[Termes IGN] vision par ordinateurIndex. décimale : THESE Thèses et HDR Résumé : (auteur) Representing and reconstructing 3D deformable shapes are two tightly linked problems that have long been studied within the computer vision field. Deformable shapes are truly ubiquitous in the real world, whether be it specific object classes such as humans, garments and animals or more abstract ones such as generic materials deforming under stress caused by an external force. Truly practical computer vision algorithms must be able to understand the shapes of objects in the observed scenes to unlock the wide spectrum of much sought after applications ranging from virtual try-on to automated surgeries. Automatic shape reconstruction, however, is known to be an ill-posed problem, especially in the common scenario of a single image input. Therefore, the modern approaches rely on deep learning paradigm which has proven to be extremely effective even for the severely under-constrained computer vision problems. We, too, exploit the success of data-driven approaches, however, we also show that generic deep learning models can greatly benefit from being combined with explicit knowledge originating in traditional computational geometry. We analyze the use of various 3D shape representations for deformable object reconstruction and we distinctly focus on one of them, the atlas-based representation, which turns out to be especially suitable for modeling deformable shapes and which we further improve and extend to yield higher quality reconstructions. The atlas-based representation models the surfaces as an ensemble of continuous functions and thus allows for arbitrary resolution and analytical surface analysis. We identify major shortcomings of the base formulation, namely the infamous phenomena of patch collapse, patch overlap and arbitrarily strong mapping distortions, and we propose novel regularizers based on analytically computed properties of the reconstructed surfaces. Our approach counteracts the aforementioned drawbacks while yielding higher reconstruction accuracy in terms of surface normals on the tasks of single view-reconstruction, shape completion and point cloud auto-encoding. We dive into the problematics of atlas-based shape representation even deeper and focus on another pressing design flaw, the global inconsistency among the individual mappings. While the inconsistency is not reflected in the traditional reconstruction accuracy quantitative metrics, it is detrimental to the visual quality of the reconstructed surfaces. Specifically, we design loss functions encouraging intercommunication among the individual mappings which pushes the resulting surface towards a C1 smooth function. Our experiments on the tasks of single-view reconstruction and point cloud auto-encoding reveal that our method significantly improves the visual quality when compared to the baselines. Furthermore, we adapt the atlas-based representation and the related training procedure so that it could model a full sequence of a deforming object in a temporally-consistent way. In other words, the goal is to produce such reconstruction where each surface point always represents the same semantic point on the target ground-truth surface. To achieve such behavior, we note that if each surface point deforms close-to-isometrically, its semantic location likely remains unchanged. Practically, we make use of the Riemannian metric which is computed analytically on the surfaces, and force it to remain point-wise constant throughout the sequence. Our experimental results reveal that our method yields state-of-the-art results on the task of unsupervised dense shape correspondence estimation, while also improving the visual reconstruction quality. Finally, we look into a particular problem of monocular texture-less deformable shape reconstruction, an instance of the Shape-from-Shading problem. We propose a multi-task learning approach which takes an RGB image of an unknown object as the input and jointly produces a normal map, a depth map and a mesh corresponding to the observed part of the surface. We show that forcing the model to produce multiple different 3D representations of the same objects results in higher reconstruction quality. To train the network, we acquire a large real-world annotated dataset of texture-less deforming objects and we release it for public use. Finally, we prove through experiments that our approach outperforms a previous optimization based method on the single-view-reconstruction task. Note de contenu : 1- Introduction

[Termes IGN] qualité des donnéesRésumé : (auteur) The increase of recreational activities in the mountains and a growing amount of websites proposing geographic data, offer new opportunities for societal needs such as mountain rescue, biodiversity monitoring, outdoor activities. However, the main issue with the websites data is the lack of metadata that minimizes its reuse outside the community that produced the data. The goal of this paper is to study and generate quality and descriptive metadata using ISO standards. To this end, we propose a method based on a common vocabulary such as an ontology and a data matching process. The first one allows to associate to each type of feature from an available geographic dataset an ontology class that will facilitate data matching, reproducibility of results and minimize semantic heterogeneity. The second one allows to define matching links between features representing the same entity in the real world and compute quality indicators based on the validated links. Finally, at the end of this process, we are able to generate descriptive and quality metadata. By following ISO standards and using the QualityML dictionary for measures, the metadata is serialized to XML and can finally be published as open source. Our approach was applied to five different landmark datasets in the French Alps region. New insights were acquired regarding positional accuracy and semantic granularity. [Termes IGN] SURF (algorithme)Résumé : (Auteur) To register mobile mapping system (MMS) lidar points and panoramic-image sequences, a relative orientation model of panoramic images (PROM) is proposed. The PROM is suitable for cases in which attitude or orientation parameters are unknown in the panoramic-image sequence. First, feature points are extracted and matched from panoramic-image pairs using the SURF algorithm. Second, these matched feature points are used to solve the relative attitude parameters in the PROM. Then, combining the PROM with the absolute position and attitude parameters of the initial panoramic image, the MMS lidar points and panoramic-image sequence are registered. Finally, the registration accuracy of the PROM method is assessed using corresponding points manually selected from the MMS lidar points and panoramic-image sequence. The results show that three types of MMS data sources are registered accurately based on the proposed registration method. Our method transforms the registration of panoramic images and lidar points into image feature-point matching, which is suitable for diverse road scenes compared with existing methods. [Termes IGN] système d'information historiqueRésumé : (auteur) We collected 92,832 user-contributed and publicly available family trees from rootsweb.com, including 250 million individuals who were born in North America and Europe between 1630 and 1930. We cleaned and connected the family trees to create a population-scale and longitudinal family tree dataset using a workflow of data collection and cleaning, geocoding, fuzzy record linkage and a relation-based iterative search for connecting trees and deduplication of records. Given the largest connected component of nearly 40 million individuals, and a total of 80 million individuals, we generated, to date, the largest population-scale and longitudinal geo-social network over centuries. We evaluated the representativeness of the family tree dataset for historical population demography and mobility by comparing the data to the 1880 Census. Our results showed that the family trees were biased towards males, the elderly, farmers, and native-born white segments of the population. Individuals were highly mobile – in our 1880 sample of parent-child pairs where both were born in the U.S., 47% were born in different states. Our findings agreed with prior studies that people migrated from East to West in horizontal bands, and the trend was reflected in the dialects and regional structure of the U.S. Numéro de notice : A2021-876 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : GEOMATIQUE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1080/13658816.2020.1821885 Date de publication en ligne : 30/09/2020 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1080/13658816.2020.1821885 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=99139

[Termes IGN] modèle numérique de surfaceRésumé : (Auteur) [Introduction] ... We propose a fully automatic approach to computing robust inter-epoch feature correspondences. Our method consists of two steps: a rough co-registration by finding feature correspondences between DSMs (Digital Surface Model) derived within single epochs, and a precise feature matching on original RGB images. Our main contributions include:
- Rough-to-precise matching strategy that helps to drastically reduce ambiguity. In particular, we use the depth information to roughly co-register our epochs. The 3D landscape is globally stable over time and provides sufficient correspondences through time. Once co-registered, we levarage the 3D a priori to narrow down the search space in precise matching.
- Upscaling of the learning based feature matching algorithms to high resolution imagery. To do that, we introduced an image tiling scheme.
In the following we present the methodology and some experiments. If you are interested in using our method, please refer to the source code of MicMac Github 4, as well as 2 jupyter tutorials 5 6. We also provide an introduction video 7, slides 8 and project website 9. The datasets used in our publication 3 will be soon published in an open-access repository.
