[Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) Analysis of movement is currently a hot research topic in visual analytics. A wide variety of methods and tools for analysis of movement data has been developed in recent years. They allow analysts to look at the data from different perspectives and fulfil diverse analytical tasks. Visual displays and interactive techniques are often combined with computational processing, which, in particular, enables analysis of a larger number of data than would be possible with purely visual methods. Visual analytics leverages methods and tools developed in other areas related to data analytics, particularly statistics, machine learning and geographic information science. We present an illustrated structured survey of the state of the art in visual analytics concerning the analysis of movement data. Besides reviewing the existing works, we demonstrate, using examples, how different visual analytics techniques can support our understanding of various aspects of movement. [Termes IGN] visualisation de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Understanding the complex nature of movement data and integrating it sufficiently into visual analytics tools is largely missing in GIScience. A user experiment assesses quantitatively and qualitatively which path elements contribute to map readers’ ability to identify a moving object and its behaviour in visual displays of movement. Context was added as a control variable by showing the movement path either on a homogenous background or embedded in a terrain map. The analysis shows that participants mainly used the character of the line and the shape of the represented behaviour to interpret the visualisation. Independently of context information, participants use the same path elements. With this approach, we hope to provide a first stepping-stone to identify the key elements that contribute to map readers’ ability to understand and analyse movement behaviour with visual analytics tools. [Termes IGN] objet mobileRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we propose and investigate a model based on asymptotic methods, designed to compute the radar cross section (RCS) of complex targets. A combined method of physical optics, geometrical optics, and the equivalent current method is applied to establish an effective backscattering analysis procedure. The scattering model includes shadowing effects, multiple bounce, and diffraction by edges. This model is used for RCS estimation and to generate inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) raw data for imaging applications. We review the theoretical aspects and describe the proposed model and experimental setup in detail. Numerical results are provided and compared with the experimental results obtained in the anechoic chamber of ENSTA Bretagne to validate the approach through the computation of the RCS for canonical objects and a generic boat. Finally, a parallelepiped representation of the RCS is presented to be used for ISAR imagery, and the first results concerning the ISAR imaging of a generic boat are provided. [Termes IGN] véhicule automobileRésumé : (Auteur) Mobility and spatial interaction data have become increasingly available due to the wide adoption of location-aware technologies. Examples of mobility data include human daily activities, vehicle trajectories, and animal movements, among others. In this article, we focus on a special type of mobility data, i.e. origin-destination pairs, and present a new approach to the discovery and understanding of spatio-temporal patterns in the movements. Specifically, to extract information from complex connections among a large number of point locations, the approach involves two steps: (1) spatial clustering of massive GPS points to recognize potentially meaningful places; and (2) extraction and mapping of the flow measures of clusters to understand the spatial distribution and temporal trends of movements. We present a case study with a large dataset of taxi trajectories in Shenzhen, China to demonstrate and evaluate the methodology. The contribution of the research is two-fold. First, it presents a new methodology for detecting location patterns and spatial structures embedded in origin-destination movements. Second, the approach is scalable to large data sets and can summarize massive data to facilitate pattern extraction and understanding.
