Altogether 24 institutes with 22 absolute gravimeters and 9 relative gravimeters participated in the ICAG/RGC campaign. Accurate absolute and relative gravity measurements as well as precision levelling measurements were performed on the micro-gravity 3D-grid at the BIPM.
The 2009 comparison was the first to be organized as a Comité International des Poids et Mesures (CIPM) metrological Key Comparison under the CIPM MRA (Mutual Recognition Arrangement), which means that the result will be officially recognized by the governmental organizations responsible. As a consequence, the relative gravimeters employed were carefully selected and the measurement schedules were rigorously enforced compared with earlier campaigns. Thus the quality of the RGC2009 and the determination of the BIPM local gravity network were improved.
After 30 years and eight successive ICAGs, the BIPM has decided to transfer its role to the national metrological institutes, although the CIPM will continue to organize the key comparison as ICAGs. The background to the RGC2009, and the organization, data processing and final results of the gravity and vertical gravity gradients, are presented in this paper. This report is more detailed than previous final reports of the RGCs.Numéro de notice : A2012-734 Affiliation des auteurs : IGN+Ext (2012-2019) Thématique : POSITIONNEMENT Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1088/0026-1394/49/1/014 Date de publication en ligne : 07/12/2011 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1088/0026-1394/49/1/014 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=91453

[Termes IGN] quasi-géoïdeRésumé : (auteur) In 2004, the French Institut Géographique National (IGN), upon the request of the steering committee of the European Gravity and Geoid Project, prepared a dataset to test geoid computation methods. It consists of a set of about 240,000 gravity points, three digital terrestrial models (an accurate one, a low-resolution one and a filtered one) and 75 GPS/levelling points to evaluate the quality of the computed geoid models (Duquenne, A data set to test geoid computation methods. In: Dergisi H (eds.), Proceedings of the 1st international symposium of the international gravity field service “gravity field of the earth”, pp 61–65, 2006). In this paper, we compared the following geoid computation methods using the Auvergne dataset: the remove-compute-restore method using the unmodified Stokes’ kernel, the deterministic (Wong and Gore) and stochastic (KTH) modifications of Stokes’ kernel. For each method, we tested different choices of the parameters (radius of integration of Stokes’ anomalies, degree of modification of Stokes’ kernel, radius of integration of terrain effect, etc.). We analysed the results in order to find out which method performs the best and how the geoid modelling method impacts the results, considering the presence of errors in the dataset. The question that this work intends to answer is whether we should put our efforts rather on the theoretical investigations of geoid modelling methodologies, or on the acquisition of gravity measurements. The Global Geodetic Observing System established by the IAG utilizes a variety of techniques to determine the geometric shape of the Earth and its kinematics, the variations of Earth rotation, and the Earth’s gravity field. Space techniques play a fundamental role, with recent space missions also including gravity field recovery. Terrestrial techniques are important for regional and local applications, and for validating the results of the space missions. Global and regional reference systems are now well established and widely used. They also serve as a basis for geo-information systems. The analysis of the time variation of the geodetic products provides the link to other geosciences and contributes to proper modelling of geodynamic processes. The book follows the principal directions of geodesy, providing the theoretical background as well as the principles of measurement and evaluation methods. Selected examples of instruments illustrate the geodetic work. An extensive reference list supports further studies. The book is intended to serve as an introductory textbook for graduate students as well as a reference for scientists and engineers in the fields of geodesy, geophysics, surveying engineering and geomatics Note de contenu : 1 Introduction

[Termes IGN] gravimétrie spatialeRésumé : (Auteur) The European Space Agency’s Gravity field and steady-state ocean circulation explorer mission (GOCE) was launched on 17 March 2009. As the first of the Earth Explorer family of satellites within the Agency’s Living Planet Programme, it is aiming at a better understanding of the Earth system. The mission objective of GOCE is the determination of the Earth’s gravity field and geoid with high accuracy and maximum spatial resolution. The geoid, combined with the de facto mean ocean surface derived from twenty-odd years of satellite radar altimetry, yields the global dynamic ocean topography. It serves ocean circulation and ocean transport studies and sea level research. GOCE geoid heights allow the conversion of global positioning system (GPS) heights to high precision heights above sea level. Gravity anomalies and also gravity gradients from GOCE are used for gravity-to-density inversion and in particular for studies of the Earth’s lithosphere and upper mantle. GOCE is the first-ever satellite to carry a gravitational gradiometer, and in order to achieve its challenging mission objectives the satellite embarks a number of world-first technologies. In essence the spacecraft together with its sensors can be regarded as a spaceborne gravimeter. In this work, we describe the mission and the way it is operated and exploited in order to make available the best-possible measurements of the Earth gravity field. The main lessons learned from the first 19 months in orbit are also provided, in as far as they affect the quality of the science data products and therefore are of specific interest for GOCE data users.
