The first chapter deals with the potential energy of mutual gravitation of isolated bodies. It follows a presentation of the balance equations of a system of extended bodies under sole mutual gravitation. The balance equations are given with respect to a spacefixed reference frame, resp. with respect to a parallelly transported reference frame. Concerning the rotation, the mutual gravitation causes a torque, concerning the translation a gravitational force resp. a tidal force in the case of relative motion.
In a further chapter the relation of the changes of the potential energy of the gravitational field caused by a (translational or rotational) displacement of an extended body to the forces, torques and tidal forces are shown.
It is shown that these changes of energy and the different forms of mutual gravitation can be derived applying displacement operators on the function of potential energy of mutual gravitation.
In the following chapter, the potential energy is formulated in terms of solid spherical harmonics. Next, the transformations of solid spherical harmonics and potential coefficients are presented in detail. The transformation formulae are given for finite and infinitesimal translational and rotational displacements. The expressions for infinitesimal displacements are used to construct the dis-placement operators.
In the main part of the study, the different functions of mutual gravitation, which are necessary to formulate the equations of motion, are derived applying the displacement operators. Complex notation has been adopted throughout the exposition for the sake of compactness; besides, corresponding real derivations are given from case to case.
Finally, the study closes with two appendices; the first contains some impor-tant derivations, the second a summary of used and derived formulae. Especially, expressions for conversion into real notation are given.Numéro de notice : 54829 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : POSITIONNEMENT Nature : Thèse étrangère Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=59701 Réservation

The effects of four types of error on absolute and relative undulations are estimated in detail, the analysis being based on a modification of Stokes1 integral formula. If a recent geopoten-tial model (e.g. GEM 10, GRIM 2) and mean gravity anomalies over surface elements of 2 ... 10 km side length are used, absolute undulations possess a global r.m.s. of ± 1 ... 3 dm ; relative undulations between points 10 km (50 km) apart can be derived with an accuracy of a few mm (cm). Differences of geoid undulations re-ferring to 10 - 100 km distant points are necessary in practical geodesy in con-nection with the evaluation of precise distance measurements as well as for geo-dynamic applications. By using the modified Stokes functions instead of the ori-ginal Stokes' formula the integration area may be strongly diminished. Most of the remaining gaps could be interpolated by least squares prediction filtering. The average r.m.s. error of the 12'x20' mean free air gravity anomalies has been estimated to +5 mgal. A comparison of the here presented gravity anomalies with 1°xl° gravity anomalies provided by the U.S. Defense Mapping Agency gave a r.m.s. difference of +5 mgal. From the covariance function of 12'x20' mean free air gravity anomalies reduced to the spherical harmonic model GEM10B, anomaly degree variances have been computed up to degree 500.
