Résumé : (auteur) Registration is one of the most important tasks in mobile laser scanning (MLS) point cloud processing. This paper firstly reviews existing target‐free matching techniques as well as methods to evaluate the quality of the registration. Next, a new error metric is introduced that takes into account the residuals of check planes as well as their orientation. Experiments using real datasets in combination with reference data were performed to evaluate the suitability of these metrics. The proposed error metric proved to be more suitable for evaluating the quality of point cloud registration than state‐of‐the‐art equivalents. The results also indicate that least squares plane fitting is the best technique for MLS point cloud registration. Consequently, the MLS point cloud contains positioning errors. This paper presents a new method for the automatic extraction of accurate 3D tie points for the trajectory adjustment of MLS platforms in GNSS denied or troubled areas. The new method relies on aerial imagery as a reliable external source of reference provided that accurate exterior orientation parameters are available. Accordingly, one of the main objectives is to register the mobile laser scanning point cloud with corresponding aerial images. The matches between aerial images are used to obtain 3D tie points by forward intersection. By also determining the corresponding locations in the point cloud we obtain a 3D-3D correspondence between the MLS point cloud and the aerial images. In the future, the obtained 3D-3D correspondences will be used for trajectory adjustment. Our automatic tie point extraction procedure is tested on two independent MLS point clouds. The point clouds were acquired by two different platforms in Rotterdam. The aerial imagery of the same area was acquired at a different time. We evaluated the matching results for both datasets and concluded that the new procedure reliably extracted the 3D tie points for 55% of the tiles of the size of 90 m from the first MLS dataset. In the second dataset, 60% of the tiles of size 74 m yielded reliable 3D tie points. It is not necessary to successfully register all tiles because the results of this work will be used for the trajectory adjustment and the IMU can reliably support the positioning for small intervals. Note de contenu : INTRODUCTION

[Termes IGN] modèle numérique de surfaceRésumé : (Auteur) Photogrammetrically derived Digital Surface Models have been widely adopted in geoscientific applications such as mapping and change detection across volcanic surfaces, glaciers, areas of seismic activity, forests, river landforms etc. Resolution of the reconstructed surface is crucial as more accurate information enables more profound understanding of the phenomena. With this objective in mind, the research presented here proposes a new matching cost function that produces surfaces of enhanced resolution with respect to the gold standard: the window-based semi-global matching technique. We evaluate the algorithm on different image datasets spanning various acquisition geometries, radiometric qualities and ground sample distance sizes. In particular , results on Earth satellites (SPOT-7, Pléiades), extraterres-trial (Chang'E3 moon landing), aerial and terrestrial acquisitions are shown. The implementation of the method is available in MicMac-the free open-source software for photogrammetry. I. INTRODUCTION Digital surface model (DSM or photogrammetric DSM) generation using dense image matching is an accepted technique across the geoscience communities. Next to other competitive techniques such as LiDAR or radar, image-based reconstruction produces denser 3D information, it is cost-effective and richer as it includes photometric observations that allow, for example, 3D change detection or classification. Photogrammetric DSMs in geoscience applications can be generated from terrestrial images, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) acquisitions or high-resolution optical satellite imaging. a) Terrestrial and UAV applications: Modelling of surface roughness parameters [1]; mapping volcanic surfaces [2]; and measuring glaciers' microrelief progression [3] are some of many examples of terrestrial applications carried out with consumer grade cameras and little expert knowledge. UAV-based surveys are increasingly presented as an alternative to terrestrial surveys due to their larger reach, their ease of deployment and reduced operational cost. With respect to resolution, UAV surveys are a compromise between high-resolution close-range and moderate-resolution satellite imaging. The success of the UAV technology is reflected in numerous publications which show that UAV-collected imagery can: enable modelling of forest canopy height [4]; determine the rate and extent of landslide movements [5]; quantify coastal erosion [6], [7] and deposition processes [8] in aeolian research; map ultrafine (i.e. centimetric) tectonic faults in tectonic research [9]; or be employed in repeated surveys of the ice-sheet masses in glaciology [10]. b) Earth satellite and extraterrestrial applications: With the available optical satellite data provided by modern (e.g. Pléiades 1A/B, SPOT-satellites, QuickBird, WorldView 2/3/4, CubeSat) or older satellites (e.g. CartoSat, ASTER), we can Numéro de notice : 26221 Affiliation des auteurs : LASTIG MATIS (2012-2019) Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Rapport de recherche nature-HAL : RappRech DOI : sans En ligne : https://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/hal-02371337 Format de la ressource électronique : URL Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=94223 Documents numériques

[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Mobile Mapping (MM) solutions have become a significant extension to traditional data acquisition methods over the last years. Independently from the sensor carried by a platform, may it be laser scanners or cameras, high-resolution data postings are opposing a poor absolute localisation accuracy in urban areas due to GNSS occlusions and multipath effects. Potentially inaccurate position estimations are propagated by IMUs which are furthermore prone to drift effects. Thus, reliable and accurate absolute positioning on a par with MM's high-quality data remains an open issue. Multiple and diverse approaches have shown promising potential to mitigate GNSS errors in urban areas, but cannot achieve decimetre accuracy, require manual effort, or have limitations with respect to costs and avail-ability. This paper presents a fully automatic approach to support the correction of MM imaging data based on correspondences with airborne nadir images. These correspondences can be employed to correct the MM plat-form's orientation by an adjustment solution. Unlike MM as such, aerial images do not suffer from GNSS oc-clusions, and their accuracy is usually verified by employing well-established methods using ground control points. However, a registration between MM and aerial images is a non-standard matching scenario, and requires several strategies to yield reliable and accurate correspondences. Scale, perspective and content strongly vary between both image sources, thus traditional feature matching methods may fail. To this end, the registration process is designed to focus on common and clearly distinguishable elements, such as road markings, manholes, or kerbstones. With a registration accuracy of about 98%, reliable tie information between MM and aerial data can be derived. Even though, the adjustment strategy is not covered in its entirety in this paper, accuracy results after adjustment will be presented. It will be shown that a decimetre accuracy is well achievable in a real data test scenari Numéro de notice : A2018-285 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1016/j.isprsjprs.2018.04.017 Date de publication en ligne : 30/04/2018 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1016/j.isprsjprs.2018.04.017 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=90397
