[Termes IGN] erreur systématiqueRésumé : (auteur) Even if Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) remains the fundamental technique for geocenter monitoring, DORIS can also determine this geophysical parameter. Gobinddass et al. (2009) found that part of the systematic errors at 118 days and 1 year can be significantly reduced by rescaling the current solar radiation pressure models using satellite-dependent empirical models. Here we extend this study to all DORIS satellites and propose a complete set of empirical solar radiation parameter coefficients. A specific problem related to SPOT-5 solar panel realignment is also detected and explained. New DORIS geocenter solutions now show a much better agreement in amplitude with independent SLR solutions and with recent geophysical models. Finally, the impact of this refined DORIS data strategy is discussed in terms of Z-geocenter monitoring as well as for other geodetic products (altitude of high latitude station such as Thule in Greenland) and Precise Orbit Determination. After reprocessing the full 1993.0-2008.0 DORIS data set, we confirm that the proposed strategy allows a significant reduction of systematic errors at periods of 118 days and 1 year (up to 20 mm), especially for the most recent data after 2002.5, when more DORIS satellites are available for geodetic purposes. [Termes IGN] source d'erreurRésumé : (Auteur) Although various rigorous lidar error models already exist and examples of a-posteriori studies of lidar data accuracies verified with field-work can be found in the literature, a simple measure to define a-priori error sizes is not available. In this paper, the lidar error contributions are described in detail: the basic systematic error sources, the flight-mission-related error sources, and the target-characteristic-related error sources. A review of the different error-source sizes is drawn from the literature in order to define the boundary conditions for each error size. Schenk’s geolocation equation is used as a basis for deriving a simplified error model. This model enables a quick calculation and gives a-priori plausible values for the average and maximum error size, independent of the scan and heading angles as well as being independent of any specific lidar system’s characteristics. Additionally, some notes are provided for assistance when ordering lidar data, to enable easier a-posteriori quality control. [Termes IGN] propagation d'erreurRésumé : (Editeur) [...] If we lived in an ideal world, a receiver could make perfect measurements and model them exactly. Then, we would only need measurements to any four satellites to determine our position perfectly. Unfortunately, the receiver must deal with measurements and models that have some degree of error, which gets propagated into the position solution. Furthermore, the geometrical arrangement of the satellites observed by the receiver their elevation angles and azimuths can significantly affect the precision and accuracy of the receiver's solution, typically degrading them.
It is common to express the degradation or dilution by dilution of precision (DOP) factors. Multiplying the measurement and model uncertainty by an appropriate DOP value gives an estimate of the position error. These estimates are reasonable if the measurement and model errors are truly random. However, it turns out that this simple geometrical relationship breaks down if some model errors are systematic. If that systematic error is a constant bias and if it is common to all pseudoranges measured simultaneously, then the receiver can easily estimate it along with its clock offset, leaving the position solution unaffected. But if the errors are systematically different for the different simultaneous pseudoranges, as is typically the case when trying to correct for ionospheric and tropospheric effects, these errors propagate into the receiver solution in a way that is fundamentally different from the way that random errors propagate. This means that in addition to DOP, we need a companion measure of systematic effects. In this month's column, Dennis Milbert introduces just such a measure the error scale factor or ESF. ESF, combined with DOP, forms a hybrid error model that appears to more realistically portray the real-world GPS precisions and accuracies we actually experience. [Termes IGN] varianceRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, a least-squares based cadastral parcel area adjustment in geographic information systems (GIS) is developed based on (1) both the areas and coordinates being treated as observations with errors; and (2) scale parameters being introduced to take the systematic effect into account in the process of cadastral map digitization. The area condition equation for cadastral parcel considerations of scale parameters and geometric constraints is first constructed. The effects of the scale error on area adjustment results are then derived, and statistical hypothesis testing is presented to determine the significance of the scale error. Afterwards, Helmert's variance component estimation based on least-squares adjustment using the condition equation with additional parameters is proposed to determine the weight between the coordinate and area measurements of the parcel. Practical tests are conducted to illustrate the implementation of the proposed methods. Four schemes for solving the inconsistencies between the registered areas and the digitized areas of the parcels are studied. The analysis of the results demonstrates that in the case of significant systematic errors in cadastral map digitization, the accuracies of the adjusted coordinates and areas are improved by introducing scale parameters to reduce the systematic error influence in the parcel area adjustment. Meanwhile, Helmert's variance component estimation method determines more accurate weights of the digitized coordinates and parcel areas, and the least-squares adjustment solves the inconsistencies between the registered areas and the digitized areas of the parcels.
