[Termes IGN] trilatérationRésumé : (Auteur) Catadioptric cameras broaden the field of view and reveal otherwise occluded object parts. They differ geometrically from central-perspective cameras because of light reflection from the mirror surface. To handle these effects, we present new pose-estimation and reconstruction models for imaging through spherical mirrors. We derive a closed-form equivalent to the collinearity principle via which three methods are established to estimate the system parameters: a resection-based one, a trilateration-based one that introduces novel constraints that enhance accuracy, and a direct and linear transform-based one. The estimated system parameters exhibit improved accuracy compared to the state of the art, and analysis shows intrinsic robustness to the presence of a high fraction of outliers. We then show that 3D point reconstruction can be performed at accurate levels. Thus, we provide an in-depth look into the geometrical modeling of spherical catadioptric systems and practical enhancements of accuracies and requirements to reach them. [Termes IGN] prise de vue aérienneRésumé : (auteur) Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) are increasingly used for topographic mapping. The camera calibration for UAV image blocks can be performed a priori or during the bundle block adjustment (self-calibration). For an area of interest with flat scene and corridor configuration, the focal length of camera is highly correlated with the height of the camera. Furthermore, systematic errors of camera calibration accumulate on the longer dimension and cause deformation. Therefore, special precautions must be taken when estimating camera calibration parameters. In order to better investigate the impact of camera calibration errors, a synthetic, error-free aerial image block is generated to simulate several issues of interest. Firstly, the erroneous focal length in the case of camera pre-calibration is studied. Nadir images are not able to prevent camera poses from drifting to compensate for the erroneous focal length, whereas the inclusion of oblique images brings significant improvement. Secondly, the case where the focal length varies gradually (e.g., when the camera subject to temperature changes) is investigated. The neglect of this phenomenon can substantially degrade the 3D measurement accuracy. Different flight configurations and flight orders are analyzed, the combination of oblique and nadir images shows better performance. At last, the rolling shutter effect is investigated. The influence of camera rotational motion on the final accuracy is negligible compared to that of the translational motion. The acquisition configurations investigated are not able to mitigate the degradation introduced by the rolling shutter effect. Other solutions such as correcting image measurements or including camera motion parameters in the bundle block adjustment should be exploited. This is in particular true for autonomous systems, for which controlling the position error is a critical safety issue. To this end, they are endowed with various sensors, the data of which are fused to obtain an estimate of the vehicle’s location, either globally (with the GPS for instance), or locally, with respect to its surroundings (with cameras for instance). This thesis investigates algorithms for localisation by sensor fusion, namely filtering and especially smoothing, when the mobile is equipped with high-grade inertial sensors. The first part deals with the nonlinear consequences of the use of high-grade inertial sensors, and demonstrates how the nonlinear structure of both filtering and smoothing algorithms may be improved by leveraging the invariant filtering framework. The second part deals with the problems incurred by the linear solvers that are used at each step of nonlinear smoothing algorithms as a result of having highly precise sensors. It introduces a novel least-squares linear solver that solves the issues. Note de contenu : Introduction

[Termes IGN] télémètre laser terrestreRésumé : (auteur) Highly accurate digital surface models are an essential part of change-over-time analyses for monitoring erosion processes. Streambank topography presents a unique challenge for surface mapping due to dense riparian vegetation, canopy cover, and rapidly changing elevation values. The spatial heterogeneity of stream corridors has made the calculation of streambank erosion across larger spatial extents difficult. Contemporary technologies such as terrestrial laser scanners (TLS) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) offer new approaches for streambank topography mapping at very high spatial resolutions across varying spatial extents. To evaluate the accuracy of different technologies for streambank topography mapping, we compared streambank surface models derived via a UAV using structure-from-motion and from traditional aerial photogrammetry (i.e. Southwestern Ontario Orthoimagery Project; SWOOP) to that of a TLS benchmark across seven streambank segments. Additional comparisons were made for 22 manually measured stream transects to that of a TLS benchmark. Compared to our benchmark, the UAV-derived streambank surface model was the most accurate with an average root-mean-square-error of 0.104 m. Errors in the UAV surface model were correlated with georeferencing error. The UAV had an average 52% success rate for reconstructing the streambank topography across all field campaigns and was able to map up to 2037 m of streambank in one hour. The streambank surface model derived from traditional aerial photogrammetry and manual transect measurements had average root-mean-square-errors of 0.238 m and 0.274 m respectively. Both aerially-derived surface models tended to over measure elevation values compared to the TLS, whereas manual transect measurements consistently under measured elevation.
