of multivariate data, are systematically integrated in a complementary manner for supporting multi-resolution visual data analysis with an enhanced overview + detail exploratory strategy. There are three main topics: (1) dynamic control across resolutions at which data are explored; (2) coordination and color mapping among the views; and (3) enhanced features of each view designed for the overview + detail exploratory tasks. A case study analysis is used to demonstrate the potential for boosting productivity for exploration tasks by coordinating the views through user-controlled resolutions within a highly interactive analysis environment. The case study is focused on a complex, geographically referenced dataset including public health, demographic and environmental components. [Termes IGN] ruissellementRésumé : (Auteur) This study investigates the changes in simulated watershed runoff from the Agricultural NonPoint Source (AGNPS) pollution model as a function of model input cell size resolution for eight different cell sizes (30 m, 60 m, 120 m, 210 m, 240 m, 480 m, 960 m, and 1920 m) for the Little River Watershed (Georgia, USA). Overland cell runoff (area-weighted cell runoff), total runoff volume, clustering statistics, and hot spot patterns were examined for the different cell sizes and trends identified. Total runoff volumes decreased with increasing cell size. Using data sets of 210-m cell size or smaller in conjunction with a representative watershed boundary allows one to model the runoff volumes within 0.2 percent accuracy. The runoff clustering statistics decrease with increasing cell size; a cell size of 960 m or smaller is necessary to indicate significant high-runoff clustering. Runoff hot spot areas have a decreasing trend with increasing cell size; a cell size of 240 m or smaller is required to detect important hot spots. Conclusions regarding cell size effects on runoff estimation cannot be applied to local watershed areas due to the inconsistent changes of runoff volume with cell size; but, optimal cells sizes for clustering and hot spot analyses are applicable to local watershed areas due to the consistent trends.
