[Termes IGN] Wisconsin (Etats-Unis)Résumé : (Auteur) We employed the discrete wavelet transform to reflectance spectra obtained from hyperspectral data to improve estimation of LAi in temperate forests. We estimated LAl for 32 plots across a range afforest types in Wisconsin using hemispherical photography. Plot spectra were extracted from AVIRIS data and transformed into wavelet features using the Haar wavelet. Separately, subsets of spectral bands and the Haar features selected by a genetic algorithm were used as independent variables in linear regressions. Models using wavelet coefficients explained the most variance for both broadleaf plots (R2 = 0.90 for wavelet features versus R2 = 0.80 for spectral bands) and all plots independent afforest type (R2 = 0.79 for wavelet features vs. R2 = 0.58 for spectral bands). The forest-type specific models were better than the models using all plots combined. Overall, wavelet features appear superior to band reflectances alone for estimating temperate forest LAI using hyperspectral data. [Termes IGN] prise en compte du contexteRésumé : (Auteur) Anomaly detection (AD) in remotely sensed hyperspectral images has been proven to be valuable in many applications. In this paper, we propose a scheme for detecting global anomalies in which a likelihood ratio test-based decision rule is applied in conjunction with automated data-driven estimation of the background probability density function (PDF). Specifically, the use of both semiparametric (finite mixtures) and nonparametric (Parzen windows) models is investigated for background PDF estimation. Although such approaches are well known in multivariate data analysis, they have been very seldom applied to estimate the hyperspectral image background PDF, mostly due to the difficulty of reliably learning the model parameters without operator intervention. In this paper, semi and nonparametric estimators have been successfully employed to estimate the image background PDF with the aim of detecting global anomalies in a scene benefiting from the application of ad hoc Bayesian learning strategies. Two real hyperspectral images have been used to experimentally evaluate the ability of the proposed AD scheme resulting from the application of different global background PDF models and learning methods. [Termes IGN] série de TaylorRésumé : (Auteur) Semi-Supervised Learning (SSL) method has recently caught much attention in the fields of machine learning and computer vision owing to its superiority in classifying abundant unlabelled samples using a few labeled samples. The goal of this paper is to provide an experimental efficiency comparison between graph based SSL algorithms and traditional supervised learning algorithms (e.g., support vector machines) for multispectral image classification. This research shows that SSL algorithms generally outperform supervised learning algorithms in both classification accuracy and anti-noise ability. In the experiments carried out on two data sets (hyperspectral image and Landsat image), the mean overall accuracies (OAs) of supervised learning algorithms are 15 percent and 86 percent, while the mean oas of SSL algorithms are 26 percent and 99 percent. To overcome the polynomial complexity of SSL algorithms, we also developed a linear-complexity algorithm by employing multivariate Taylor Series Expansion (TSE) and Woodbury Formula. [Termes IGN] reconstruction d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) There is increasing interest in dimensionality reduction through random projections due in part to the emerging paradigm of compressed sensing. It is anticipated that signal acquisition with random projections will decrease signal-sensing costs significantly; moreover, it has been demonstrated that both supervised and unsupervised statistical learning algorithms work reliably within randomly projected subspaces. Capitalizing on this latter development, several class-dependent strategies are proposed for the reconstruction of hyperspectral imagery from random projections. In this approach, each hyperspectral pixel is first classified into one of several pixel groups using either a conventional supervised classifier or an unsupervised clustering algorithm. After the grouping procedure, a suitable reconstruction method, such as compressive projection principal component analysis, is employed independently within each group. Experimental results confirm that such class-dependent reconstruction, which employs statistics pertinent to each class as opposed to the global statistics estimated over the entire data set, results in more accurate reconstructions of hyperspectral pixels from random projections.
