[Termes IGN] monde (géographie politique)Résumé : (Auteur) Recent availability of geo-localized data capturing individual human activity together with the statistical data on international migration opened up unprecedented opportunities for a study on global mobility. In this paper, we consider it from the perspective of a multi-layer complex network, built using a combination of three datasets: Twitter, Flickr and official migration data. Those datasets provide different, but equally important insights on the global mobility – while the first two highlight short-term visits of people from one country to another, the last one – migration – shows the long-term mobility perspective, when people relocate for good. The main purpose of the paper is to emphasize importance of this multi-layer approach capturing both aspects of human mobility at the same time. On the one hand, we show that although the general properties of different layers of the global mobility network are similar, there are important quantitative differences among them. On the other hand, we demonstrate that consideration of mobility from a multi-layer perspective can reveal important global spatial patterns in a way more consistent with those observed in other available relevant sources of international connections, in comparison to the spatial structure inferred from each network layer taken separately. [Termes IGN] transport routierRésumé : (Auteur) Lately, the amount of mobility data recorded by GPS-enabled (and other) devices has increased drastically, entailing the necessity of efficient processing and analysis methods. In many cases, not only the geographic position, but also additional time-dependent information are traced and/or generated, according to the purpose of the evaluation. For example, in the field of animal behavior research, besides the position of the monitored animal, biologists are interested in further data like the altitude or the temperature at every measuring point. Other application domains comprise the names of streets, places of interest, or transportation modes that can be recorded along with the geographic position of a person. In this paper, we present in detail a framework for analyzing datasets with arbitrarily many time-dependent attributes. This can be considered as a major extension of our previous work, a comprehensive framework for pattern matching on symbolic trajectories with index support. For an efficient processing of different data types, a variable number of indexes of four different types that correspond to the data types of the attributes are applied. We demonstrate the expressiveness and efficiency of our approach by querying a real dataset representing taxi trips in Rome and, particularly, with a broad series of experiments using trajectories generated by BerlinMOD combined with geological raster data. [Termes IGN] valeur moyenneRésumé : (auteur) Linear feature matching is one of the crucial components for data conflation that sees its usefulness in updating existing data through the integration of newer data and in evaluating data accuracy. This article presents a simplified linear feature matching method to conflate historical and current road data. To measure the similarity, the shorter line median Hausdorff distance (SMHD), the absolute value of cosine similarity (aCS) of the weighted linear directional mean values, and topological relationships are adopted. The decision tree analysis is employed to derive thresholds for the SMHD and the aCS. To demonstrate the usefulness of the simple linear feature matching method, four models with incremental configurations are designed and tested: (1) Model 1: one-to-one matching based on the SMHD; (2) Model 2: matching with only the SMHD threshold; (3) Model 3: matching with the SMHD and the aCS thresholds; and (4) Model 4: matching with the SMHD, the aCS, and topological relationships. These experiments suggest that Model 2, which considers only distance, does not provide stable results, while Models 3 and 4, which consider direction and topological relationships, produce stable results with levels of accuracy around 90% and 95%, respectively. The results suggest that the proposed method is simple yet robust for linear feature matching. A level of tolerance is defined as an input parameter as some difference in the geometry representation of a spatial object is to be expected. The method generates matches between spatial objects using location information and lexical information, such as names and types, and verifies consistency of matches using reasoning in qualitative spatial and description logic. We test the method by matching geospatial data from OpenStreetMap and the national mapping agencies of Great Britain and France. We also analyze how the level of tolerance affects the precision and recall of matching results for the same geographic area using 12 different levels of tolerance within a range of 1 to 80 m. The generated matches show potential in helping enrich and update geospatial data. A key issue in image registration is to reliably establish the correspondences between the feature points extracted from the reference and sensed images. A new point matching algorithm is proposed in this paper to align two SAR images. In the proposed method, by considering image patches as the basic units, a novel local descriptor including the intensity and geometric information is assigned to each feature point, which is more robust to speckle noise. Furthermore, a correspondence establishment scheme is introduced based on the reconstruction errors between feature points calculated by the sparse representation (SR) technique, which is designed for achieving accurate matches. Based on the obtained SR coefficients, a coordinate correction procedure is further proposed for improving the localization accuracy of the obtained correspondences. Both simulated deformed and real SAR images are utilized to evaluate the performance. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method yields a better registration performance in terms of both accuracy and robustness.
