Firstly, a point-based method is presented, adapting conventional assessment methods whereby common points between datasets are compared. In our approach, initial matches are established automatically and refined further through interactive editing. Second, a line-based method which uses correspondences between line segments is proposed. Here, the geometry of line segments in vector is transformed into a set of rasterized values so that their combination at each pixel can restore their original vector geometry. Matching is performed on rasterized line segments and their matching lengths and displacements are measured. Experimental results show that the line-based approach proposed is efficient to evaluate the geometric quality of spatial data without requirements of topological relationships among line features. [Termes IGN] simulation PleiadesRésumé : (Auteur) Among all the issues involved in Geographic Information Science, automating the update of 2D building databases is a crucial and challenging issue. Such an update usually starts out with a manual change detection process. The main goal of this paper is to present a new method to automate the detection of changes in a 2D building database, starting from satellite images. The workflow of our approach is divided into 2 phases. Primitives, extracted from multiple images or from a correlation Digital Surface Model (DSM), are firstly collected for each building and matched with primitives derived from the existing database to achieve a final decision about acceptance or rejection. A specific algorithm, based on the DSM and a computed Digital Terrain Model (DTM), is subsequently used to extract new buildings. The method is here introduced and tested in two test areas, very different regarding the land use and topography. The out-comes of the method are assessed and show the good performance of our system, especially in terms of completeness, robustness and transferability. [Termes IGN] transformation élastiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Recent growth of geospatial information online has made it possible to access various maps and orthoimagery. Conflating these maps and imagery can create images that combine the visual appeal of imagery with the attribution information from maps. The existing systems require human intervention to conflate maps with imagery. We present a novel approach that utilizes vector datasets as “glue” to automatically conflate street maps with imagery. First, our approach extracts road intersections from imagery and maps as control points. Then, it aligns the two point sets by computing the matched point pattern. Finally, it aligns maps with imagery based on the matched pattern. The experiments show that our approach can conflate various maps with imagery, such that in our experiments on TIGER-maps covering part of St. Louis county, MO, 85.2% of the conflated map roads are within 10.8 m from the actual roads compared to 51.7% for the original and georeferenced TIGER-map roads.
