[Termes IGN] propagation d'erreurRésumé : (auteur) Cellular automata (CA) models are in growing use for land-use change simulation and future scenario prediction. It is necessary to conduct model assessment that reports the quality of simulation results and how well the models reproduce reliable spatial patterns. Here, we review 347 CA articles published during 1999–2018 identified by a Scholar Google search using ‘cellular automata’, ‘land’ and ‘urban’ as keywords. Our review demonstrates that, during the past two decades, 89% of the publications include model assessment related to dataset, procedure and result using more than ten different methods. Among all methods, cell-by-cell comparison and landscape analysis were most frequently applied in the CA model assessment; specifically, overall accuracy and standard Kappa coefficient respectively rank first and second among all metrics. The end-state assessment is often criticized by modelers because it cannot adequately reflect the modeling ability of CA models. We provide five suggestions to the method selection, aiming to offer a background framework for future method choices as well as urging to focus on the assessment of input data and error propagation, procedure, quantitative and spatial change, and the impact of driving factors. [Termes IGN] projet routierRésumé : (auteur) Spatial impacts of highway projects on biodiversity of North-Eastern Himalaya remains largely unexplored. Usually a number of ecological criteria are required in biodiversity impact assessment. However, a wide set of such criteria can be overwhelming for the decision-makers to assess the viability of such projects. SBIAM uses landscape metrics and experts’ opinion to create a single composite biodiversity value map. The weighted area loss under various project alternatives estimated from Biodiversity Value Map is compared to identify the most viable alternative. SBIAM uses AHP and curve fitting method in the biodiversity estimation. The study indicates that the highway broadening project in the study area will cause a moderate biodiversity loss. Sensitivity analysis of SBIAM indicates its robustness, and shows that forest patches near the highway are most sensitive to disturbances and patch proximity. SBIAM can be applied in varied spatial scales, terrains and development projects as a decision support tool. [Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (éditeur) This book aims at presenting the estimation methods used in the first cycle of the National Forest Inventory in Romania. Romania is the twelfth largest country in Europe, and its forest vegetation area is larger than that of Austria and Switzerland together. Yet the last forest inventory in Romania was made in 1984 and based on forest management plans, not on specific sampling and measurements.
The expectations from the inventory were therefore very high and diverse. Like any other modern inventory, RO-NFI was designed to be a multi-purpose inventory which would deliver quantitative data to the ministry and forest administrations, but also to provide the data required for the periodical reporting such as the greenhouse gas reporting. While it started from scratch, the National Forest Inventory has integrated the most recent sampling methods used in countries with similar forest conditions, such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The book presents the sampling methods and conclude on the effects of the estimation method on the national-level growing stock, which brings relevant information for professionals from the field, but also for policy-desion makers interested in the use of national forest inventories for reporting on forest carbon emissions and storage.Note de contenu : Preface

We describe the spatialdata scala library providing such tools, including synthetic generators for urban configurations at different scales, spatial networks, and spatial point processes. These can be used to parametrize geosimulation models on synthetic configurations, and evaluate the sensitivity of model outcomes to spatial configuration. The library also includes methods to perturb real data, and spatial statistics indicators, urban form indicators, and network indicators. It is embedded into the OpenMOLE platform for model exploration, fostering the application of such methods without technical constraints. [Termes IGN] zone à risqueRésumé : (auteur) This study presents a methodology for conducting sensitivity and uncertainty analysis of a GIS-based multi-criteria model used to assess flood vulnerability in a case study in Brazil. The paper explores the robustness of model outcomes against slight changes in criteria weights. One criterion was varied at-a-time, while others were fixed to their baseline values. An algorithm was developed using Python and a geospatial data abstraction library to automate the variation of weights, implement the ANP (analytic network process) tool, reclassify the raster results, compute the class switches, and generate an uncertainty surface. Results helped to identify highly vulnerable areas that are burdened by high uncertainty and to investigate which criteria contribute to this uncertainty. Overall, the criteria ‘houses with improper building material’ and ‘evacuation drills and training’ are the most sensitive ones, thus, requiring more accurate measurements. The sensitivity of these criteria is explained by their weights in the base run, their spatial distribution, and the spatial resolution. These findings can support decision makers to characterize, report, and mitigate uncertainty in vulnerability assessment. The case study results demonstrate that the developed approach is simple, flexible, transparent, and may be applied to other complex spatial problems.
