[Vedettes matières IGN] Ecologie forestièreRésumé : (auteur) The long-term resilience of Pyrenean forests in the face of historical anthropogenic clearing remains largely unknown. In this paper, a high-resolution (decadal to subdecadal) paleoecological study of mid-elevation Pyrenean forests is presented that encompasses the last two millennia. This long-term record was obtained after sediment coring, dating (varve counting) and pollen analysis of annually laminated (varved) sediments from Lake Montcortès, situated at 1027 m elevation, in the transition between the Mediterranean and montane forest belts. This allowed the definition of three major deforestation/recovery cycles during the Roman, Medieval and Modern times. Each DR cycle is characterized considering three different levels: overall forest trends, forest type and individual taxa. Overall, the studied forests exhibited high resilience, as they recovered almost completely after each deforestation event (bulk resilience). The critical point of no return (tipping point) beyond which forests would have irreversibly disappeared from the region was never reached, even after deforestation magnitudes above 60%. The different forest types identified (conifer, sclerophyll and deciduous) persisted over time, showing similar heterogeneous patterns with minor spatial reorganizations (mosaic resilience). Individually, the main forest taxa underwent minor variations in their relative abundances, always within the same attraction domains (community resilience). The high levels of resilience documented in these Pyrenean forests are attributed to the action of metapopulation and metacommunity processes and mechanisms in a highly dynamic patchy environment. Conservation actions should be focused on the maintenance of these spatial patterns and the associated ecological dynamics. [Termes IGN] tectonique des plaquesRésumé : (auteur) We present an overall analysis of the recent seismic activity occurred in the Adriatic Sea region, a strongly debated sector of the Mediterranean area, where several authors have proposed different models of plate configuration and kinematics. In the past, seismic investigations of this marine area have been strongly hampered by non-optimal network geometries, but data quality increase and recent methodological improvements lay the groundwork to attempt more accurate analyses including proper evaluations of result reliability. On these grounds, we investigated the seismic activity of the last decades by means of new hypocenter locations, waveform inversion focal mechanisms and seismogenic stress fields. We used the Bayloc non-linear probabilistic algorithm to compute hypocenter locations for the most relevant seismic sequences by carefully evaluating location quality and seismolineaments reliability. We also provided an updated database of waveform inversion focal mechanisms including original solutions estimated by applying the waveform inversion method Cut And Paste and data available from official catalogs. Then, focal mechanism solutions have been used to estimate seismogenic stress fields through different inversion algorithms. Seismic results indicate a relevant degree of fragmentation and different patterns of deformation in the Central Adriatic region. In particular, our analyses depicted two NW-SE oriented, adjacent volumes: (i) a pure compressive domain with NNE-trending axis of maximum compression characterizes the northeastern volume where the seismic activity occurs on W-to-NW oriented seismic sources; (ii) a transpressive domain with NW-trending axis of maximum compression characterizes the southwestern sector where thrust faulting preferentially occurs on ENE-to-NE oriented planes and strike-slip faulting on E-W ones. Joint evaluation of seismic findings of the present study and kinematic models proposed in the literature indicates just in the Central Adriatic region the presence of a broad deformation zone, accommodating a still evolving fragmentation of the Adriatic domain in two blocks rotating in opposite directions. On these grounds, the obtained results not only furnish new seismological evidence supporting the "two-blocks model" proposed by previous authors, but they also provide additional constraints, useful for better understanding and modeling the seismotectonic processes occurring in the Adriatic region. In such situations, objects are mainly characterized by their vertical axis, and the use of native 3D data such as 3D Point Clouds (PCs) is, in general, preferred to rasterized versions because of significant loss of information implied by any rasterization process. Yet, for obvious practical reasons, most existing studies only focus on 2D images for change detection purpose. In this paper, we propose a method capable of performing change detection directly within 3D data. Despite recent deep learning developments in remote sensing, to the best of our knowledge there is no such method to tackle multi-class change segmentation that directly processes raw 3D PCs. Thereby, based on advances in deep learning for change detection in 2D images and for analysis of 3D point clouds, we propose a deep Siamese KPConv network that deals with raw 3D PCs to perform change detection and categorization in a single step. Experimental results are conducted on synthetic and real data of various kinds (LiDAR, multi-sensors). Tests performed on simulated low density LiDAR and multi-sensor datasets show that our proposed method can obtain up to 80% of mean of IoU over classes of changes, leading to an improvement ranging from 10% to 30% over the state-of-the-art. A similar range of improvements is attainable on real data. Then, we show that pre-training Siamese KPConv on simulated PCs allows us to greatly reduce (more than 3,000
) the annotations required on real data. This is a highly significant result to deal with practical scenarios. Finally, an adaptation of Siamese KPConv is realized to deal with change classification at PC scale. Our network overtakes the current state-of-the-art deep learning method by 23% and 15% of mean of IoU when assessed on synthetic and public Change3D datasets, respectively. [Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) Interest in mixed forests is increasing since they could provide higher benefits and positive externalities compared to monocultures, although their management is more complex and silvicultural prescriptions for them are still scarce. Growth simulations are a powerful tool for developing useful guidelines for mixed stands. Heureka and Motti are two decision support systems commonly used for forest management in Sweden and Finland respectively. They were developed mostly with data from pure stands, so how they would perform in mixed stands is currently uncertain. We compiled a large and updated common database of well-replicated experimental research sites and monitoring networks composed by 218 and 1,160 plot-level observations of mixed stands from Sweden and Finland, respectively. We aimed to evaluated the accuracy of Heureka and Motti basal area growth models in those mixed-species stands and to detect any bias in their short-term predictions. Basal area growth simulations (excluding mortality models) were compared to observed stand-level values in a period-wise process with update of the start values in each period. The residual plots were visually examined for different stand mixtures: Norway spruce (Picea abies Karst.)-birch (Betula spp), Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.)-birch and Scots pine-Norway spruce. We observed that the basal area growth models in both decision support systems performed quite well for all mixtures regardless of the proportion of species. Motti simulations overestimated growth in Scots pine-Norway spruce mixtures by 0.063 m2·ha−1·year−1 which may be acceptable for practical use. Therefore, we corroborated that both decision support systems can be currently utilized for short-term forest growth simulation of mixed boreal forests. [Termes IGN] transformation rapide de FourierRésumé : (auteur) In this paper, we examine the properties of the radial distance which has been used as a tool to compare the shape of simple surfacic objects. We give a rigorous definition of the radial distance and derive its theoretical properties, and in particular under which conditions it satisfies the distance properties. We show how the computation of the radial distance can be implemented in practice and made faster by the use of an analytical formula and a Fast Fourier Transform. Finally, we conduct experiments to measure how the radial distance is impacted by perturbation and generalization and we give abacuses and thresholds to deduce when buildings are likely to be homologous or non-homologous given their radial distance.
