[Termes IGN] séparateur à vaste margeRésumé : (Auteur) We follow the idea of learning invariant decision functions for remote sensing image classification with Support Vector Machines (SVM). To do so, we generate artificially transformed samples (i.e., virtual samples) from available prior knowledge. Labeled samples closest to the separating hyperplane with maximum margin (i.e., the Support Vectors) are identified by learning an initial SVM model. The Support Vectors are used for generating virtual samples by perturbing the features to which the model should be invariant. Subsequently, the model is relearned using the Support Vectors and the virtual samples to eventually alter the hyperplane with maximum margin and enhance generalization capabilities of decision functions. In contrast to existing approaches, we establish a self-learning procedure to ultimately prune non-informative virtual samples from a possibly arbitrary invariance generation process to allow for robust and sparse model solutions. The self-learning strategy jointly considers a similarity and margin sampling constraint. In addition, we innovatively explore the invariance generation process in the context of an object-based image analysis framework. Image elements (i.e., pixels) are aggregated to image objects (as represented by segments/superpixels) with a segmentation algorithm. From an initial singular segmentation level, invariances are encoded by varying hyperparameters of the segmentation algorithm in terms of scale and shape. Experimental results are obtained from two very high spatial resolution multispectral data sets acquired over the city of Cologne, Germany, and the Hagadera Refugee Camp, Kenya. Comparative model accuracy evaluations underline the favorable performance properties of the proposed methods especially in settings with very few labeled samples. [Termes IGN] transformation de coordonnéesRésumé : (auteur) In coordinate transformation, the main purpose is to provide a mathematical relationship between coordinates related to different geodetic reference frames. This gives the geospatial professionals the opportunity to link different datums together. Review of previous studies indicates that empirical and soft computing models have been proposed in recent times for coordinate transformation. The main aim of this study is to present the applicability and performance of Least Squares Support Vector Machine (LS-SVM) which is an extension of the Support Vector Machine (SVM) for coordinate transformation. For comparison purpose, the SVM and the widely used Backpropagation Neural Network (BPNN), Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN), 2D conformal and affine methods were also employed. To assess how well the transformation results fit the observed data, the root mean square of the residual horizontal distances and standard deviation were used. From the results obtained, the LS-SVM and RBFNN had comparable results and were better than the other methods. The overall statistical findings produced by LS-SVM met the accuracy requirement for cadastral surveying applications in Ghana. To this end, the proposed LS-SVM is known to possess promising predictive capabilities and could efficiently be used as a supplementary technique for coordinate transformation. Five different date images were acquired during January 2015–April 2015 at different growth stages from tillering to ripening in Varanasi district, India. The winter wheat crop parameters, i.e. leaf area index, vegetation water content (VWC), fresh biomass (FB), dry biomass (DB) and plant height (PH) were estimated using random forest regression (RFR), support vector regression (SVR), artificial neural network regression (ANNR) and linear regression (LR) algorithms. The Ground Range Detected products of Interferometric Wide (IW) Swath were used at VV polarization. The three different subplots of 1 m2 area were taken for the measurement of crop parameters at every growth stage. In total, 73 samples were taken as the training data-sets and 39 samples were taken as testing data-sets. The highest sensitivity (adj. R2 = 0.95579) of backscattering with VWC was found using RFR algorithm, whereas the lowest sensitivity (adj. R2 = 0.66201) was found for the PH using LR algorithm. Overall results indicate more accurate estimation of winter wheat parameters by the RFR algorithm followed by SVR, ANNR and LR algorithms. [Termes IGN] séparateur à vaste margeRésumé : (auteur) Designing a kernel function with good discriminating ability and a highly application-adaptive kernelized classifier is the key of many kernel methods. However, not many kernel functions combining directly the bitemporal images' information are designed specifically for change detection tasks. In addition, extreme learning machine (ELM) has not found wide applications in change detection tasks, even though it is a potential kernel method possessing outstanding approximation and generalization capabilities as well as great classification accuracy and efficiency. Therefore, an approach relying on a difference correlation kernel (DCK) and a multistage ELM (MS-ELM) is proposed in this paper for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image change detection. First, a DCK function is constructed specifically for change detection by measuring the “distance” between any two pixels. The DCK function depicts the cross-time similarities between couples of bitemporal image patches at any cyclic shifts with a kernel correlation operation and the high-order spatial distances between two differently located pixels with an algebraic subtraction. The DCK function possesses strong noise immunity and good identification of changed areas simultaneously. Second, an MS-ELM classifier is constructed for obtaining the change detection result. In MS-ELM, the hidden nodes and weights between the hidden and output layers are updated stage by stage by improving the kernel functions that compose them. Each stage of the MS-ELM is a standard kernel-ELM, and the DCK function is utilized in the first stage. The regenerative kernel functions incorporate the output spatial-neighborhood information of the previous stage for enhancing remarkably the MS-ELM's discriminating ability and noise resistance. The converged result at the last stage of MS-ELM is the final change detection result. Experiments on real SAR image change detection demonstrate the effectiveness of the DCK function and the MS-ELM algorithm, particularly its good identification of changed areas and strong robustness against noise in SAR images.
