[Termes IGN] zone d'intérêtIndex. décimale : THESE Thèses et HDR Résumé : (auteur) Building reliable environment perception systems is a crucial task for autonomous driving, especially in dense traffic areas. Researching in this field is evolving increasingly. However, we are at the beginning of a research pathway towards a future generation of intelligent transportation systems. In fact, challenging conditions in real-world driving circumstances, infrastructure monitoring, and accurate real-time system response, are the predominant concerns when developing such systems. Recent improvements and breakthroughs in scene understanding for intelligent transportation systems have been mainly based on deep learning and the fusion of different modalities. In this context, firstly, we introduce OLIMP : A heterOgeneous MuLtimodal Dataset for Advanced EnvIronMent Perception . This is the first public, multimodal and synchronized dataset that includes Ultra Wide-Band (UWB) radar data, acoustic data, narrowband radar data and images. OLIMP comprises 407 scenes and 47,354 synchronized frames, including four categories: pedestrians, cyclists, cars and trams. The dataset presents various challenges related to dense urban traffic such as cluttered environments and differentweather conditions. To demonstrate the usefulness of the introduced dataset, we propose, afterwards, a fusion framework that combines the four modalities for multi object detection. The obtained results are promising and spur for future research. In short range settings, UWB radars represent a promising technology for building reliable obstacle detection systems as they are robust to environmental conditions. However, UWB radars suffer from a segmentation challenge: localizing relevant Regions Of Interests (ROIs) within its signals. Therefore, we put froward a segmentation approach to detect ROIs in an environment perception-dedicated UWB radar as a third contribution. Specifically, we implement a differential entropy analysis to detect ROIs. The obtained results show higher performance in terms of obstacle detection compared to state-of-theart techniques, as well as stable robustness even with low amplitude signals. Subsequently, we propose a novel framework that exploits Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) with UWB signals for multiple road obstacle detection as a deep learning-based approach. Features are extracted from the time-frequency domain using the discrete wavelet transform and are forwarded to the Long short-term memory (LSTM) network. The obtained results show that the LSTM-based system outperforms the other implemented related techniques in terms of obstacle detection. Note de contenu : 1- Introduction

[Termes IGN] vulnérabilitéRésumé : (auteur) Forest fires are one of the most frequently occurring natural hazards, causing substantial economic loss and destruction of forest cover. As the Gangwon-do region in Korea has abundant forest resources and ecological diversity as Korea's largest forest area, spatial data on forest fire susceptibility of the region are urgently required. In this study, a forest fire susceptibility map (FFSM) of Gangwon-do was constructed using Google Earth Engine (GEE) and three machine learning algorithms: Classification and Regression Trees (CART), Random Forest (RF), and Boosted Regression Trees (BRT). The factors related to climate, topography, hydrology, and human activity were constructed. To verify the accuracy, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was used. The AUC values were 0.846 (BRT), 0.835 (RF), 0.751 (CART). Factor importance analysis was performed to identify the important factors of the occurrence of forest fires in Gangwon-do. The results show that the most important factor in the Gangwon-do region is slope. A slope of approximately 17° (moderately steep) has a considerable impact on the occurrence of forest fires. Human activity and interference are the other important factors that affect forest fires. The established FFSM can support future efforts on forest resource protection and environmental management planning in Gangwon-do. [Termes IGN] traitement du langage naturelRésumé : (auteur) Natural language descriptions of geographical locations are used frequently in daily life and there is a motivation to create systems that generate such descriptions automatically, for purposes such as documentation of where events have taken place, where a person is located, where photos were taken and where plants and animals are located. Typically location descriptions combine references to named geographical features with vague spatial relational terms, such as near, north of and at that relate locations to the features. Here we describe a system for generating location descriptions, that combines spatial templates, that model the applicability of different spatial relations relative to a reference location, with toponyms in the vicinity of the described location that are selected according to aspects of salience. The toponyms are retrieved from a gazetteer service based on OpenStreetMap for which we create a hierarchical feature classification scheme to facilitate selection of toponyms according to distinctiveness of their feature types and other aspects of salience. The advantages of the approach are demonstrated in a user study, relative to an existing state of the art system and to other baseline approaches that include manually created captions and the automated methods of two widely used photo captioning systems. Note de contenu : Introduction
