[Termes IGN] zone urbaine denseRésumé : (Auteur) Airborne lidar systems have become a source for the acquisition of elevation data. They provide georeferenced, irregularly distributed 3D point clouds of high altimetric accuracy. Moreover, these systems can provide for a single laser pulse, multiple returns or echoes, which correspond to different illuminated objects. In addition to multi-echo laser scanners, full-waveform systems are able to record 1D signals representing a train of echoes caused by reflections at different targets. These systems provide more information about the structure and the physical characteristics of the targets. Many approaches have been developed, for urban mapping, based on aerial lidar solely or combined with multispectral image data. However, they have not assessed the importance of input features. In this paper, we focus on a multi-source framework using aerial lidar (multi-echo and full waveform) and aerial multispectral image data. We aim to study the feature relevance for dense urban scenes. The Random Forests algorithm is chosen as a classifier: it runs efficiently on large datasets, and provides measures of feature importance for each class. The margin theory is used as a confidence measure of the classifier, and to confirm the relevance of input features for urban classification. The quantitative results confirm the importance of the joint use of optical multispectral and lidar data. Moreover, the relevance of full-waveform lidar features is demonstrated for building and vegetation area discrimination. Filling a gap in the current literature on the subject, this highly practical resource offers you an in-depth understanding of navigation signal detection and estimation algorithms and their implementation in a software radio. This unique book focuses on high precision applications for GNSS signals and an innovative RTK receiver concept based on difference correlators. You learn how to develop navigation receivers for top performance using basic algorithms, like correlation and tracking, which can be understood on an intuitive level. Additionally, the book provides you with a theoretical framework for signal estimation and detection that gives you the knowledge you need to make performance assessments without building a receiver. The theoretical treatment also gives you hints for choosing optimal algorithms for your projects in the field. Note de contenu : Introduction.

[Termes IGN] Quercus sessilifloraRésumé : (auteur) In this study, leaf morphology was assessed in a mixed oak stand (western France) using two geometric morphometric (landmark and outline) datasets and one dataset of 19 leaf measures. Adult oaks (817 oaks), comprising four white oak species ( Quercus petraea , Q. robur , Q. pubescens and Q. pyrenaica ), were sampled for DNA extraction and genetic analysis (nuclear microsatellites). Leaf morphology was assessed on 336 oaks, comprising pure species and hybrids as determined by genetic assignment. This comparative study of oak leaf morphology, based on the use of two free size geometric morphometric methods and a set of leaf measurements, combined with the genetic assignment of individuals to pure species or hybrids, provided information about the differences among species and the intermediate leaf morphology of their hybrids. In a previous study we found that salient shapes of star plot glyphs, such as "has one spike," influence the classification of the data represented by the glyphs. The shape differences in star plot glyphs are induced by assigning variables to rays in different ways. The first two experiments showed shape influences; we then conducted two follow-up studies to shed more light on the influence of shape. First, to address the question of how the classification of star plot glyphs would be affected if they were stripped of their meaning, participants were asked to group star plot glyphs as shapes. The second study colour-coded the rays of star plot glyphs to focus attention on differences in salient shapes; for example, the general shape characteristic "has one spike" cannot be applied so easily if each spike is a different colour. The results show that colour-enhancing star plot glyphs improves processing speed and reduces the influence of salient shape characteristics. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the multi-polarized and fully polarimetric L-band airborne SAR-R99B data, in terms of their capability to distinguish among different agricultural crops in the western part of Bahia State, Brazil. Emphasis was given to coffee, cotton and pasture crops which were at well developed growing stages. Discrimination among crops was carried out using graphical analysis of mean backscatter values. Crop classification was performed for single and multiple polarizations, and fully polarimetric images with a classifier that uses the contextual Iterated Conditional Modes–ICM algorithm. The investigation confirmed the potential of L-band multi-polarized and polarimetric airborne SAR-R99B data to distinguish and classify agricultural crops in the tropical condition of the test-site. In addition, it clearly indicated the gradual and considerable improvement that was achieved going from single to three polarizations and from multi-polarized to fully polarimetric images.
