[Termes IGN] zone à risqueRésumé : (Auteur) We report about a preliminary study to evaluate the use of semi-automated imaging analysis of remotely-sensed dem and field geophysical measurements to develop a seismic-zonation map of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. For in situ data, Vs30 values are derived from the masw technique deployed in and around the city. For satellite imagery, we use an aster GDEM of Hispaniola. We apply both pixel- and object-based imaging methods on the aster gdem to explore local topography (absolute elevation values) and classify terrain types such as mountains, alluvial fans and basins/near-shore regions. We assign nehrp seismic site class ranges based on available Vs30 values. A comparison of results from imagery-based methods to results from traditional geologic-based approaches reveals good overall correspondence. We conclude that image analysis of RS data provides reliable first-order site characterization results in the absence of local data and can be useful to refine detailed site maps with sparse local data. [Termes IGN] visualisation de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) The rapid development of software and hardware during the last decade caused a paradigm change in data processing. That is why, in geosciences, monolithic GIS systems are increasingly complemented by web-based services and multimedia content, while geovisualisation is becoming more popular to visualise and analyse geoscientific processes. An increasing realism in geovisualisations tends to result in more complex geodata and metadata, requiring sophisticated solutions for efficient data management. This paper describes an integrated approach to geographic data processing and geovisualisation in an open, modular system. A former open-pit mining area in Central Germany characterised by a highly dynamic landscape and rapidly changing natural and anthropogenic processes has been chosen as an exemplary test site. Here, geovisualisation is used to depict the extreme changes in the landscape. The focus is on hydrological processes, which are highly complex and difficult to comprehend. The described approach will show how heterogeneous data can be used to support the understanding and transfer of knowledge. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) In land-use/land-cover change (LULCC) mapping, training fields for changed classes are often difficult to identify. In this study, a new sampling strategy is proposed for mapping LULCCs, in which change and no-change samples are obtained directly from overlaid bi-temporal images with a small shift or rotation. In this way, the artificial changes created maintain a certain degree of geographic information. This method is compared with a simulated sampling approach in which training samples of each land-use/land-cover type are selected separately from individual images and then cross-combined to form the 'from-to' classes. The case study demonstrates that both sampling strategies ease the difficulties in performing one-pass classification for LULCC detection and yield more accurate LULCC maps than that of the traditional two-step post-classification comparison method. Between the two sampling strategies, the proposed one provides higher testing accuracy than the simulated sampling approach, while the latter is easier to implement. [Termes IGN] traitement d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Change detection using remote sensing has considerable potential for monitoring land-cover change. Commonly, one specific class of change is of interest in many applications. In this paper, a recently developed one-class classifier, the One-Class Support Vector Machine (OCSVM), is proposed for the change detection of one specific class by multitemporal classification. The classifier only requires samples from the change class of interest as the training data. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated in two applications by comparing with conventional post-classification comparison methods. The results demonstrated the proposed method achieved both higher overall accuracy and higher kappa coefficient than the conventional methods, and demonstrated good potential for further application. The study also indicated that with the ocsvm, the analysis can focus only on the specific class of interest and does not need to treat other classes, thus providing highly accurate change detection. The OCSVM-based change detection method, as a general and easily implemented method, can be used for applications where only the change of one specific class is of interest.
