[Termes IGN] infrastructure nationale des données localiséesRésumé : (Auteur) This work proposes an architectural style, a pattern, for spatial data infrastructures (SDIs). This style provides a tool and a shared vocabulary to help system architects to design these infrastructures, and facilitates the exchange of knowledge about them. This style is defined under the component-and-connector architectural viewtype, extending the client-server and shared-data styles. The style has been created after analyzing six of the most relevant SDIs and geo-service architectural proposals. Several architectural elements that these proposals have not properly addressed are considered. Three real projects, with published architectural views or models, have been examined to verify the applicability of the style. The proposed style offers a systematization and refinement of knowledge about SDIs, grounded in well-known concepts in software architecture. [Termes IGN] WebSIGRésumé : (Auteur) The design and development of a highly interactive web-based, GIS-enabled atlas is reported. The atlas is a prototype, designed as a model for implementation of atlases to support government cancer-control activities. This model integrates symbolisation and design principles from print cartography, interaction strategies from exploratory geovisualisation, and web-map/web-feature service advances from GIS. The atlas has been implemented using a client-server architecture. It makes use of two open-source GIS tools, PostGIS (as the system database) and GeoServer (to connect the database to the client mapping application). The client mapping application has been built in Macromedia Flash. The entire client-server architecture is described, then direct primary emphasis is focused on the client mapping application. For this component of the system, the interface design strategy is detailed, the approach taken to implement this strategy in Flash is documented, and the mechanisms developed to build dynamic links from the client to the underlying database through the server are outlined. Features of the atlas are presented through a prototypical use scenario for a target user. [Termes IGN] serveur de données localiséesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper proposes and implements a new methodology for progressive transmission of vector lines and polygons over the Internet. The methodology generates continuous vector data through constrained remove operations of vertices on the server side, maintains consistent topology via a set of constraint rules, and restores original vector data through a reconstruction operator on the client side. The prototype system was implemented to investigate the performance of the methodology in terms of the preservation of consistent topology, transmission time, and qualities of the resulting visualizations. The method is shown to be scalable to large data sets, to produce graphically acceptable results and to maintain topology. [Termes IGN] interface graphiqueRésumé : (auteur) [introduction] Processing geographical data based on modular software components developed by different authors is getting more and more generalised with web services and interoperable java libraries. For instance, MapShaper and WebGen are generalisation Web services meant to be invocated by human users on their data thanks to clients hiding the complexity of network communication. Geotools and Geoxygene are java libraries, that can be downloaded on the Web, and which propose a wide range of functionality related to geographical data processing. These are interoperable because they implement ISO/OGC concepts like FT_Feature or GM_Point, and, in the future, because they will implement the GeoAPI (a set of standard java interface definitions corresponding to these conceptual models). This paper presents a work in progress to provide a lightweight web interface for a user to locate software components that process geographical data, to explore them and eventually test them on his data. The immediate purpose of this application is to facilitate the design of user applications based on such resources. A user may want to select a best implementation of an abstract service before deciding to use a web service or to use the programmatic interface of a java interoperable library that has not yet been deployed as a web service. The expression ‘abstract service’ is used here to refer to ‘an abstract resource that represents a capability of performing tasks that represents a coherent function. [Termes IGN] standard OGCRésumé : (Auteur) Geospatial data is often voluminous - it takes up large amounts of disk space, requires a long time to process, and occupies a long time to transfer accross networks. This is a longstanding problem which is aggraved in some network-based applications because network bandwidth is usually less than the bandwidth inside a computer (bus bandwidth).
