While many roads are used for both cars and bicycles, buffered bike lanes are marked for the safety of cyclists. In many cities, segregated paths are built up to have physical separation from motor vehicles. These types of biking ways are regarded as attributes in geographic information system (GIS) data. This information is required and important in the service of route planning, as cyclists may prefer certain types of bikeways. This paper presents a framework for generating networks of bikeways with attribute information from the data collected on the collaborative street view data platform Mapillary. The framework consists of two layers: The first layer focuses on constructing a bikeway road network using Global Positioning System (GPS) information of Mapillary images. Mapillary sequences are classified into walking, cycling, driving (ordinary road), and driving (motorway) trajectories based on the transportation mode with a trained XGBoost classifier. The bikeway road network is then extracted from cycling and driving (ordinary road) trajectories using a raster-based method. The second layer focuses on extracting attribute information from Mapillary images. Cycling-specific information (i.e., bicycle signs/markings) is extracted using a two-stage detection and classification model. A series of quantitative evaluations based on a case study demonstrated the ability and potential of the framework for extracting bikeway road information to enrich the existing OSM cycling road data. [Termes IGN] superposition de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) The registration of indoor and outdoor scans with a precision reaching the level of geometric noise represents a major challenge for Indoor/Outdoor building modeling. The basic idea of the contribution presented in this paper consists in extracting planar polygons from indoor and outdoor LiDAR scans, and then matching them. In order to cope with the very small overlap between indoor and outdoor scans of the same building, we propose to start by extracting points lying in the buildings’ interior from the outdoor scans as points where the laser ray crosses detected façades. Since, within a building environment, most of the objects are bounded by a planar surface, we propose a new registration algorithm that matches planar polygons by clustering polygons according to their normal direction, then by their offset in the normal direction. We use this clustering to find possible polygon correspondences (hypotheses) and estimate the optimal transformation for each hypothesis. Finally, a quality criteria is computed for each hypothesis in order to select the best one. To demonstrate the accuracy of our algorithm, we tested it on real data with a static indoor acquisition and a dynamic (Mobile Laser Scanning) outdoor acquisition. This study proposes a framework to estimate the quality of the VGI and to classify them based on the user’s need. For this purpose, a set of properties is defined to describe the data in various aspects. The principal component analysis (PCA) method is applied to reach a new set of uncorrelated indicators (UI). Volunteered data is classified based on the user’s need and takes a quality index (QI). UI and QI values are used to train the ANN. Finally, the trained ANN determines the output of the network in a way that returns QI using the UI as inputs. The proposed method was applied to estimate the quality classes of VGI in a part of an urban area. According to the results of the confusion matrix, the total accuracy of the proposed framework was 81.6%. [Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (auteur) This contribution proposes a workflow for a completely automatic orientation of historical terrestrial urban images. Automatic structure from motion (SfM) software packages often fail when applied to historical image pairs due to large radiometric and geometric differences causing challenges with feature extraction and reliable matching. As an innovative initialising step, the proposed method uses the neural network D2-Net for feature extraction and Lowe’s mutual nearest neighbour matcher. The principal distance for every camera is estimated using vanishing point detection. The results were compared to three state-of-the-art SfM workflows (Agisoft Metashape, Meshroom and COLMAP) with the proposed workflow outperforming the other SfM tools. The resulting camera orientation data are planned to be imported into a web and virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR) application for the purpose of knowledge transfer in cultural heritage. [Termes IGN] triangulationRésumé : (auteur) This paper outlines a new framework for the calibration of optical instruments, in particular smartphone cameras, using highly redundant circular black-and-white target fields. New methods were introduced for (i) matching targets between images; (ii) adjusting the systematic eccentricity error of target centres; and (iii) iteratively improving the calibration solution through a free-network self-calibrating bundle adjustment. The proposed method effectively matched circular targets in 270 smartphone images, taken within a calibration laboratory, with robustness to type II errors (false negatives). The proposed eccentricity adjustment, which requires only camera projective matrices from two views, behaved comparably to available closed-form solutions, which require additional a priori object-space target information. Finally, specifically for the case of mobile devices, the calibration parameters obtained using the framework were found to be superior compared to in situ calibration for estimating the 3D reconstructed radius of a mechanical pipe (approximately 45% improvement on average).
