[Termes IGN] Web Processing ServiceRésumé : (auteur) An online spatial biodiversity model (SBM) for optimized and automated spatial modelling and analysis of geospatial data is proposed, which is based on web processing service (WPS) and web service orchestration (WSO) in parallel computing environment. The developed model integrates distributed geospatial data in geoscientific processing workflow to compute the algorithms of spatial landscape indices over the web using free and open source software. A case study for Uttarakhand state of India demonstrates the model outputs such as spatial biodiversity disturbance index (SBDI) and spatial biological richness index (SBRI). In order to optimize and automate, an interactive web interface is developed using participatory GIS approaches for implementing fuzzy AHP. In addition, sensitivity analysis and geosimulation experiments are also performed under distributed GIS environment. Results suggest that parallel algorithms in SBM execute faster than sequential algorithms and validation of SBRI with biological diversity shows significant correlation by indicating high R2 values. Note de contenu : 1. [Termes IGN] villeRésumé : (Auteur) The timely and secure evacuation of residents to nearby urban emergency shelters is of great importance during unexpected disaster events. However, evacuation and allocation of shelters are seldom examined as a whole, even though they are usually closely related tasks in disaster management. To conduct better spatial allocation of emergency shelters in cities, this study proposes a new method which integrates techniques of multi-agent system and multi-criteria evaluation for spatial allocation of urban emergency shelters. Compared with the traditional emergency shelter allocation methods, the proposed method highlights the importance of dynamic emergency evacuation simulations for spatial allocation suitability analysis. Three kinds of agents involved in evacuation and sheltering procedures are designed: government agents, shelter agents, and resident agents. Emergency evacuations are simulated based on the interactions of these agents to find potential problems, for example, time-consuming evacuation processes and road congestion. A case study in Jing’an District, Shanghai, China was conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method. After three rounds of simulation and optimization, new shelters were spatially allocated and a detailed recommended plan of shelters and related facilities was generated. The optimized spatial allocation of shelters may help local residents to be evacuated more quickly and securely. [Termes IGN] vulnérabilitéRésumé : (Auteur) Papua New Guinea (PNG) is saddled with frequent natural disasters like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, droughts, floods, etc. Flooding, as a hydrological disaster to humankind’s niche, brings about a powerful and often sudden, pernicious change in the surface distribution of water on land, while the benevolence of flooding manifests in restoring the health of the thalweg from excessive siltation by redistributing the fertile sediments on the riverine floodplains. In respect to social, economic, and environmental perspectives, flooding is one of the most devastating disasters in PNG. This research is conducted to investigate the usefulness of remote sensing (RS), the geographic information system (GIS), and multi-criteria analysis (MCA) for flood susceptibility mapping. MCA methods such as weighted linear combination (WLC) and analytical hierarchy processes (AHP) were used to assess flood vulnerability in the Wahgi catchment area through RS and GIS technology. In the study, attention was focused on different parameters that cause flooding. These parameters include elevation, slope, distance from drainage, soil texture, soil drainage, rainfall, landform, and land use and land cover. The classes within parameters were ranked and suitably weighted depending on their influence to flooding with reference to the PNG Resource Information System (PNGRIS) metadata. The result of the analysis is a flood-susceptibility map showing the most vulnerable areas. This type of map is very useful for better management, planning, and mitigation of future flooding in the Wahgi catchment area. The validation of the flood-susceptibility map was carried out using past flood records in the study area. [Vedettes matières IGN] Economie forestièreRésumé : (Auteur) Ecosystem services (ES) are the benefits that people receive from ecosystems. Understanding the impact of forest management on their supply can inform policy and practice for meeting societal demand. The objectives of this paper are to identify and review the effect of management intensity on priority ES supply and identify synergies and trade-offs among ES of different management approaches. We review seven priority ES identified from UK land and forestry strategy and policy documents: timber/biomass production, carbon storage, biodiversity, health and recreation, water supply and quality and flood protection. We present a synthesis of the impact of management on relative ES supply. It shows that low intensity management is unsuitable for high biomass production, yet provides high or moderately high levels of other services. Higher intensity management impacts negatively on biodiversity, health and recreation and water supply services. Combined objective forestry provides high or moderately high levels for all services except biomass. We recommend that a diversity of management approaches is needed to maintain multiple ecosystem service provision. The ES framework offers opportunities to forest management by revealing areas of conflict or co-production and potential trade-offs that may arise from adjusting management intensity.
