[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) In this article, we present a geographically explicit agent-based model (ABM), loosely coupled with vector geographical information systems (GISs), which explicitly captures and uses geometric data and socioeconomic attributes in the simulation process. The ability to represent the urban environment as a series of points, lines, and polygons not only allows one to represent a range of different-sized features such as buildings or larger areas portrayed as the urban environment but is a move away from many ABMs utilizing GIS that are rooted in grid-based structures. We apply this model to the study of residential segregation, specifically creating a Schelling (1971) type of model within a hypothetical cityscape, thus demonstrating how this approach can be used for linking vector-based GIS and agent-based modeling. A selection of simulation experiments are presented, highlighting the inner workings of the model and how aggregate patterns of segregation can emerge from the mild tastes and preferences of individual agents interacting locally over time. Furthermore, the article suggests how this model could be extended and demonstrates the importance of explicit geographical space in the modeling process. [Termes IGN] SIG nomadeRésumé : (Auteur) Significant interaction challenges arise in both developing and using interactive map applications. Users encounter problems of information overload in using interactive maps to complete tasks. This is further exacerbated by device limitations and interaction constraints in increasingly popular mobile platforms. Application developers must then address restrictions related to screen size and limited bandwidth in order to effectively display maps on mobile devices. In order to address issues of user information overload and application efficiency in interactive map applications, we have developed a novel approach for delivering personalized vector maps. Ongoing task interactions between users and maps are monitored and captured implicitly in order to infer individual and group preferences related to specific map feature content. Personalized interactive maps that contain spatial feature content tailored specifically to users' individual preferences are then generated. Our approach addresses spatial information overload by providing only the map information necessary and sufficient to suit user interaction preferences, thus simplifying the completion of tasks performed with interactive maps. In turn, tailoring map content to specific user preferences considerably reduces the size of vector data sets necessary to transmit and render maps on mobile devices. We have developed a geographic information system prototype, MAPPER (MAP PERsonalization), that implements our approach. Experimental evaluations show that the use of personalized maps helps users to complete their tasks more efficiently and can reduce information overload. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Changes in object geometry-type such as area to line are necessary in terms of the requirements of cartographic generalisation, and also for the creation of the network topology in geographical information systems. Geometry-type changes that reduce dimension include area-line, area-point and line-point changes. This study focuses on area-line changes. Since the area objects have different shapes, there is no unique solution that works in all possible situations. Well-known methods for area-line changes include triangulation, water lining, straight skeletons, etc. In this paper, an approach based on triangulation is introduced for creating road centerlines from blocks of parcels. Spaghetti large-scale map data are taken into consideration in this approach in which blocks of parcels are captured as polygons and roads are represented by the space between them. In order to implement this approach, a subprogram (script) is developed under the NETCAD software package - a Turkish CAD-GIS software package - with the Visual Basic scripting language. This subprogram also includes post-processing routines for the relevant node creation at road crossings, and delivers acceptable results for the centerlines; however, the post-processing needs to be improved.
