[Termes IGN] simulationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper evaluates errors and uncertainties in representing landscapes that arise from different data rasterization methods, spatial resolutions, and downscaled land-use change (LUC) scenarios. A vector LU dataset for Luxembourg (minimum mapping unit: 0.15 ha; year 2000) was used as the baseline reference map. This map was rasterized at three spatial resolutions using three cell class assignment methods. The landscape composition and configuration of these maps were compared. Four alternative scenarios of future LUC were also generated for the three resolutions using existing LUC scenarios and a statistical downscaling method creating 37 maps of LUC for the year 2050. These maps were compared in terms of composition and spatial configuration using simple metrics of landscape fragmentation and an analysis of variance (ANOVA). Differences in landscape composition and configuration between the three cell class assignment methods and the three spatial resolutions were found to be at least as large as the differences between the LUC scenarios. This occurred in spite of the large LUC projected by the scenarios. This demonstrates the importance of the rasterization method and the level of aggregation as a contribution to uncertainty when developing future LUC scenarios and in analysing landscape structure in ecological studies. Differences among maps were quantified using ecologically meaningful landscape indices. The objective was to inform research and management activities that are based on maps of reef ecosystems. Results indicate that inferences regarding the structure and organization of reef ecosystems are sensitive to changes in resolution of the maps characterizing them. Hard bottom, sand, and patchy features were the most sensitive to change in map resolution whereas continuous seagrass beds and linear reef features were not. [Termes IGN] limite de résolution géométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) In image fusion, the spatial resolution ratio can be defined as the ratio between the spatial resolution of the high-resolution panchromatic image and that of the low-resolution multispectral image. This paper attempts to assess the effects of the spatial resolution ratio of the input images on the quality of the fused image. Experimental results indicate that a spatial resolution ratio of 1 : 10 or higher is desired for optimal multisensor image fusion provided the input panchromatic image is not downsampled to a coarser resolution. Due to the synthetic pixels generated from resampling, the quality of the fused image decreases as the spatial resolution ratio decreases (e.g. from 1 : 10 to 1 : 30). However, even with a spatial resolution ratio as small as 1 : 30, the quality of the fused image is still better than the original multispectral image alone for feature interpretation. In cases where the spatial resolution ratio is too small (e.g. 1 : 30), to obtain better spectral integrity of the fused image, one may downsample the input high-resolution panchromatic image to a slightly lower resolution before fusing it with the multispectral image. Note de contenu : 1. [Termes IGN] point de fuiteRésumé : (Auteur) This paper deals with the retrieval of vanishing points in uncalibrated images. Many authors did work on that subject in the computer vision field because the vanishing point represents a major information. In our case, starting with this information gives the orientation of the images at the time of the acquisition or the classification of the different directions of parallel lines from an unique view. The goal of this paper is to propose a simple and robust geometry embedded into a larger frame of image work starting with an efficient vanishing point extraction without any prior information about the scene and any knowledge of intrinsic parameters of the optics used. After this fully automatic classification of all segments belonging to the same vanishing point, the error analysis of the vanishing points found gives the covariance matrix on the vanishing point and on the orientation angles of the camera, when using the fact that the 3D directions of lines corresponding to the vanishing points are horizontal or vertical. A validation of estimated parameters with the help of the photo-theodolite has been experimented that demonstrate the interest of the method for real case. The algorithm has been tested on the database of a set of 100 images available on line.
