[Termes IGN] valeur radiométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) Pleiades is the highest resolution civilian earth observing system ever developed in Europe. This imagery program is conducted by the French National Space Agency, CNES. It will operate in 2009-2010 two agile satellites designed to provide optical images to civilian and defense users. Images will be simultaneously acquired in Panchromatic (PA) and multispectral (XS) mode, which allows, in Nadir acquisition condition, to deliver 20 km wide, false or natural colored scenes with a 70 cm ground sampling distance after PA+XS fusion. Imaging capabilities have been highly optimized in order to acquire along-track stereo pairs and triplets, multi-targets and mosaics. The automatic orthomosaic product is the most ambitious innovation of the PHR ground image processing. Starting from an overview of the system characteristics enabling acquisition suitable for mosaic, this paper presents the geometric, radiometric and topological issues of the automatic ortho-mosaic and then focuses on the processing flow. It details the different steps: strategy, bundle adjustment, DEM refining, radiometric adjustment, seam line computation, a helped and quick image quality check and finally mosaic rectification. The process capabilities are illustrated with different sensor images. And finally the ortho-mosaic product content is described. [Termes IGN] VeniseRésumé : (Auteur) Tidal marshes are characterized by complex patterns both in their geomorphic and ecological features. Such patterns arise through the elaboration of a network structure driven by the tidal forcing and through the interaction between hydrodynamical, geophysical and ecological components (chiefly vegetation). Intertidal morphological and ecological structures possess characteristic extent (order of kilometers) and small-scale features (down to tens of centimeters) which are not simultaneously accessible through field observations, thus making remote sensing a necessary observation tool. This paper describes a set of remote sensing observations from several satellite and airborne platforms, the collection of concurrent ground reference data and the vegetation distributions that may be inferred from them, with specific application to the Lagoon of Venice (Italy). The data set comprises ROSIS, CASI, MIVIS, IKONOS and QuickBird acquisitions, which cover a wide range of spatial and spectral resolutions. We show that spatially-detailed and quantitatively reliable vegetation maps may be derived from remote sensing in tidal environments through unsupervised (K-means) and supervised algorithms (Maximum Likelihood and Spectral Angle Mapper). We find that, for the objective of intertidal vegetation classification, hyperspectral data contain largely redundant information. This in particular implies that a reduction of the spectral features is required for the application of the Maximum Likelihood classifier. A large number of experiments with different feature extraction/selection algorithms show that the use of four bands derived from Maximum Noise Fraction transforms and four RGBI broad bands obtained by spectral averaging yield very similar classification performances. The classifications from hyperspectral data are somewhat superior to those from multispectral data, but the close performance and the results of the features reduction experiments show that spatial resolution affects classification accuracy much more importantly than spectral resolution. Monitoring schemes of tidal environment vegetation may thus be based on high-resolution satellite acquisitions accompanied by systematic ancillary field observations at a relatively limited number of reference sites, with practical consequences of some relevance. [Termes IGN] signature spectraleRésumé : (Auteur) Obtaining ground truth for classification of remotely sensed data is time consuming and expensive, resulting in poorly represented signatures over large areas. In addition, the spectral signatures of a given class vary with location and/or time. Therefore, successful adaptation of a classifier designed from the available labeled data to classify new hyperspectral images acquired over other geographic locations or subsequent times is difficult, if minimal additional labeled data are available. In this paper, the binary hierarchical classifier is used to propose a knowledge transfer framework that leverages the information extracted from the existing labeled data to classify spatially separate and multitemporal test data. Experimental results show that in the absence of any labeled data in the new area, the approach is better than a direct application of the original classifier on the new data. Moreover, when small amounts of the labeled data are available from the new area, the framework offers further improvements through semisupervised learning mechanisms and compares favorably with previously proposed methods. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) L'objectif de ce travail est de tester l'apport de l'information texture-couleur à la classification des images SPOT (une seule date) pour l'établissement de cartes d'occupation du sol. Souvent la texture et la couleur sont abordées d'une façon complètement séparée. Dans ce travail, elles sont intégrées dans un seul modèle dit modèle de texture-couleur, afin d'étendre efficacement l'analyse de la texture pour les images multispectrales. Pour cela, la représentation habituelle de la texture, fondée sur la prise en compte des variations locales de contraste, est enrichie par l'adjonction d'une connaissance sur ses variations spectrales. Afin de tester l'apport de cette information, deux classifications ont été réalisées sur des images HRV (XS) de SPOT de la région d'Oran prise comme zone test pour la variété des thèmes en présence et son relief relativement accidenté. La première est purement spectrale et la seconde utilise en plus des canaux bruts, ceux de la texture-couleur. Les résultats montrent, qu'en plus d'une amélioration significative de 18.9% du taux global de bonne classification obtenu par rapport à celui de 75.9% donné par l'approche purement spectrale, l'information de texture-couleur a permis une meilleure discrimination entre les thèmes présentant une importante confusion après classification. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) Shape and spectra are both important features of high spatial resolution remotely sensed (HSRRS) imagery, and they are concrete manifestation of textures on such imagery. This paper presents a spatial feature index, pixel shape index (PSI), to describe the shape feature in a local area surrounding a pixel. PSI is a pixel-based feature which measures the gray similarity distance in every direction. As merely the shape feature is inadequate for classifying HSRRS imagery, a transformed spectral feature extracted by independent component analysis is added to the input vectors of our classifier, and this replaces the original multispectral bands. Meanwhile, a fast fusion algorithm that integrates both shape and spectral features using the support vector machine has been developed to interpret the complex input vectors. The results by PSI are compared with some spatial features extracted using wavelet transform, gray level co-occurrence matrix, and the length–width extraction algorithm to test its effectiveness. The experiments demonstrate that PSI is capable of describing shape features effectively and result in more accurate classifications than other methods. While it is found that spectral and shape features can complement each other and their integration can improve classification accuracy, the transformed spectral components are also found to be more suitable for classification.
