[Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) The coastal zone, a highly dynamic and complex environment, has important ecological and jurisdictional implications for governments and coastal managers. Based on the CORINE Land Cover classification system, this paper examined the effects of land use and land cover change (LULC) on the coastlines' dynamics along the ∼24 km barrier island of Nador lagoon on the Mediterranean coast of Morocco during a period of 62 years (1954–2016). The study utilized high-resolution orthoimages in the geographic information system (GIS) environment to characterize coastline evolution and LULC changes. The evolution of the coastline was assessed using a GIS tool, in particular the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS). The net rates of coastline change were calculated by using statistical methods: the End Point Rate (EPR) and the Linear Regression Rate (LRR). Results concerning the LULC changes showed that agricultural area and beach/dune classes decreased over the entire study period (62 years) by 11.14% and 28.45%, respectively. Urban fabric, shrub, forest, and saltmarsh/peat bog classes increased during the 62 years of evaluation by 2.69%, 19.92%, 16.77%, and 0.19%, respectively. Results regarding coastal analysis indicated that the accretion and erosion processes along the barrier island of the Nador lagoon (∼24km) were observed at 45% (10.6 km) and 55% (12.8 km) of the coastline, respectively. The beaches of Oulad Zehra and Oulad Aissa were characterized by erosion (−0.58 m/yr to −0.57 m/yr respectively), while accretion was observed on the beaches of Boukana and Kariat Arkmane at rates of +2.15 m/yr and +0.82 m/yr, respectively. This study highlighted that natural and anthropogenic processes have a strong influence on the erosion/accretion trends identified along the barrier island of Nador lagoon. The changes in LULC have affected the barrier island of the lagoon in two different forms: (1) a significant spatial conversion due to dune reforestation and (2) a fundamental spatial modification that affects the sea-lagoon connection (inlet) and the construction of new hard engineering structures. [Termes IGN] ToulouseRésumé : (Auteur) The HYEP project (ANR HYEP 14-CE22-0016-01 Hyperspectral imagery for Environmental urban Planning - Mobility and Urban Systems Programme - 2014) confirmed the interest of a global approach to the urban environment by remote sensing and in particular by using hyperspectral imaging (HI). The interest of hyperspectral images lies in the range of information provided over wavelengths from 0.4 to 4 μm; they thus provide access to spectral quantities of interest and to chemical or biophysical parameters of the surface. HYEP's objective was to specify this and to propose a panel of methods and treatments taking into account the characteristics of other existing sensors in order to compare their performance. The developments carried out were applied and evaluated on hyperspectral airborne images acquired in Toulouse and Kaunas (Lithuania), also used to synthesize space systems: Sentinel-2, Hypxim/Biodiversity and Pleiades. Among the locks identified were those related to improving the spatial capabilities of the sensors and spatial scale changes, which were partially overcome by fusion and sharpening approaches, which proved to be successful. After a description of our hyperspectral data set acquired over Toulouse, an analysis is conducted on several existing and accessible spectral databases. Then, the chosen methods are presented. They include extraction, fusion and classification methods, which are then applied on our dataset synthetized at different spatial resolution to evaluate the benefits and the complementarity of hyperspectral imagery in comparison with other traditional sensors. Some specific applications are investigated of interest for urban planners: impervious soil map, vegetation species cartography and detection of solar panels. Finally, discussion and perspectives are presented. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) Rapid urbanization and population growth are the main problems faced by developing countries that lead to natural resource depletion in the periphery of the city. This research attempts to analyze the impacts of urban land use land cover (LULC) change on land surface temperature (LST) from 1991 to 2021 in Jimma city, southwestern Ethiopia. Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) 1991, Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM +) 2005, and Landsat-8 Operational land imagery (OLI)/Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) 2021 were used in this study. Multispectral bands and thermal infrared bands of Landsat images were used to calculate LULC change, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), normalized difference built-up index (NDBI), and LST. The LULC of the study area was classified using a supervised classification method with the maximum likelihood algorithm. The results of this study clearly showed that there is a negative correlation between vegetation cover and LST. The decrease in vegetation coverage and expansion of impervious surfaces lead to elevated LST in urban areas. The loss of vegetation cover contributed to the increasing trend of LST. Moreover, the conversion of vegetation cover to impervious surfaces aggravates the problem of LST. The results revealed that the built-up area was increased at a rate of 0.4 km2/year from 1991 to 2021. The vegetation cover in the city declined due to urban expansion to the periphery of the city. Consequently, the dense vegetation and sparse vegetation were converted into built-up areas by approximately 5.2 km2 during the study period. The mean LST of the study area increased by 10.3 °C from 1991 to 2021 during the winter season in daytime. To improve the problems of climate change around urban areas, all stakeholders should work together to increase the urban green space coverage, which will contribute a significant role in mitigating LST and the urban heat island effect. More specifically, all residents could be accessible to public green spaces around big cities. [Termes IGN] web sémantiqueRésumé : (auteur) Climate science has become more ambitious in recent years as global awareness about the environment has grown. To better understand climate, historical climate(e.g. archived meteorological variables such as temperature, wind, water, etc.) and climate-related data (e.g. geographical features and human activities) are widely used by today’s climate research to derive models for an explainable climate change and its effects. However, such data sources are often dispersed across a multitude of disconnected data silos on the Web. Moreover, there is a lack of advanced climate data platforms to enable multi-source heterogeneous climate data analysis, therefore, researchers must face a stern challenge in collecting and analyzing multi-source data. In this paper, we address this problem by proposing a climate knowledge graph for the integration of multiple climate data and other data sources into one service, leveraging Web technologies (e.g. HTTP) for multi-source climate data analysis. The proposed knowledge graph is primarily composed of data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s daily climate summaries, OpenStreetMap, and Wikidata, and it supports joint data queries on these widely used databases. This paper shows, with a use case in Ireland and the United Kingdom, how climate researchers could benefit from this platform as it allows them to easily integrate datasets from different domains and geographical locations. [Termes IGN] surface imperméableRésumé : (auteur) Impervious surface mapping is essential for urban environmental studies. Spectral Mixture Analysis (SMA) and its extensions are widely employed in impervious surface estimation from medium-resolution images. For SMA, inappropriate endmember combinations and inadequate endmember classes have been recognized as the primary reasons for estimation errors. Meanwhile, the spectral-only SMA, without considering urban spatial distribution, fails to consider spectral variability in an adequate manner. The lack of endmember class diversity and their spatial variations lead to over/underestimation. To mitigate these issues, this study integrates a hierarchical strategy and spatially varied endmember spectra to map impervious surface abundance, taking Wuhan and Wuzhou as two study areas. Specifically, the piecewise convex multiple-model endmember detection algorithm is applied to automatically hierarchize images into three regions, and distinct endmember combinations are independently developed in each region. Then, spatially varied endmember spectra are synthesized through neighboring spectra using the distance-based weight. Comparative analysis indicates that the proposed method achieves better performance than Hierarchical SMA and Fixed Four-endmembers SMA in terms of MAE, SE, and RMSE. Further analysis suggests that the hierarchical strategy can expand endmember class types and considerably improve the performance for the study areas in general, specifically in less developed areas. Moreover, we find that spatially varied endmember spectra facilitate the reduction of heterogeneous surface material variations and achieve the improved performance in developed areas.
