[Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) Spatially balanced sampling is the most efficient design for surveying continuous or spatial populations across space. The spatial sampling of large-scale surveys is mostly based on grids, whose properties drive, and potentially limit, the possibilities of building flexible samples. Conciliating spatial balance and flexibility remains difficult. In particular, periodicity causes high constraints to the sampling particularly when an increase in the frequency of the information delivery is sought. Sampling stratification of adaptive sampling intensity also conflicts the grid-based approach. We show that square grids have geometric homothetic properties that enable to answer these needs by supporting nested hierarchical subgrid sets. These properties can be exploited to cope with both spatial flexibility in the sampling effort and spatio-temporal coordination of samples. Whereas some surveys seemingly do exploit these properties practically across the world, no formal development has been made available in the survey sampling literature across fields of applications. Here we therefore define and demonstrate these properties, and show how they can be used to produce nested hierarchical grids compatible with multiple periodicity values of interest to natural monitoring, and with adapting sampling intensity across space and time. We also provide an original extension of this framework, intended to tune the sampling effort gradually while preserving spatial systematicity. We use the French National Forest Inventory survey to illustrate these properties and their use in a large-scale repeated inventory. We show the flexibility and diversity of sampling schemes that can be initiated with square grids and the limits of their use. [Termes IGN] vulnérabilitéRésumé : (auteur) Ischia Island is a volcano-tectonic horst in the Phlegrean Volcanic District, Italy. We investigated rockfalls in Ischia using STONE, a three-dimensional model for simulating trajectories for given detachment locations of blocks. We propose methodological advances regarding the use of high-resolution LiDAR elevation data, the localization of possible detachments sources, and the inclusion of scenario-based seismic shaking as a trigger for rockfalls. We demonstrated that raw LiDAR data are useful to distinguish areas covered by tall vegetation, allowing realistic simulation of trajectories. We found that the areas most susceptibile to rockfalls are located along the N, N-W and S-W steep flanks of Mt. Epomeo, the S and S-W coast, and the sides of some steep exposed hydrographic channels located in the southern sector of the island. A novel procedure for dynamic activation of sources depending on ground shaking, in the event of an earthquake, helped inferring a seismically-triggered source map and the corresponding rockfall trajectories, for a scenario with 475 y return time. Thus, we obtained preliminary rockfall suceptibility in Ischia both in a “static” (trigger-independent) scenario, and in a seismic shaking triggering scenario. They must not be considered a risk map, but a starting point for a detailed field analysis. Comment représenter spatialement et temporellement une donnée dans une unique géovisualisation. En d’autres termes, comment sur une carte est-il possible de visualiser des données possédant une position géographique (des coordonnées) et une position dans le temps (une date). Et plus généralement, dans le cadre de la pandémie, comment utiliser la géovisualisation pour analyser les dynamiques d’une telle épidémie. L’équipe GEOVIS du LASTIG a pris en main le sujet en proposant deux prototypes de visualisation spatio-temporelle via deux applications web en utilisant des données COVID-19 simulées. Un premier prototype vient représenter la donnée spatio-temporelle en deux dimensions et un second en trois dimensions. L’objectif est de créer une nouvelle visualisation qui permet de mixer ces deux méthodes. Cette application web en trois dimensions affiche les deux méthodes selon la position de l’utilisateur dans l’espace. Elle affiche aussi une méthode de visualisation hybride entre les deux prototypes. Créer cette application avec ces différents concepts va permettre d’avoir une nouvelle manière d’appréhender les données spatio-temporelles. Elles seront mises en valeur d’une manière inédite qui pourra améliorer l’analyse de ce type de données. Note de contenu : Introduction

[Termes IGN] TaïwanRésumé : (auteur) The cadastral detail data is used for overlap analysis with digitized graphic cadastral maps to solve the problem of inconsistencies between cadastral maps and the current land situation. This study investigated the feasibility of a handheld LiDAR scanner to collect 3D point clouds in an efficient way for a detail survey in urban environments with narrow and winding streets. Then, urban detail point clouds were collected by the handheld LiDAR scanner. After point cloud filtering and the ranging systematic error correction that was determined by a plane-based calibration method, the collected point clouds were transformed to the TWD97 cadastral coordinate system using control points. The land detail line data were artificially digitized and the results showed that about 97% error of the digitized detail positions was less than 15 cm compared to the check points surveyed by a total station. The results demonstrated the feasibility of using a handheld LiDAR scanner to perform an urban cadastral detail survey in digitized graphic areas. Therefore, the handheld LiDAR scanner could be used for the production of the detail lines for urban cadastral detail surveying for digitized cadastral areas in Taiwan. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Increase in forest disturbance due to land use as well as climate change has led to an expansion of young forests worldwide, which drives global carbon dynamics and timber allocation. This study presents a method that combines a single airborne LiDAR acquisition and time since harvest maps to model height growth of post-logged black spruce-dominated forests in a 1700 km2 eastern Canadian boreal landscape. We developed a random forest model in which forest height at a 20 m × 20 m pixel resolution is a function of stand age, combined with environmental variables (e.g., slope, site moisture, surface deposit). Our results highlight the model's strong predictive power: least-square regression between predicted and observed height of our validation dataset was very close to the 1:1 relation and strongly supported by validation metrics (R2 = 0.74; relative RMSE = 19%). Environmental variables thus allowed to accurately predict forest productivity with a high spatial resolution (20 m × 20 m pixels) and predicted forest height growth in the first 50 years after logging ranged between 16 and 27 cm·year−1 across the whole study area, with a mean of 20.5 cm·year−1. The spatial patterns of potential height growth were strongly linked to the effect of topographical variables, with better growth rates on mesic slopes compared to poorly drained soils. Such models could have key implications in forest management, for example to maintain forest ecosystem services by adjusting the harvesting rates depending on forest productivity across the landscapes.
