[Termes IGN] service fondé sur la positionRésumé : (auteur) Our lives are affected by myriads of events happening daily all over the world. For efficient planning and management of complex systems composed of various components, understanding relationships between an event and the reactive behaviour of involved components is vital. Analysing these complex relations demands a spatiotemporal event-based model, in which the event plays a central role. In this article we develop a framework which provides the possibility of mapping and storing event-related information on the OpenStreetMap (OSM) platform by volunteers. The study is divided into two different phases: first, mapping the event elements by adding new attributes adequately designed to encode spatiotemporal and semantic event information; and, second, representing the event-related information on a map by developing a Web application, offering a volunteered location-based service. To facilitate the event-mapping procedure, a Java OpenStreetMap (JOSM) plug-in was developed for volunteers. The plug-in was developed based on the notion of an event to adequately store and manipulate the semantic information of events in the OSM structure. The tool was used by more than 100 volunteers in Munich for the years 2012 to 2014. In addition to manual collection of event-related information by volunteers, a crawling framework was also developed to automatically collect freely available event information from various Web pages on the Internet. The framework extracts the same event elements as the plug-in. But the framework crawls each Web page according to some pre-defined rules and follows a post-processing step, if necessary. The manually collected events along with the crawled event information are visualized in a Web application. The study revealed that adding the possibility of event-oriented mapping to OSM empowers volunteers to collect a higher level of information (event information) for city maps. This information can furthermore be used for strategy development and service planning by decision-makers. In this light, we study a novel problem of planning unobstructed paths in traffic-aware spatial networks (TAUP queries) to avoid potential traffic congestions. We propose two probabilistic TAUP queries: (1) a time-threshold query like “what is the path from the check-in desk to the flight SK 1217 with the minimum congestion probability to take at most 45 minutes?”, and (2) a probability-threshold query like “what is the fastest path from the check-in desk to the flight SK 1217 whose congestion probability is less than 20 %?”. These queries are mainly motivated by indoor space applications, but are also applicable in outdoor spaces. We believe that these queries are useful in some popular applications, such as planning unobstructed paths for VIP bags in airports and planning convenient routes for travelers. The TAUP queries are challenged by two difficulties: (1) how to model the traffic awareness in spatial networks practically, and (2) how to compute the TAUP queries efficiently under different query settings. To overcome these challenges, we construct a traffic-aware spatial network G t a (V, E) by analyzing uncertain trajectories of moving objects. Based on G t a (V, E), two efficient algorithms are developed to compute the TAUP queries. The performances of TAUP queries are verified by extensive experiments on real and synthetic spatial data. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (auteur) Bats are useful animais in our ecosystem and are protected by certain EU directives. Man-made objects such as roads, railways and wind turbines may obstruct their natural flight paths. It is possible to analyse these flight paths by recording the ultrasounds emitted by bats. Using multiple microphones, the time difference in signal arrivai can be used to reconstruct a bat's 3D position. As this is a common positioning technique in the geospatial world, GIS tools have been used to implement bat tracking in a project in France. [Termes IGN] extension temporelleMots-clés libres : T-pattern analysis STempo Résumé : (Auteur) Pattern analysis techniques currently common within geography tend to focus either on characterizing patterns of spatial and/or temporal recurrence of a single event type (e.g., incidence of flu cases) or on comparing sequences of a limited number of event types where relationships between events are already represented in the data (e.g., movement patterns). The availability of large amounts of multivariate spatiotemporal data, however, requires new methods for pattern analysis. Here, we present a technique for finding associations among many different event types where the associations among these varying event types are not explicitly represented in the data or known in advance. This pattern discovery method, known as T-pattern analysis, was first developed within the field of psychology for the purpose of finding patterns in personal interactions. We have adapted and extended the T-pattern method to take the unique characteristics of geographic data into account and implemented it within a geovisualization toolkit for an integrated computational-geovisual environment we call STempo. To demonstrate how T-pattern analysis can be employed in geographic research for discovering patterns in complex spatiotemporal data, we describe a case study featuring events from news reports about Yemen during the Arab Spring of 2011–2012. Using supplementary data from the Global Database of Events, Language, and Tone, we briefly summarize and reference a separate validation study, then evaluate the scalability of the T-pattern approach. We conclude with ideas for further extensions of the T-pattern technique to increase its utility for spatiotemporal analysis.
