Note de contenu : Introduction

[Vedettes matières IGN] CartologieRésumé : (auteur) Traditional cartography, by its methodological and cultural foundations, allows for the creation of representations shaped by standard metrical and semiological principles. Nevertheless, expressivity is often neglected and can proved to be absent from these visual representations. Alternative portrayal of topology can be provided. Hybrid representations can be also proposed to express individual perception or experience of any space. In that sense, these novel cartographic means usually labelled sensitive maps, emotional maps or cognitive maps, embody distinct points-of-view such as individual perception. Information related to perception and sentiments is inherently ambiguous, imprecise and barely quantifiable because of the nature of human experiences. Indeed, the perception of a person can be influenced by his/her physical capabilities, and his/her senses. It is thus difficult to formalize this kind of information and project it onto a map. In this context, our talk will describe an experiment with students newly arrived in Paris or its region, related to their experience of discovering their living place in a diachronic perspective. Each student is aimed to build sensitive maps representing a targeted geographical space in the way it is perceived. Similar experiments have led to non-conventional mapping productions, but without focusing on the creation process of sensitive maps over time which we intend to study. A wider perspective of this work could be the reuse of that experiment by public policies and associations in the Paris region for urban planning, tourism, reception of foreign students, or for comparing with other cities. The results of the last few years seem to announce a technological revolution that could profoundly change society. We focus our interest on two fundamental cognitive aspects, learning and memory. Associative memories offer the possibility to store information elements and to retrieve them using a sub-part of their content, thus mimicking human memory. Deep Learning allows to transition from an analog perception of the outside world to a sparse and more compact representation. In Chapter 2, we present a neural associative memory model inspired by Willshaw networks, with constrained connectivity. This brings an performance improvement in message retrieval and a more efficient storage of information. In Chapter 3, a convolutional architecture was applied on a task of reading partially displayed words under similar conditions as in a former psychology study on human subjects. This experiment put inevidence the similarities in behavior of the network with the human subjects regarding various properties of the display of words.Chapter 4 introduces a new method for representing categories usingneuron assemblies in deep networks. For problems with a large number of classes, this allows to reduce significantly the dimensions of a network.Chapter 5 describes a method for interfacing deep unsupervised networks with clique-based associative memories. [Termes IGN] temps réelRésumé : (Auteur) Social media are increasingly recognized as a useful data source for understanding social response to hazard events in real time and in post-event analysis. This article establishes social media–enhanced decision support systems (SME-DSS) as a synergistic integration of social media and decision support systems (DSSs) to provide structured access to native, near real-time data from a large and diverse population to assess social response to social, environmental, and technological risk and hazard events. We introduce a prototype SME-DSS entitled socio-environmental data explorer (SEDE) to explore the opportunities and challenges of leveraging social media for decision support. We use a winter storm during 25–28 January 2015 that accumulated record amounts of snow along the East Coast of the United States as a case study to evaluate SEDE in helping assess social response to environmental risk and hazard events as well as evaluate social media as a theoretical component within the social amplification of risk framework (SARF) that serves as a theoretical foundation for SME-DSS.
