[Termes IGN] TwitterRésumé : (auteur) Social media platforms enable efficient traffic event detection by allowing users to produce geo-tagged content (e.g., tweets) known as geosocial media data. Geosocial media data improve road safety by providing timely updates for traffic flow and traffic control. Recent studies on traffic event detection with geosocial media data have been focused around keyword-based query approaches, where the event content was inferred by predetermined categories, to retrieve relevant traffic events. Spatiotemporal features associated with traffic-related posts have not been fully investigated. In this study, we filtered irrelevant posts with association rules. A spatiotemporal clustering-based method was then used to retrieve traffic events from these filtered posts, where the content of detected events was automatically inferred with a set of representative terms. For comparison, a typical text classification-based method was also used by classifying the posts filtered from association rules into different categories. By validating the detection results with vehicle travel speed data, we demonstrate that the former outperforms the latter in terms of the number of correctly detected traffic events from one-year of Twitter data in Toronto, Canada. Our proposed approach helps organizations and governments to be aware of when and where traffic events occur by identifying event hotspots and peak periods, which improves both traffic management and urban planning. [Termes IGN] TurquieRésumé : (auteur) The number of traffic fatalities continues to rise steadily throughout the world. In 2016, it reached 1.35 million. The spatiotemporal analysis makes a big contribution when used with spatial and statistical analysis together in terms of the understanding of the change. This study focuses on spatiotemporal fluctuations in traffic accident hotspots to gain useful insights into traffic safety in Turkey in 2004–2017 period. For this purpose, 372,800 accident records are arranged on a GIS platform. The areas that lack traffic safety and require more attention were determined using spatial, temporal, and empirical Bayesian analysis. Although similar results were detected with spatiotemporal and empiric Bayes analysis, spatiotemporal analysis was used to understand where traffic accidents clustering, and how the trends of traffic accidents change whether are increasing or decreasing. As a result of the analysis, an increasing trend has been found in many locations in Turkey from 2004 to 2017. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) Spatial global sensitivity analysis (SGSA) reveals and ranks the input–output relation in spatial models. The SGSA output is twofold: (1) first-order effects which are the linear relations of every input layer with the output; and (2) high-order effects where the nonlinear interaction among input layers is depicted. The resulting sensitivity maps are twice the number of input layers which is challenging to visualize, considering the limitations of the human cognitive system or visual representations. Finding similar patterns and projecting that similarity into a 2D surface will help to tackle this voluminous visual load. This article presents the implementation of self-organizing maps (SOM), a type of artificial neural network, as a dimension reduction approach for SGSA visualization. SOM is also used for feature selection to identify the most relevant feature for model uncertainty. The winning neurons at SOM are projected as the influence map and the results are compared with conventional visualization techniques. [Termes IGN] urbanisationRésumé : (auteur) Transportation infrastructure, such as road or railroad networks, represent a fundamental component of our civilization. For sustainable planning and informed decision making, a thorough understanding of the long-term evolution of transportation infrastructure such as road networks is crucial. However, spatially explicit, multi-temporal road network data covering large spatial extents are scarce and rarely available prior to the 2000s. Herein, we propose a framework that employs increasingly available scanned and georeferenced historical map series to reconstruct past road networks, by integrating abundant, contemporary road network data and color information extracted from historical maps. Specifically, our method uses contemporary road segments as analytical units and extracts historical roads by inferring their existence in historical map series based on image processing and clustering techniques. We tested our method on over 300,000 road segments representing more than 50,000 km of the road network in the United States, extending across three study areas that cover 42 historical topographic map sheets dated between 1890 and 1950. We evaluated our approach by comparison to other historical datasets and against manually created reference data, achieving F-1 scores of up to 0.95, and showed that the extracted road network statistics are highly plausible over time, i.e., following general growth patterns. We demonstrated that contemporary geospatial data integrated with information extracted from historical map series open up new avenues for the quantitative analysis of long-term urbanization processes and landscape changes far beyond the era of operational remote sensing and digital cartography. [Termes IGN] image hyperspectraleRésumé : (auteur) Target detection (TD) is a major task in hyperspectral image (HSI) processing which, due to the high spectral resolution, requires dealing with the curse of dimensionality. The integrated feature extraction and selection is a well-known solution for dimensionality reduction of HSIs. In this study, a new method is presented to improve the performance of TD algorithms based on principal component analysis (PCA) feature space. In this method, using the implantation of the target spectrum (TS) in the HSI and following the simulated targets in the PCA feature space, the best principal components (PCs) are selected. Then, using the mixing and unmixing coefficients of the PCs, a new TS and a new image in the PCA feature space are created. Afterwards, using the new spectrum of the target, the TD algorithm is run on the new HSI. The performance of the proposed method is compared to nine counterpart algorithms on Hymap and Hyperion HSI. All the comparisons are performed using adaptive coherence estimator (ACE) TD algorithm. Experimental results illustrate that the proposed method, compared to its counterparts, yields superior performance based on the false alarm rate (FAR) measure. It gives an average FAR value of about 16, which is approximately 9% better than that of its best counterparts.
