[Termes IGN] penteRésumé : (Auteur) In this experiment, we derive and compare radar stereo and interferometric digital elevation models (DEMs) of a study site in Djibouti, East Africa. A Radarsat stereo pair, as well as Radarsat and ERS-2 interferometric data, comprise the test images. The primary objective of the study was to analyse and compare the results obtained by the two techniques and explore possible synergisms between them. We find that in regions of high coherence, the DEMs produced by interferometry are of much better quality than the stereo result. However, the corresponding error histograms also show some pronounced errors due to decorrelation and phase-unwrapping problems on forested mountain slopes. On the other hand, the more robust stereo reconstruction, with an error standard deviation of 45m, is able to capture the general terrain shape, although finer ' surface details are lost. In the second part of our experiment, we demonstrate that merging the stereoscopic and interferometric DEMs by applying a user-defined weighting function to a filtered coherence map can significantly improve the accuracy of the computed elevation maps Numéro de notice : A2003-343 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1080/0143116031000115139 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1080/0143116031000115139 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=22638

[Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) An iterative filter that can be used for speckle reduction and restoration of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images is presented here. This method can be considered as a first step in the extraction of other important information. The second step is the detection of high-reflectance regions and continues with the segmentation of the total image. We have worked in three-look simulated and real European Remote Sensing 1 satellite amplitude images. The iterative filter is based on a membrane model Markov random field approximation optimized by a synchronous local iterative method. The final form of restoration gives a total sum-preserving regularization for the pixel values of our image. The high-reflectance regions are defined as the brightest regions of the restored image. After the separation of this extreme class, we give a fast segmentation method using the histogram of the restored image. [Termes IGN] restauration d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) This paper develops a knowledge discovery procedure for extracting knowledge of soil-landscape models from a soil map. It has broad relevance to knowledge discovery from other natural resource maps. The procedure consists of four major steps: data preparation, data preprocessing, pattern extraction, and knowledge consolidation. In order to recover true expert knowledge from the error-prone soil maps, our study pays specific attention to the reduction of representation noise in soil maps. The data preprocessing step has exhibited an important role in obtaining greater accuracy. A specific method for sampling pixels based on modes of environmental histograms has proven to be effective in terms of reducing noise and constructing representative sample sets. Three inductive learning algorithms, the See5 decision tree algorithm, Naïve Bayes, and artificial neural network, are investigated for a comparison concerning learning accuracy and result comprehensibility. See5 proves to be an accurate method and produces the most comprehensible results, which are consistent with the rules (expert knowledge) used in producing the soil map. The incorporation of spatial information into the knowledge discovery process is found not only to improve the accuracy of the extracted knowledge, but also to add to the explicitness and extensiveness of the extracted soil-landscape model. [Termes IGN] réseau routierRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we present some improvements to urban area characterization by means of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images using multitemporal and multiangle datasets. The first aim of this research is to show that a temporal sequence of satellite SAR data may improve the classification accuracy and the discriminability of land cover classes in an urban area. Similarly, a second point worth discussing is to what extent multiangle SAR data allows extracting complementary urban features, exploiting different acquisition geometries. To these aims, in this paper, we show results on the same urban test site (Pavia, northern Italy), referring to a sequence of European Remote Sensing Satellite 1/2 (ERS1/2) Cband images and to a set of simulated Xband data with a finer spatial resolution and different viewing angles. In particular, the multitemporal data is analyzed by means of a novel procedure based on a neurofuzzy classifier whose input is a subset of the ERS sequence chosen using the histogram distance index. Instead, the multiangle dataset is used to provide a better characterization of the road network in the area, overcoming effects due to the orientation of the SAR sensor. [Termes IGN] variogrammeRésumé : (Auteur) In single-band and single-polarized synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image classification, texture holds useful information. In a study to assess the map-updating capabilities of such sensors in urban areas, some modern texture measures were investigated. Among them were histogram measures, wavelet energy, fractal dimension, lacunarity, and semivariograms. The latter were chosen as an alternative for the well-known gray-level cooccurrence family of features. The area that was studied using a European Remote Sensing Satellite 1(ERS1) SAR image was the conurbation around Rotterdam and The Hague in The Netherlands. The area can be characterized as a well-planned dispersed urban area with residential areas, industry, greenhouses, pasture, arable land, and some forest. The digital map to be updated was a 1: 250 000 Vector Map (VMapl). The study was done on the basis of non-parametric separability measures and classification techniques because most texture distributions were not normal. The conclusion is that texture improves the classification accuracy. The measures that performed best were mean intensity (actually no texture), variance, weighted-rank fill ratio, and semivariogram, but the accuracies vary for different classes. Despite the improvement, the overall classification accuracy indicates that the land-cover information content of ERS1 leaves something to be desired.
