[Termes IGN] réflectanceRésumé : (Auteur) Due to the coincidence of hyperspectral reflectance nonnegativity (and its corresponding abundance) with nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) methods, NMF has been widely applied to unmix hyperspectral images in recent years. However, many local minima persist because of the nonconvexity of the objective function. Thus, the nonnegativity constraint is not sufficient and additional auxiliary constraints should be applied to objective functions. In this paper, a new approach we call constrained multilayer NMF (CMLNMF), is proposed for hyperspectral data. In this approach, the mixed spectra are regarded as endmember signatures that has been contaminated by multiplicative noise. The purpose of CMLNMF is to eliminate noise by hierarchical processing until the endmember spectra are obtained. Also, the hierarchical processing is self-adaptive to make the algorithm more effective. Furthermore, in each layer two constraints are implemented on the objective function. One is sparseness on the abundance matrix and the other is minimum volume on the spectral matrix. The hierarchical processing separates the abundance matrix into a series of matrices that make the characteristic of sparseness more obvious and meaningful. The proposed algorithm is applied to synthetic data and real hyperspectral data for quantitative evaluation. According to the comparison with other algorithms, CMLNMF has better performance and provides effective solutions for blind unmixing of hyperspectral image data. [Termes IGN] qualité des donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) With the development of location-aware devices and the success and high use of Web 2.0 techniques, citizens are able to act as sensors by contributing geographic information. In this context, data quality is an important aspect that should be taken into account when using this source of data for different purposes. The goal of the paper is to analyze the quality of crowdsourced data and to study its evolution over time. We propose two types of approaches: (1) use the intrinsic characteristics of the crowdsourced datasets; or (2) evaluate crowdsourced Points of Interest (POIs) using external datasets (i.e., authoritative reference or other crowdsourced datasets), and two different methods for each approach. The potential of the combination of these approaches is then demonstrated, to overcome the limitations associated with each individual method. In this paper, we focus on POIs and places coming from the very successful crowdsourcing project: OpenStreetMap. The results show that the proposed approaches are complementary in assessing data quality. The positive results obtained for data matching show that the analysis of data quality through automatic data matching is possible but considerable effort and attention are needed for schema matching given the heterogeneity of OSM and the representation of authoritative datasets. For the features studied, it can be noted that change over time is sometimes due to disagreements between contributors, but in most cases the change improves the quality of the data. [Termes IGN] troncRésumé : (Auteur) We present a data-driven technique to visualize forest landscapes and simulate their future development according to alternative management scenarios. Gentle harvesting intensities were preferred for maintaining scenic values in a test of eliciting public’s preferences based on the simulated landscapes.
Context : Visualizations of future forest landscapes according to alternative management scenarios are useful for eliciting stakeholders’ preferences on the alternatives. However, conventional computer visualizations require laborious tree-wise measurements or simulators to generate these observations.
Aims : We describe and evaluate an alternative approach, in which the visualization is based on reconstructing forest canopy from sparse density, leaf-off airborne laser scanning data.
Methods : Computational geometry was employed to generate filtrations, i.e., ordered sets of simplices belonging to the three-dimensional triangulations of the point data. An appropriate degree of filtering was determined by analyzing the topological persistence of the filtrations. The topology was further utilized to simulate changes to canopy biomass, resembling harvests with varying retention levels. Relative priorities of recreational and scenic values of the harvests were estimated based on pairwise comparisons and analytic hierarchy process (AHP).
Results : The canopy elements were co-located with the tree stems measured in the field, and the visualizations derived from the entire landscape showed reasonably realistic, despite a low numerical correspondence with plot-level forest attributes. The potential and limitations to improve the proposed parameterization are discussed.

In order to reduce the cognitive load of the user, we seek to add intermediate zoom levels with intermediate and progressive abstractions between buildings and urban areas. This paper proposes a method based on progressive block graying while enhancing building landmarks, to derive these intermediate representations from the individual buildings. Block graying is based on an automatic building classification, and a multiple criteria decision technique to infer inner city blocks. The landmarks identification relies on machine learning and several criteria based on geometry and spatial relations. The method is tested with real cartographic data between the 1:25k (with individual buildings) and the 1:100k scale (with urban areas): transitions with one, two, or three intermediate representations are derived and tested. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) is a family of decision support methods that allow analysts to structure a decision problem through the selection and evaluation of multiple and often conflicting criteria, using established techniques to standardize, weight, and combine these criteria. Through a case study of an area-based deprivation index for the city of Toronto's 140 neighbourhoods, we examine the variability of MCDA results under different decision models. We use interactive cartographic visualization to explore the impact of criterion weighting and three decision rules: weighted linear combination, locally weighted linear combination, and ordered weighted averaging. The modelling of socio-economic deprivation using these different decision rules and their parameters yielded different spatial patterns of deprivation for the same set of variables and weights. The results highlight the importance of examining multiple decision models before making policy recommendations.
