[Termes IGN] télédétection spatialeRésumé : (Auteur) This article explores the possibility to exploit global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) signals to obtain radar imagery of ships. This is a new application area for the GNSS remote sensing, which adds to a rich line of research about the alternative utilization of navigation satellites for remote sensing purposes, which currently includes reflectometry, passive radar, and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems. In the field of short-range maritime surveillance, GNSS-based passive radar has already proven to detect and localize ship targets of interest. The possibility to obtain meaningful radar images of observed vessels would represent an additional benefit, opening the doors to noncooperative ship classification capability with this technology. To this purpose, a proper processing chain is here conceived and developed, able to achieve well-focused images of ships while maximizing their signal-to-background ratio. Moreover, the scaling factors needed to map the backscatter energy in the range and cross-range domain are also analytically derived, enabling the estimation of the length of the target. The effectiveness of the proposed approach at obtaining radar images of ship targets and extracting relevant features is confirmed via an experimental campaign, comprising multiple Galileo satellites and a commercial ferry undergoing different kinds of motion. [Termes IGN] trajet multipleRésumé : (auteur) The tightly coupled global navigation satellite system (GNSS) precise point positioning (PPP) and inertial navigation system (INS) can provide high-precision position, velocity and attitude information. The coupled system utilizes single receiver, which is particularly suitable for the environment without reference station, such as marine survey. In the former works, the integer ambiguity resolution of PPP/INS in terrestrial environment is researched. However, the GNSS observation is severely affected by the multipath effect in marine environment. In addition, the sideslip caused by wind and sea wave also impact float ambiguity estimation, consequently introducing difficulty for PPP ambiguity fixing. Therefore, the PPP/INS tightly coupled model with fixed ambiguity is proposed for marine survey. The correction model of INS gyroscope bias in closed-loop is deduced in detail. The influence of ship motion noise and multipath in marine environment is reduced by introducing the robust factor to the Kalman filter. The feasibility of the method is verified in a real marine experiment, with a detail evaluation of the data quality and positioning accuracy. The results show that the accuracy of PPP/INS can reach centimeter level after fixing the ambiguity in marine environment. Furthermore, the precise INS-predicted position can significantly shorten the re-fixed time of PPP/INS, which proves the efficiency of the proposed approach. [Termes IGN] Vienne (capitale Autriche)Résumé : (auteur) We present a comprehensive methodological framework for structural deformation monitoring of critical infrastructure assets based on differential SAR interferometry. By employing persistent scatterer interferometry, deformation time series in line-of-sight are derived from freely available Sentinel-1 single look complex products. These raw time series are analysed and refined using an extensive post-processing chain to obtain daily rates for vertical and horizontal deformation components. The post-processing includes cleaning, smoothing and a temperature correction to account for different sensing times in ascending and descending orbits. Longitudinal clustering of time series is used to reveal spatial patterns in the single epoch deformation series. Seasonal trend decomposition of the aggregated time series is performed to separate deformation trends from seasonal deformations. The applicability of the framework is showcased at the example of an integral concrete bridge located in the port of Vienna. Results are validated against in situ deformation measurements. The presented framework constitutes a blueprint for the continuous monitoring of critical infrastructure assets using satellite interferometry, which may supplement conventional structural health monitoring. [Termes IGN] télédétection en hyperfréquenceRésumé : (auteur) VIPR (vapor in-cloud profiling radar) is a tunable G-band radar designed for humidity and cloud remote sensing. VIPR uses all-solid-state components and operates in a frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar mode, offering a transmit power of 200–300 mW. Its typical chirp bandwidth of 10 MHz over a center-frequency tuning span of 167–174.8 GHz results in a nominal range resolution of 15 m. The radar’s measured noise figure over the transmit band is between 7.4 and 10.4 dB, depending on its frequency and hardware configuration, and its calculated antenna gain is 58 dB. These parameters mean that with typical 1 ms chirp times, single-pulse cloud reflectivities as low as −26 dBZ are detectable with unity signal-to-noise at 5 km. Experimentally, radar returns from ice clouds above 10 km in height have been observed from the ground. VIPR’s absolute sensitivity was validated using a spherical metal target in the radar antenna’s far-field, and a G-band switch has been implemented in an RF calibration loop for periodic recalibration. The radar achieves high sensitivity with thermal noise limited detection both by virtue of its low-noise RF architecture and by using a quasioptical duplexing method that preserves ultrahigh transmit/receive isolation despite operation in an FMCW mode with a single primary antenna shared by the transmitter and receiver. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) Accurate and robust positioning of vehicles in urban environments is of high importance for autonomous driving or mobile mapping. In mobile mapping systems, a simultaneous mapping of the environment using laser scanning and an accurate positioning using global navigation satellite systems are targeted. This requirement is often not guaranteed in shadowed cities where global navigation satellite system signals are usually disturbed, weak or even unavailable. We propose a novel approach which incorporates prior knowledge (i.e., a 3D city model of the environment) and improves the trajectory. The recorded point cloud is matched with the semantic city model using a point‐to‐plane iterative closest point method. A pre‐classification step enables an informed sampling of appropriate matching points. Random forest is used as classifier to discriminate between facade and remaining points. Local inconsistencies are tackled by a segmentwise partitioning of the point cloud where an interpolation guarantees a seamless transition between the segments. The general applicability of the method implemented is demonstrated on an inner‐city data set recorded with a mobile mapping system.
