[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Building function type is an important parameter for urban planning and disaster management. However, existing identification methods do not always correctly recognize all building functions because of missing point of interest (POI) data in private areas. In this study, we proposed a hierarchical data-mining model to identify building function types using accessible auxiliary data, which was then applied to a case study. Residential building property was assessed to address missing residential POIs. The building functions were assigned to one of five different types, or a mixed-function type. Standard deviation and mean values extracted from remotely sensed images, distances to major roads, and building shape parameters were used to infer the function types of buildings without assigned function types. The proposed model was able to identify 65% of buildings not previously assigned as residential through the POI, with an overall accuracy of 87%. In addition, all buildings were successfully assigned a function type of residential, commercial, office, warehouse, public service, or mixed-function, with an overall accuracy of 85% for unclassified buildings. Our results demonstrated that missing POI data in private areas could be addressed by integration with multisource data using a simple method. [Termes IGN] niveau de gris (image)Résumé : (auteur) An image recognition and classification method based on fusion color and textural features was studied. Firstly, the suspected forest fire region was segmented via the fusion RGB-YCbCr color spaces. Then, 10 kinds of textural features were extracted by a local binary pattern (LBP) algorithm and 4 kinds of textural features were extracted by a gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) algorithm from the suspected fire region. In terms of its application, a database of the forest fire textural feature vector of three scenes was constructed, including forest images without fire, forest images with fire, and forest images with fire-like interference. The existence of forest fires can be recognized based on the database via a support vector machine (SVM). The results showed that the method’s recognition rate for forest fires reached 93.15% and that it had a strong robustness with respect to distinguishing fire-like interference, which provides a more effective scheme for forest fire recognition. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) The challenges for sustainable cities to protect the environment, ensure economic growth, and maintain social justice have been widely recognized. Along with the digitization, availability of large datasets, Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are promising to revolutionize the way we analyze and plan urban areas, opening new opportunities for the sustainable city agenda. Especially urban spatial planning problems can benefit from ML approaches, leading to an increasing number of ML publications across different domains. What is missing is an overview of the most prominent domains in spatial urban ML along with a mapping of specific applied approaches. This paper aims to address this gap and guide researchers in the field of urban science and spatial data analysis to the most used methods and unexplored research gaps. We present a scoping review of ML studies that used geospatial data to analyze urban areas. Our review focuses on revealing the most prominent topics, data sources, ML methods and approaches to parameter selection. Furthermore, we determine the most prominent patterns and challenges in the use of ML. Through our analysis, we identify knowledge gaps in ML methods for spatial data science and data specifications to guide future research. [Termes IGN] surveillance géologiqueRésumé : (auteur) The Planet PlanetScope (PS) CubeSat constellation acquires high-resolution optical images that cover the entire surface of the Earth daily, enabling an unprecedented capability to monitor the Earth’s surface changes. However, our analysis reveals artifacts of the geometry of PS images related to the imaging system and processing issues, limiting the usability of these data for various Earth science applications, including the monitoring of glaciers, dune motion, or the measurement of ground deformation due to earthquakes and landslides. Here, we analyze these artifacts and propose ways to remediate them. We use two examples to evaluate the data and assess the performance of our proposed approaches. The first is the ground deformation caused by the 2019 Ridgecrest earthquake sequence, California, USA, and the second is the 2018–2019 surge of the Shisper glacier in the Karakorum. Using an image correlation technique, we show that PS images exhibit several geometric artifacts, such as scene-to-scene misregistration, inconsistence geolocation accuracy between spectral bands, and topographic artifacts. Altogether, these artifacts make a quantitative analysis of ground displacement difficult and inaccurate. We present a method that remediates most of these geometric artifacts. In addition, we propose a framework for selecting the most appropriate images and a procedure for refining the rational function model (RFM) of unrectified images to monitor surface displacements and topography changes in 3-D. These tools should enhance the use of PS images for Earth science applications. [Termes IGN] réseau antagoniste génératifRésumé : (auteur) Deep learning methods are typically data-hungry and require many labelled samples. Unfortunately, the amount of effort required to label the data has significantly hindered the application of deep learning methods, especially in 3D modelling tasks requiring heterogeneous samples. This paper proposes a semi-supervised adversarial recognition strategy embedded in the inverse procedural modelling engine to reduce data annotation costs for learning to model 3D façades. Beginning with textured level-of-details models, we use convolutional neural networks to recognise the types and estimate the parameters of windows from image patches. The window types and parameters are then assembled into the procedural grammar. A simple procedural engine is built inside off-the-shelf 3D modelling software, producing fine-grained window geometries. To obtain a useful model from a few labelled samples, we leverage a generative adversarial network to train the feature extractor in a semi-supervised manner. The adversarial training strategy exploits the unlabelled data to stabilise the training phase. Experiments using publicly available façade image datasets reveal that the proposed methods can improve classification accuracy and parameter estimation by approximately 10% and 50%, respectively, under the same network structure. In addition, performance gains are more pronounced when testing against unseen data featuring different façade styles.
