[Termes IGN] texture d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Most multi-source forest inventory (MSFI) applications have thus far been based on the use of medium resolution satellite imagery, such as Landsat TM. The high plot and stand level estimation errors of these applications have, however, restricted their use in forest management planning. One reason suggested for the high estimation errors has been the coarse spatial resolution of the imagery employed. Therefore, very high spatial resolution (VHR) imagery sources provide interesting data for stand-level inventory applications. However, digital interpretation of VHR imagery, such as aerial photographs, is more complicated than the use of traditional satellite imagery. Pixel-by-pixel analysis is not applicable to VHR imagery because a single pixel is small in relation to the object of interest, i.e. a forest stand, and therefore it does not adequately represent the spectral properties of a stand. Additionally in aerial photographs, the spectral properties of the objects are dependent on their location in the image. Therefore, MSFI applications based on aerial imagery must employ features that are less sensitive to their location in the image and that have been derived using the spatial neighborhood of each pixel, e.g. a square-shaped window of pixels. In this experiment several spectral and textural features were extracted from color-infrared aerial photographs and employed in estimation of forest attributes. The features were extracted from original, normalized difference vegetation index and channel ratio images. The correlations between the extracted image features and forest attributes measured from sample plots were examined. Additionally, the spectral and textural features were used for estimating the forest attributes of sample plots, applying the k nearest neighbor estimation method. The results show that several spectral and textural image features that are moderately or well correlated with the forest attributes. Furthermore, the accuracy of forest attribute estimation can be significantly improved by a careful selection of image features. [Termes IGN] traitement d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we present an algorithm, which automatically generates textured meshes of building facades from a set of multi over-lapping calibrated and oriented images. We are in a context of massive data production and aim at high geometric accuracy. The central idea is to create a 3D point cloud. After comparison between object-space and image-space techniques, we choose the latter and compute the depths of the pixels in each image using a correlation-based method. A post-processing step is necessary to filter points according to a confidence index and remove the sparse speckle noise. We then perform a global optimization to find a regularized surface. Finally, the 3D point cloud is triangulated. The resulting mesh is an accurate representation of the façade surface from each image view point. We obtain promising results, with a correct texture projection on the reconstructed model. [Termes IGN] vision par ordinateurRésumé : (éditeur) This proceedings volume collects the scientific presentations of the Scandinavian Conference on Image Analysis, SCIA 2005, which was held at the University of Joensuu, Finland, June 19–22, 2005. The conference was the fourteenth in the series of biennial conferences started in 1980. The name of the series re?ects the fact that the conferences are organized in the Nordic (Scandinavian) countries, following the cycle Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Norway. The event itself has always been international in its participants and presentations. Today there are many conferences in the ?elds related to SCIA. In this s- uation our goal is to keep up the reputation for the high quality and friendly environment of SCIA. We hope that participants feel that it’s worth attending the conference. Therefore, both the scienti?c and social program were designed to support the best features of a scienti?c meeting: to get new ideas for research and to have the possibility to exchange thoughts with fellow scientists. To ful?ll the above-mentioned goals, the conference was a single-track event. This meant that a higher percentage of the papers than in earlier SCIAs were presented as posters. We hope that this gave the participants better chances to follow the presentations that they were interested in. SCIA 2005 attracted a record number of submissions: 236 manuscripts. From these, 124 were accepted: 31 oral presentations and 93 poster presentations. This led to an acceptance rate of 53%. The program included also six plenary presentations and three tutorials. [Termes IGN] texture d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) The purpose of this paper is to evaluate spatial resolution effects on image classification. Classification maps were generated with a maximum likelihood (ML) classifier applied to three multi-spectral bands and variance texture images. A total of eight urban land use/cover classes were obtained at six spatial resolution levels based on a series of aggregated Colour Infrared Digital Orthophoto Quarter Quadrangle (DOQQ) subsets in urban and rural fringe areas of the San Diego metropolitan area. The classification results were compared using overall and individual classification accuracies. Classification accuracies were shown to be influenced by image spatial resolution, window size used in texture extraction and differences in spatial structure within and between categories. The more heterogeneous arc the land use/cover units and the more fragmented are the landscapes, the finer the resolution required. Texture was more effective for improving the classification accuracy of land use classes at finer resolution levels. For spectrally homogeneous classes, a small window is preferable. But for spectrally heterogeneous classes, a large window size is required.
