[Termes IGN] lever topographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) In this article, we look at one of the growing number of interfaces between non-expert users and GPS technology. It illustrates how a layperson can readily create some valueable maps using GPS, a task that wold been imposssible just a few years ago. It also illustrates that GPS is following the normal progression traversed by successful technologies as they develop from something that requires experts to operate to something from which the layperson can learn to easely benefit. [Termes IGN] sismologieRésumé : (Auteur) It is estimated that there are of the order of 500 000 detectable earthquakes in the world each year. About 100 000 of these can be felt by humans and more than on hudred of them cause damage. GPS has been employed for many years to assist seismological research through monitoring of the deformation of the Earth' s crust. The author discuss the question of wether GPS might be use to directly detect seismic waves.
