[Termes IGN] véhiculeRésumé : (auteur) A GPS-aided Inertial Navigation System (GAINS) is used to determine the orientation‚ position and velocity of ground and aerial vehicles. The data measured by Inertial Navigation System (INS) and GPS are commonly integrated through an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). Since the EKF requires linearized models and complete knowledge of predefined stochastic noises‚ the estimation performance of this filter is attenuated by unmodeled nonlinearity and bias uncertainties of MEMS inertial sensors. The Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS) is applied based on the quaternion and Euler angles methods. A moving horizon-based estimator such as Model Predictive Observer (MPO) enables us to approximate and estimate linear systems affected by unknown uncertainties. The main objective of this research is to present a new MPO method based on the duality principle between controller and observer of dynamic systems and its implementation in AHRS mode of a low-cost INS aided by a GPS. Asymptotic stability of the proposed MPO is proven by applying Lyapunov’s direct method. The field test of a GAINS is performed by a ground vehicle to assess the long-time performance of the MPO method compared with the EKF. Both the EKF and MPO estimators are applied in AHRS mode of the MEMS GAINS for the purpose of real-time performance comparison. Furthermore‚ we use flight test data of the GAINS for evaluation of the estimation filters. The proposed MPO based on both the Euler angles and quaternion methods yields better estimation performances compared to the classic EKF. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a free spatial data source based on crowd sourced data. Although the OSM data have a range of applications, such as generating 3D models, and routing and navigation, quality issues are still significant concerns when using the data. Several studies have undertaken quality assessments by comparing OSM data with reference data. However, reference data are not always available due to high costs or licensing restrictions, and very few studies have quantitatively estimated the quality of OSM data under conditions where the corresponding reference data are not available. This study proposed the use of a building density (or building coverage ratio) indicator as a proxy, and designed a series of experiments involving different study areas to quantitatively explore the relationship between building density and building completeness for OSM data in urban areas. The residuals (estimated building completeness and reference building completeness) were also analyzed. Two main results were found from the experiments. (1) There was an approximate linear relationship between building density and building completeness in the OSM data. More precisely, the building completeness of OSM data was approximately 3.4–4 times the building density of OSM data. (2) Approximately 70–80% of the absolute residuals were smaller than 10%, and 80–90% of them were smaller than 20%. This shows that, in most cases, estimated building completeness was close to the corresponding reference building completeness. Therefore, we concluded that the building density indicator is a potential proxy for the quantitative completeness estimation of OSM building data in urban areas. The limitations of using this indicator were also addressed. [Termes IGN] TurquieRésumé : (auteur) It is investigated to what extent EGM96 affects the accuracy of digital elevation model (DEM) produced from the shuttle radar topography mission (SRTM). Global and regional analysis of EGM96 compared with EGM2008 indicate that locally there are large differences distorting to the accuracy level of SRTM DEM. In the absolute sense, the overall geoid differences throughout arc-degree tiles reach −5 m in the northeast and 2–3 m in the southern parts of Turkey. A numerical investigation over the test profiles of 200–700 km length running at various directions proves that a possible vertical datum change from EGM96 to EGM2008 yields systematically more accurate height information with an improvement of up to 2.5 m. A GPS-levelling traverse of about 900 km length points out some key patterns of this recovery. Consequently, a correction for the present version of SRTM DEM should be considered in critical implementations of Earth sciences like geoid or water flow modelling, especially for areas where EGM96 shows weak performance. [Termes IGN] erreur systématiqueRésumé : (Auteur) In 1962 A. Bjerhammar introduced the method of analytical continuation in physical geodesy, implying that surface gravity anomalies are downward continued into the topographic masses down to an internal sphere (the Bjerhammar sphere). The method also includes analytical upward continuation of the potential to the surface of the Earth to obtain the quasigeoid. One can show that also the common remove-compute-restore technique for geoid determination includes an analytical continuation as long as the complete density distribution of the topography is not known. The analytical continuation implies that the downward continued gravity anomaly and/or potential are/is in error by the so-called topographic bias, which was postulated by a simple formula of L E Sjöberg in 2007. Here we will numerically test the postulated formula by comparing it with the bias obtained by analytical downward continuation of the external potential of a homogeneous ellipsoid to an inner sphere. The result shows that the postulated formula holds: At the equator of the ellipsoid, where the external potential is downward continued 21 km, the computed and postulated topographic biases agree to less than a millimetre (when the potential is scaled to the unit of metre).
