[Termes IGN] squelettisationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper proposes a novel approach for using vector roads to aid in the generation of seamline networks for aerial image mosaicking. A representative seamline is extracted as follows. First, the straight skeleton of the overlapping area of adjacent images is extracted. Second, vector roads in the overlapping regions are overlaid with the extracted skeleton to build a weighted graph G (V, E). Dijkstra's algorithm is applied to find the lowest-cost path that connects two intersections of the polygons of two adjacent images. The lowest-cost path is considered as a seamline candidate. Finally, the seamline candidate is refined by considering its surrounding pixels. The refined seamline is employed as the final seamline. The resultant seamlines commonly follow the centerlines of roads as much as possible, and the mosaic image appears more seamless. Moreover, the vector-based approach is typically more efficient than the existing raster-based approaches: the vector-based approach is nearly ten times faster than a raster-based representative. [Termes IGN] valeur aberranteRésumé : (Auteur) Accurate point matching is a critical and challenging process in feature-based image registration. In this paper, a simple and robust feature point matching algorithm, called Restricted Spatial Order Constraints (RSOC), is proposed to remove outliers for registering aerial images with monotonous backgrounds, similar patterns, low overlapping areas, and large affine transformation. In RSOC, both local structure and global information are considered. Based on adjacent spatial order, an affine invariant descriptor is defined, and point matching is formulated as an optimization problem. A graph matching method is used to solve it and yields two matched graphs with a minimum global transformation error. In order to eliminate dubious matches, a filtering strategy is designed. The strategy integrates two-way spatial order constraints and two decision criteria restrictions, i.e., the stability and accuracy of transformation error. Twenty-nine pairs of optical and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) aerial images are utilized to evaluate the performance. Compared with RANdom SAmple Consensus (RANSAC), Graph Transformation Matching (GTM), and Spatial Order Constraints (SOC), RSOC obtained the highest precision and stability. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper an automated methodology is presented (i) to orient a set of close-range images captured with a calibrated camera, and (ii) to extract dense and accurate point clouds starting from the estimated orientation parameters. The whole procedure combines different algorithms and techniques in order to obtain accurate 3D reconstructions in an automatic way. The exterior orientation parameters are estimated using a photogrammetric bundle adjustment with the image correspondences detected using area- and feature-based matching algorithms. Surface measurements are then performed using advanced multi-image matching techniques based on multiple image primitives. To demonstrate the reliability, precision and robustness of the procedure, several tests on different kinds of free-form objects are illustrated and discussed in the paper. Three-dimensional comparisons with range-based data are also carried out. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Very high resolution satellite images provide valuable information to researchers. Among these, urban-area boundaries and building locations play crucial roles. For a human expert, manually extracting this valuable information is tedious. One possible solution to extract this information is using automated techniques. Unfortunately, the solution is not straightforward if standard image processing and pattern recognition techniques are used. Therefore, to detect the urban area and buildings in satellite images, we propose the use of scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) and graph theoretical tools. SIFT keypoints are powerful in detecting objects under various imaging conditions. However, SIFT is not sufficient for detecting urban areas and buildings alone. Therefore, we formalize the problem in terms of graph theory. In forming the graph, we represent each keypoint as a vertex of the graph. The unary and binary relationships between these vertices (such as spatial distance and intensity values) lead to the edges of the graph. Based on this formalism, we extract the urban area using a novel multiple subgraph matching method. Then, we extract separate buildings in the urban area using a novel graph cut method. We form a diverse and representative test set using panchromatic 1-m-resolution Ikonos imagery. By extensive testings, we report very promising results on automatically detecting urban areas and buildings.
