[Vedettes matières IGN] Ecologie forestièreRésumé : (auteur) Since the adoption of European Union Council Directive 92/43 on the conservation of natural habitats and wild fauna and flora, some opposition has arisen among owners and managers of land affected by the directive. Some studies have indicated that some of this opposition has found expression in subsequent arson fires in these areas. This article analyses the occurrence of arson fires in the SACs (Special Areas of Conservation) included in the European ecological network, Natura 2000, in Galicia (Spain), more specifically in the montes vecinales en mano común (MVMCs), which are privately owned collective lands. We tested whether the declaration of SACs had a statistical impact on the forest fire regime in the period 1999–2014. The analyses focused on the sub-periods of 1999–2004 and 2005–2014, i.e., before and after the approval of the list of sites of community importance in the study area in December 2004. The results obtained show that, after the declaration of protection, there was a statistically significant increase in the area burnt by fire in these areas, mainly on private estates. We also found that the percentage of arson fires after 2004 was higher in SACs than in other territorial units. We found that the percentage of arson fires was reduced less in SACs than in other territorial units. Furthermore, we found that the area burnt per fire after 2004 in SACs was almost double that in the MVMC-SACs (12.04 ha versus 6.64 ha), so it can be concluded that the conservationist policies of the Natura 2000 network in Galicia have not had a positive effect on the forest fire regime. [Termes IGN] réserve naturelleRésumé : (auteur) Mangrove National Nature Reserves (MNNRs) play an extraordinarily significant role in conserving mangrove forests and their habitats. In China, one-fourth of the total mangrove forests were located in MNNRs. Understanding annual spatial distributions and conversions of these mangrove forests are important for precision conservation and rehabilitation efforts. However, to date, annual land cover maps of China’s MNNRs are still unavailable. Here, we proposed a rapid and robust approach to produce annual maps of each MNNRs for the time period of 2016–2020 based on 10-m resolution Sentinel-2 imagery. The proposed approach was developed using object-based image analysis, Otsu and Random Forest algorithm. Results showed that 1) during 2016–2020, areal extents of mangrove forest in all the MNNRs continuously increased from 5912 ha to 6128 ha; 2) obvious increase were found in Zhanjiang Mangrove National Nature Reserve where mangrove forest increased by 127 ha, accounted for 59% of national total increases; 3) newly grown mangrove forests were mainly converted from tidal flats and aquaculture ponds. Our annual maps of China’s MNNRs could provide a basis for managing mangrove ecosystems and supporting the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals related to coastal development. [Termes IGN] données marégraphiquesRésumé : (auteur) Satellite altimetry missions and tide gauges allow the monitoring of sea level variations over time. While tide gauges monitor sea level relative to a local reference, satellite altimetry missions do so in relation to the Earth’s geocenter. From the comparison between time series generated by these two methods, we observed differences that may be related to possible vertical land movement (VLM). Our objective in this study is to determine the linear trends of VLMs from the difference between the sea level trend found by the satellite altimetry missions TOPEX/Poseidon, JASON 1, 2 and 3 ( v SA ) and the sea level trend found by the tide gauge of Imbituba in Santa Catarina (SC), Brazil ( v TG ). For this, we demarcated cells along the satellite tracks at a radius of up to 500 km over the ocean from the location of the tide gauge station. The mean values for v SA (1992-2017) and v TG (2002-2015) were 2.5 mm/a ±1.2 mm/a and 5.4 mm/a ±1.9 mm/a, while the mean values for v SA (2007-2015) and v TG (2007-2015) were 7.1 mm/a ±4.6 mm/a and 13.0 mm/a ±4.2 mm/a, respectively. The comparison of VLM obtained between the combination of v SA and v TG and GNSS showed results with better consistency over longer time series. [Termes IGN] teneur verticale totale en électronsRésumé : (auteur) The widely used GNSS correction services for high precision positioning take advantage of accurate real-time TEC forecasting based on vertical total electron content (VTEC) maps. The methods for modeling and forecasting are mainly based on overly simplified assumptions, which in principle cannot reflect the real situations due to limitations of the mathematical formulations. Therefore, these methods cannot comprehensively capture the features of ionospheric TEC in spatial–temporal series. To overcome the problems caused by such assumptions, we combine ConvLSTM (convolutional long short-term memory) with spectrum analysis. The method allows the extraction of high-resolution spatial–temporal patterns of the ionospheric VTEC maps and accelerates the convergence time of neural networks. Extensive experiments have been carried out for short- and long-term forecasting and demonstrated that the performance of our method is better than other state-of-the-art models developed for various time series analysis methods. Based on the data from global ionospheric maps (GIMs) products, the results show that the root-mean-square error (RMSE) of global VTEC forecasting by our method substantially improves for two hours intervals over the years 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019 compared to existing methods, specifically, 20–50% reduction on 1 or 2 h forecasting in terms of RMSE. In addition, the method is sufficient to support real-time forecasting since it takes less than one second to output global forecasting solutions. With these properties, we can facilitate real-time and highly accurate ionosphere correction services beneficial to numerous GNSS correct services and positioning terminals.
